Dem promotes his opposition to Obama

Democrat Chet Edwards wants to make clear he’s not an ally of Obama.
Democrat Chet Edwards wants to make clear he’s not an ally of Obama.

(CNN) – Two years is a long time in politics.

The man who was on then-candidate Barack Obama's shortlist for a running mate in 2008 is now touting his staunch opposition to the president.

Democratic Rep. Chet Edwards – the longtime congressman who faces an uphill battle for reelection in his conservative-leaning Texas district - launched a new ad Friday that declares, "When President Obama and Nancy Pelosi pressured Chet Edwards, Chet stood up to them and voted no."

The ad – among the toughest this election cycle from a Democrat who is distancing himself from the president – specifically touts Edwards' no votes on health care reform and cap and trade, as well as several other votes the Democratic leadership has opposed.

"Chet votes with the conservative Chamber of Commerce sixty-seven percent of the time," the ad states.

Edwards, who has represented parts of central Texas (including former President George W. Bush's hometown of Crawford) since 1991, is battling Republican businessman Bill Flores to hold onto his seat. Polling is sparse, but some have suggested Edwards is down by more than 10 points.

Flores has repeatedly attempted to link Edwards with Washington Democrats in this cycle of anti-incumbency, launching a recent ad that said, "Chet's silent about voting with Nancy Pelosi 96 percent of the time."

Megan Jacobs, Edwards' communication's director, said the congressman will continue to show his distance from his Democratic colleagues back in Washington.

"We've always talked about how Chet is an independent, and will continue to do so," she told CNN.

It sounds like Mr. Edwards needs to just convert to the GOP and complete the transformation. What do you call a Democrat who votes with Republicans?

Well Chet, looks like you're going home in November. It doesn't matter that you voted against the President. The haters don't care about that – they just care that you have a "D" after your name. That's all they need to know and nothing else matters.

It will be interesting to see what the ignorant opponents of health care reform have to say when millions of Americans who don"t have health insurance begin to benefit from this great law as it takes effect, especially with regard to how it helps children.

Many of those so-called public servants who opposed it were obviously bought off by the health insurance robber baron corporations. What does that make those "people?"

Most of these idiots in this country don't even realize how much the reform will help them. There so blinded by the fact the an African American is in charge....and they can't stomach the fact theatPrez Obama is handsome smart and is a wonderful family man who is trying to look after the interest of the less in society; the middle class.

Go ahead and vote for those in society who look down on the poor. Most of you guys are poor yourself, but becuase you're so filled with so much hate, you guys can't even see the light blub right in front of your face.

I am afraid even moderate democrats are going to feel the wrath of the American people this November. Alot of these democrats did not vote for obama, botox pelosi and prince harry programs was because their vote was not needed and that is the way it will be seen. They would have voted for these expenditures if the vote was needed. The easiest thing to do is get rid of as many democrats as possible. Look out, the Tea Party Training is coming.

Republicans are the crooks. Republicans don't care about children and their future. Republicans made the worst mess so now it's tough for any PResident to fix the problems; it's hard for any President to create jobs again.

When George H. W. Bush senior was President he made a small mess so Bill Clinton was able to fix the mess and end the war.

When George W. Bush jr was President he made the worst mess in history so now it's hard for any President to fix the economy; even Bill Clinton will have a tough time trying to fix the economy again.

Dems ended the Iraq war in August 31 bringing home 90,000 troops which now puts money back to the economy again rebuilding a new foundation for the infrastructures plus some of that money could go into Main St. to create jobs.

Tea-Parties are crazy; all they talk about is government is bad. Tea-Parties don't even talk about what can they do better for the country. Christine O'Donnell does NOT know anything; she's just a Sara Palin Jr. Tea-Parties are cracked; all they know is put up signs against Democrats calling them names. Tea-parties have NO idea on how to fix our economy back.

    Welches,

I hate to say it but the republicans couldn't do anything stop health care, they didn't have the numbers. The obstructions came from within the democatic party.

You know it would have been a great health care reform if they had actually listened to the ideas of the Republicans instead of just passing it so we could find out what was in it....

Come on you Democrat supporters! If you Democrats don't rally up to vote for the Dems to stay in power then we are all giving the keys to the Republicans to take us back to Bush agenda. If you Dems don't rally and fight, then Republicans will win back the power which will endanger your children and the future children, your future grand children.

Republicans endangered children by NOT giving them healthcare when they need it due to parents income. Republicans endangered children by cutting the education budget just to throw that money into war. Republicans endangered children by cutting 90% of the cafeteria meal to where you adults picked up the children from school and had to rush them to McDonalds. A child that can NOT go to school and is homeless; the Republicans stepped back; Democrats are stepping forward to provide every child a better future by investing in higher education for the children.

Republicans are the ones that allowed video game companies to make criminal games like GrandTheft Auto letting children play it.

Democrats plan for children are to provide higher education, more cafeteria meals, better homes, school fieldtrips, afterschool program, and summer programs like sports, swimming, camping trips.
