Sources: Obama to sidestep Senate in appointing Warren

President Obama will name Elizabeth Warren to a special adviser role to help set up a new consumer protection agency.

Washington (CNN) – President Barack Obama plans to name Elizabeth Warren as a special adviser to help set up a new consumer protection agency created under the Wall Street reform bill, according to sources who spoke on condition of not being identified by name.

A Democratic official said Wednesday that Warren's title would be Assistant to the President and Special Advisor to the Secretary of the Treasury on the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

In her role, Warren would report directly to Obama and to Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner while leading the administration's work in starting up the new bureau, the official said.

In addition, a senior administration official said Obama will name Warren to the advisory position this week.

The move would allow Warren to help set up the new consumer protection agency, but bypass a potentially difficult Senate confirmation battle if she were nominated to formally run the agency.

  2. 8 Years of having a drunken driver at the wheel put America in the ditch, why would working Americans return the keys to the crowd drinking at the same bar?

More backroom, covert machinations from the party of hypocrisy. They whined incessantly about Bush's recess nominations, yet here they do the same thing when one of theirs can't pass muster before the whole Senate.

    Have they no shame?

    Excellent.

The person on Main Street has an advocate and protector in Elizabeth Warren.

We can expect the party which protects corporate interests ... as opposed to those of the working American ... to condemn Ms. Warren but too bad.

All the business community says that it wants is PREDICTABILITY so that they can make business plans.

With Ms Warren, they will get it.

Barack Obama will be given a special advisory role to the President of the United States; Elizabeth Warren was CREATED for the HEAD of the NEW Consumer Protection Agency... she is the only person with the experience, brain power, backbone and integrity to assume that position!

Look out Wall Street, Banks, Credit Card Companies, Insurance Companies and all you other agencies that have been stealing from consumers; you are about to meet: TRANSPARENCY, ACCOUNTABILITY and JUSTICE!

    This lady is awesome!

another reason to vote the democrats out in Nov. Obama nor them will listen to the majority of what people want and keep ramming stuff down our throats. I know the majority voted for Obama but if the election were held today after seeing Obama's so call change there would be another change. Change for the good.

Obama said the Senate confirmation process has been bogged down by Republican partisanship.

Translation: He knows that this pick from the far left wouldn't fly. It;s just easier in election season to blame the other party for all of your problems. But then, doesn't that make Obama the partisan one here?!?!

One of the most partisan politicians in the country (Obama) continually complains about partisan politics. 1984 has arrived, up is down, right is left and if you disagree this this guy you are a racist.

Of course he will, he is the mighty Obozo, the most corrupt, inept, incompetent president we have ever had. He was elected by lies and subterfuge and it won't stop until we are rid of this loser and all of the lying, corrupt, incompetent, union toady losers he has floating around him.

Great appointment. Ms. Warren is uniquely qualified.
However, if Obama really believed that consumer protection is
important, (Which of-course it is, specifically in banking, finance,
real-estate, accounting, etc.) he should have made the job a full cabinet job. Secretary of Consumer Protection and Information.
And, having her report to Geithner is a big mistake.
Again and again, Obama tries to do the right thing, but then does it
only by half. He must change that, or he will win slightly less than
    half a precidency next time.
    Again, where is Emanuel? Chicago?

He just keeps pissing people off with his unilateral decisions and the dems can't understand why citizens call him "comrade"! Obama has no respect for the system, displays no civility in the public forum with his outrageous comments so how can one expect the rest to behave differently.
