Reid adds controversial immigration measure to defense bill

Harry Reid said he will add the DREAM Act to a defese policy bill next week.
Harry Reid said he will add the DREAM Act to a defese policy bill next week.

Washington (CNN) - Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said Tuesday he will add the DREAM Act, a controversial immigration measure, to a defense policy bill the Senate will take up next week.

The decision means the defense bill, which often passes with bipartisan support, will be home to two major, thorny political issues – the other being the repeal of the military's "don't ask, don't tell" policy.

Reid called the DREAM Act "really important" and said it should be passed because it provides a path to citizenship for young illegal immigrants who go to college or serve in the military. DREAM is an acronym for Development, Relief and Education of Alien Minors Act.

"I know we can't do comprehensive immigration reform," Reid said at a news conference. "But those Republicans we had in the last Congress have left us."

Many Hispanic voters are angry with Democratic leaders for not doing more to pass an immigration overhaul. The decision by Reid to add the DREAM Act now could help soothe that anger.

Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell called Reid's decision "needlessly controversial."
The Senate will need 60 votes to take up the bill next week, and Reid said Tuesday he doesn't know if he has enough votes.

How about (Directly) (Remove) (Every) (Alien) (Mexican)? I could support THAT.

In America, if you work, pay all your own expenses, and somehow fail to chip in enough for taxes they will fine you and even put you in jail. Come here illegally and they cannot wait to support you 100% and excuse your illegal status, in exchange for your future votes.

Why can't they vote on single issues instead of compicating the process and putting it "in your face"? They need to vote on the Defense bill, separate and distinct, and take up the other two issues with sufficient time for debate. You all know damn well that this move by Sen. Reid is purely political and is an attempt to buy votes for the donkeys. More shenanagins from our elected officials. Vote him out, please, Nevadans.

Maybe we can make friends with the Mexican Army, I don't begin to trust any other foreigners massing in our ranks or spreading out looking for intelligence. Maybe you want to limit the language to our allies not just any vagabond that sneaks in. Maybe we allow Mexicans free travel in and out and work with them to man the bottleneck at the bottom of their territory. If I was President. I might make them states. chief

This is why we need a Constitutional amendment requiring amendments to a bill be pertinent to it.

This is pure BS and Reid knows it

What thehell, Reid? What a sneaky snake you are. If Pelosi is the wicked witch of the west you're some sort of warlock. This is the least transparent, least post-partisan government I've ever known in my 52 years of life. You've got a 10% approval rating and this is what you do?

Republicans and principled Democrats need to call Reid's bluff, trying to play games with our country's defense.

Nevada voters: Please rid us of this clown!

Why should we even ALLOW illegals in our military? On our bases? These democrats are absolutely crazy!

Absolutely more of the same from this Democratic Controlled Congress and Senate. Unable to pass on it's own merit, Reid plays his backroom politics and circumvents the treal democratic process.

Enough already! Bring on the new representatives dedicated to doing the will of the people. The will of the people is majority rule. Not the covert, abortive circumvention of real self rule.

Give me a congress and senate who's only concern is the advancement of our civilization, the welfare of the citizendry and promotion of world acceptance.

Harry Reid and cronies will try to ram this legislation the "DREAM Act" through under the guise of a path to citizenship for immigrants serving in the military. Don’t fooled this is a path to gaining votes with the Hispanic community. Executive Order Number 13269, dated July 3, 2002, President Bush provides an easier path to citizenship by waiving resident requirements. Sen. Reid will do ANYTHING to stay in power...lets vote these arrogant cronies out of office...Stand up Nevada, get rid of this destructive element to our country.

What a slimy man, he uses the dreams and aspirations of others to score political points. He is indeed the lowest form of humanity,if Nevada re-elects him they deserve what they get. He knows is wil not be brought to the floor, just playing for the crowd.

    I love that Mr Reid dreams of the elimination of white people;
and am encouraged that other white people, such as John
McCain, Newt Gingrich, etc. also do their best to "solve the problem"
of white superiority by blending it out.

    Genocide is Mr. Reid's objective.
Our minimal intelligence mulatto President will agree with this.

    regards,

Harry Reid has gone nuclear. Pandering to the Mexican-American vote in Nevada may cost him big time with the native born gun owner segmant of the Democratic party. This is particularly so because the Republican ticket is headed by a Latino candidate for goveror who has Rory Reid wipped big time. "Reid said Tuesday he doesn't know if he has enough votes." That makes his leadership position in the next Congress look weak compared to XENOPHOBIC and anti-Indian Senator Chuck Schumer of New York, be it majority or minority leader. Chuck Schumer is the most racist, anti-Asian member of both houses of Congress. The Indian-American community and the Chinese-American community don't like Chuck's racist attitudes.

So what does that say about Democratic immigration favourites.

However, the repubs will just lie to people just like how they say they care about the deficit but want to extend the tax cuts for the ultra rich!
