Rep. Charlie Rangel is facing five challengers in Tuesday's Democratic primary.

Rep. Charlie Rangel is facing five challengers in Tuesday's Democratic primary.

New York (CNN) - He's served in Congress for almost 40 years, but Tuesday's primary in New York will be unlike any other for Democratic Congressman Charles Rangel.

The 80-year-old Rangel is fighting five challengers and an ethics trial in the House later this month on 13 alleged violations.

In years past, his re-election has been a slam dunk. While he is expected to win again, Rangel's taking nothing for granted.

Congressman Rangel, you have served your constituents and the country well over the years, but if the charges against you are true, you need to do the right thing and step aside. The last thing the party needs is a foothold for the GOP, aka the Party of Nope, to have anything to use as a wedge in the upcoming mid-terms or in 2012.

It's bad enough that they'll "make it up as they go," but you are going to provide ammunition to them which they will use exponentially. And, given that they will use this incident to paint the "complexion" of the campaign as an issue, this only drives the point home harder.

I say get rid of this ultra liberal Dem and replace him with someone who will do the job he is elected to do. Rangel is 80 years old for goodness sake! When is enough to him, really enough! Obama said it well," Charlie should now retire in dignity." Rangel should follow Obama's advice and simply fade away, but definitely not in dignity. That word is not in his vocabulary.

Rangel along with Obama, Pelosi, Reid and Emanuel all must go. They are scum.

The guy should be in prison. I don't care what he has done for the country in the past. He sees himself as above the law and that behavior is wrong. He should resign. Harry, Nancy, President Obama, and the rest of the Democrats should call for his and all corrupt politicians resignation. The same thing if they are corrupt Republicans. If they don't I say vote against every one of them. They aren't royalty and they work for the people.

Ole Charlie will play the victim and race card but his voting block is just as dumb as he wants them to be.

Rangel will win again. His supporters are far less interested in his ethics than in his seniority and connections.
