(CNN) – Newly-minted Delaware Senate candidate Christine O’Donnell – who already has had to contend with a string of controversial statements she has made in the past – once said she “dabbled into witchcraft.”
The latest eyebrow-raising comment was revealed Friday by liberal comedian and talk show host Bill Maher, who, as host of the now-canceled show “Politically Incorrect,” had O’Donnell on his program several times as a guest.
“I dabbled into witchcraft - I never joined a coven. But I did, I did. ... I dabbled into witchcraft,” O’Donnell said during a 1999 appearance on the show, which ran on ABC. “I hung around people who were doing these things. I'm not making this stuff up. I know what they told me they do.”
She then described one of her first dates – with a witch “on a satanic altar.”
“I didn't know it,” she said. “I mean, there's little blood there and stuff like that. We went to a movie and then had a midnight picnic on a satanic altar.”
Maher showed the clip Friday on his HBO show, “Real Time with Bill Maher,” and pledged to unveil additional clips every week if O’Donnell does not appear on his current show.
A spokesman for the O’Donnell campaign did not respond to CNN’s request for comment.
O’Donnell, the Tea Party-backed candidate who scored a surprise win over establishment pick Rep. Mike Castle on Tuesday, has largely run on a socially conservative platform.

She has alco co-mingled campaign funds for personal rental payments , salary for her mother , [ claimed ] non-payment of salary to her previous campaign staff , and who really knows what else ? Did the Tea Baggers do any vetting of Ms. O'Donnell ? What may be unfortunate for Ms O'Donnell and the Tea Baggers -– Delawarians have seen her senate campaigns before . They have rejected November elections of her -–twice .

It seems to me that Maher's threat fits the legal definition of extortion. In this case, it's the form of extortion known as blackmail. in this case, blackmaiI.
I am not writing this to support of Ms. O'Donnell, who strikes me as an unqualified candidate, but rather in protest of a situation in which the electronic press (radio, TV) have unchecked power. There should be some limits on their behavior, which can amount to coercion, though seldom as starkly as in this threat by Bill Mawr.
It's a peculiar aspect of our Constitution that freedom of speech does not protect those who use speech as a tool with which to conduct or facilitate illegal activity.

I can not believe the public is going to get snookered again this time with Christine O’Donnell after having dealt with unintelligent antics of dear old Sara Palin. If the public is stupid and naive enough about O'Donnell's abilities and vote for her they deserve to get all the extreme right-wing conservative consequences she will bring forth.
