O'Donnell says 'no truth' to allegations about spending

,

(CNN) - Delaware GOP Senate nominee Christine O'Donnell, in comments exclusive to CNN, refused to answer specific questions Monday night about allegations she misused funds from her previous campaign and tried to downplay their significance.

On the allegations she said there's "no truth to it."

She spoke to CNN after a candidates' forum.

"Why are you listening to a liberal organization in the first place?" she asked.

She was referring to Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, a nonpartisan campaign watchdog group that filed a complaint Monday against the O'Donnell campaign.

Seeking to change the subject, she said "the momentum surrounding this campaign is obvious."

"I am positive we have been ethical," she said before walking off. "I personally have not misused campaign funds."

The campaign has hired a lawyer - an expert in campaign finance - to answer those charges "if it goes anywhere," O'Donnell said.

On the allegation that she used about $20,000 in funds for non-campaign purposes she said, "No truth to it....no truth to it."

Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington filed complaints with the Delaware U.S. Attorney's Office and the Federal Election Commission against O'Donnell, charging that more than $20,000 of O'Donnell's spending in 2009 and 2010 was illegal because O'Donnell was no longer a candidate.

If there is no truth in this, why don't you just answer the questions? You can run but you can't hide. You and the right wing always use the excuse that the liberal media is out to get you, prove them wrong by answering the questions.

Strange...I didn't hear this type of public statements about Rangel and Waters and others the Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington claim they investigated. In my opnion, they are obviously partisan. in their approach. Their representative stated the O'Donnel was guilty...If they weren't being partisan she would have said..a complaint has been filed and it is being investigated.

Chrissie...just answer the questions or this will dog you for years.

Ok people of Delaware. This woman isn't up for election to some town council, but to the US SENATE! You can cry all you want about wanting to give the government back to the people, but, really, is this who you want to represent you...in the US SENATE!?

Now, now, as we all know, O'Donnell is a protege of Sarah Palin. The rules are never answer questions coherently and dodge all the questions you possibly can with utter stupidity.

Hello, Delaware - this is what you voted for? Did IQs drop sharply in that state?

These accusations come from her own campaign people. The BS Palin pulled on her problems won't work with this nut job.

Sorry, O'Donnell. You have to prove it.

I'm getting really tired of empty sloganeers being nominated in Republican primaries. Is this the best the Republicans can do?

I find it hard to believe anyone in politics would make a mistake like this. They all know how closely they are being watched by the opposition. You would have to be either incredibly stupid or incredibly arrogant. Then again....I don't see the CREW making allegations they can't prove in court. Something smells like tuna here.

"O'Donnell says 'no truth' to allegations about spending' -– From stories I read she was making $5,800 per year. She was near foreclosure, had an IRS lien and was behind on student loan payments. If all these issues were resolved and where did the money come from? Palin's pocket, a sugar daddy or campaign funds

The Tea Party doesn't need the truth...that's why there are birthers. By the way, has Christine provided America with her original birth certificate for review? Why not, what is she afraid of?

If a democrat said or did anything that this lady did they would be burned at the stake immediately by the republican party establishment. What worries me is that the tea party establishment is willing to overlook obvious violations of federal law in this candidate. What else are they willing to overlook to get their candidates elected? The tea party leaders spend a lot of their time trying to convince the general public that they are not right wing, racist, off the wall thugs and then they nominate this person. I am personally worried about their candidates lack of candor with the media. When Fox News finds you a bit of a problem you know you are in trouble as a republican.

Who really cares how campaign funds are used? These are not government dollars, if the candidate and his or her supporters don't mind then so be it.

If it is found she indeed misused funds, then she cannot say she is a "Tea Partier;" she is just practicing normal politics. The Tea Partiers claim to be without sin.

There is no excuse if Ms. O'Donnell misused campaign funds, but it is interesting that the media is on a witch hunt (no pun intended) while our "esteemed" Congress-people in DC (eg, Maxine Waters and Charlie Rangel) get a free pass despite very serious allegations against them. In the end, all of this attention may benefit Ms. O'Donnell as those hard-working people of Delaware (and of states in similar situations) decide to use their vote to voice their discontent with DC and the elitists who direct the Tea Party bashing in the media.
