Des Moines, Iowa (CNN) - Moments after her high-profile speech to the Iowa Republican Party, Sarah Palin addressed Friday's news that Sen. Lisa Murkowski, recently defeated in her GOP primary by Tea Party-backed Joe Miller, will launch a write-in campaign to retain her seat.
“It’s a futile effort on her part, it really is,” she told reporters in Des Moines, in between signing copies of her book for fans. “She certainly has the right to do so, but Joe Miller is the right person to lead the state and this country.”
Palin and several of her advisers backed Miller in the primary.
Tensions have long simmered between the Murkowski family and Palin, who defeated Lisa’s father, Frank, in the 2006 GOP gubernatorial primary.
