O'Donnell says 'no truth' to allegations about spending

,

(CNN) - Delaware GOP Senate nominee Christine O'Donnell, in comments exclusive to CNN, refused to answer specific questions Monday night about allegations she misused funds from her previous campaign and tried to downplay their significance.

On the allegations she said there's "no truth to it."

She spoke to CNN after a candidates' forum.

"Why are you listening to a liberal organization in the first place?" she asked.

She was referring to Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, a nonpartisan campaign watchdog group that filed a complaint Monday against the O'Donnell campaign.

Seeking to change the subject, she said "the momentum surrounding this campaign is obvious."

"I am positive we have been ethical," she said before walking off. "I personally have not misused campaign funds."

The campaign has hired a lawyer - an expert in campaign finance - to answer those charges "if it goes anywhere," O'Donnell said.

On the allegation that she used about $20,000 in funds for non-campaign purposes she said, "No truth to it....no truth to it."

Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington filed complaints with the Delaware U.S. Attorney's Office and the Federal Election Commission against O'Donnell, charging that more than $20,000 of O'Donnell's spending in 2009 and 2010 was illegal because O'Donnell was no longer a candidate.

CREW is not non-partisan. They are a liberal organization.

"Why are you listening to a liberal organization in the first place?" she asked. This group has also taken Democrats to task, and anyway, why not?

CREW, citizens for responsibility and ethics in washington is hardly
"nonpartisan" as your article states........by far, most of their complaints are directed at rebublicans or conservatives.....crew's director, melanie sloan, has worked almost exclusively with democrats in government, and makes appearances with olbermann and maddow on msnbc........CREW, nonprofit but definitely NOT nonpartisan....have a nice day

A typical worthless right wingnut response is to blame the liberals. Wrongdoing is wrongdoing, and if she does not know the difference, she has no business in any elected position. Do not pass go, Christine, go directly to jail.

But the peak of hypocrisy is Sen. Corker from Tennessee at the GM plant lying about how he supported President Obama helping the auto workers, when, in truth, Tommy battled the UAW for wage reductions so they would be more competitive with the auto workers in China, Japan and non union workers in the deep south. He also voted to let GM fail along with a million auto related jobs. In his defense, he is only worth $120 million, and that is not worth as much as it was before Bush became president.

This took me 3 min to google. Great research CNN on your "non-partison" tag for the Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW).

Donors to CREW include such liberal groups as George Soros' Open Society Institute, Democracy Alliance, Service Employees International Union, the Arca Foundation, and the Gill Foundation.

Melanie Sloan serves as CREW's Executive Director. Prior to starting CREW in 2003, she served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the District of Columbia, after having worked for Congressional Democrats John Conyers, Charles Schumer, and Joseph Biden. As a lawyer she represents Valerie Plame in her lawsuit against former Bush administration official for their alleged role in the public disclosure of her classified CIA status.

Corporate media is like a game of Pong! How many millions of dollars were really misused in the last Presidential campaign by both the establishment parties on the left and right? The truth is that the Democrats and Republicans are scared of the Constutional movement because they know they are in violation of the law. Starting wars without Congresses approval, bailing out the bankers who caused the recession, changing bills at the last moment before a vote, and passing bills that are 2000 pages without reading them. Any candidate that goes against the establishment will suffer the same consequences as O'donnel.

When is O'Donnell going to answer the charges that she is a woefully incompetent and unprepared candidate with no serious policy ideas who instead wants to duck the media and avoid answering questions about how out of touch she is with everyday Americans?

She's got ethics allegations and she hasn't even been elected. She has way too much baggage with her. Plus the whole witchcraft thing should disqualify her.

Every minute of every day since O'Donnell won the GOP nomination, we are bombarded with news of her, either on TV, internet or newspaper. Stop already. Do we even know who she is running against. The poor guy is never even mentioned.

So all the right-wing voters are going to vote for her. Everyone knows this. They would vote for anyone as long as they espouse their beliefs. Please CNN at least show some intelligence and stop with the free publicity for O'Donnell. Her and Palin get enough of it everywhere else.

Ah the Republican definition of "Ethical"......I can do anything I want, write checks from campaign funds for my rent, a dinner etc and you have no right to question me.....How do you write checks for the Campaign in a year (2009) you weren't running for anything?
How do you survive for 3 years with no job and taxable income of $5800? She has a very strange definition of Ethical....Kinda like Newt!!

  11. Delaware Beware

The Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington is not a "liberal" group, regardless of Christine O'Donnell efforts to label them as such. For the record, they have also called for the resignation of Charlie Rangel, a liberal Democrat. Now that O'Donnell has gone on record as saying there's "no truth" to the allegations about the abuse of campaign funds, the American people will follow this story carefully and let the facts speak for themselves. Thank God for the objective mainstream news media for bringing these facts to light. Like most people in Delaware, I'm a lot less concerned about the fact that O'Donnell may have dabbled in witchcraft as a young adult than I am about her voodoo campaign finances practices. Hopefully her candidacy will cause moderates and independents everywhere to scrutinize the campaigns of all of the Tea Party favorites, and think about the implications of electing them before they cast their ballots in November.

Poor mini-me. I guess she is "refudiating" the "unfactual" information from a NONPARTISAN watchdrop group.
NONPARTISAN = not liberal nor conservative.
This from a woman who has lied about so many other things or just plain pretends that she doesn't owe money.
Yep, the teabaggers other nightmare. She can quit right now and probably make money like the idol speaking to the morons who think she was worth a vote.

The loony left and their lap-dogs; the Mainstream Media, will try to destroy her. We saw the same with Sarah Palin.

I have have hard time believing this woman for some reason. Is it that a former campaign staffer said many things like this? Is it because she took so long to finish the degree and paying for it? There were questionable payments that were pointed out, and she won't even acknowledge a possibility of any mistakes shows that she is dealing with realitiy.

The lady has all the requirements of a politician....she lies and sees everything that she does as being legal. Perhaps she needs to roll the bones again and butcher another chicken!

She must have gotten the legal clean hands "sidestep" from her attorneys - "I personally have not misused campaign funds." Maybe she didn't actually write the rent checks, or debit the travel expenses when there was no campaign, be she directed someone to - she's just more of the same, but more dangersous because she so righteous about her lying (let alone the fact she is not qualified to run her own affairs but wants to run ours).

Lift up her pointy tin foil witches hat and you'll find a bag of campaign funds.

If this woman doesn't awaken rank and file Americans to the reckless abandon that the Tea Party engages in, then nothing will.

Do you trust the Tea Party to run the Country when they choose this kind of CRAZY to run for office???
