Liz Cheney: President 'unwilling' to keep nation safe

Washington (CNN) - Liz Cheney blasted President Barack Obama in a statement Wednesday, saying he seems "unwilling to do what it takes" to protect the country from a terrorist attack.

Cheney released the statement following a report in the Washington Post that quotes journalist Bob Woodward's new book detailing the Obama administration's deliberations over U.S. strategy in Afghanistan.

According to an excerpt, Obama sat down with Woodward last July to discuss the White House's struggle with the threat of terrorist attacks on U.S. soil.

"We can absorb a terrorist attack. We'll do everything we can to prevent it, but even a 9/11, even the biggest attack ever . . . we absorbed it and we are stronger," Obama reportedly said in the interview.

In response, Cheney, the chairman of "Keep America Safe," said that Obama's "comment suggests an alarming fatalism on the part of President Obama and his administration."

"Once again the President seems either unwilling or unable to do what it takes to keep this nation safe. The President owes the American people an explanation," Cheney said.

The only way to keep America safe is to be afraid and surrender your free will to Dick Cheney.

Ah, Liz Cheney, another purveyor of fear. Why do people think the huge Homeland Security Department, the FBI, and the CIIA are not doing everything possible to "keep America safe." Exactly what would Lizzy have the President do? Run around with a six-shooter and help old ladies cross the street. She is a hysteria seller, and we should buy none of it. Let us not fear.

Liz Cheney thinks President Obama is not doing a good job on something? Wow, next thing you are going to tell me that water is wet!

Liz, go climb back under the rock your dad hid under during his VP years. Let me guess, you helped write that GOP recycled 2010 version of the Contract With America didn't you? Not a lot of new thinking there, must have been you.

Lynne Cheney wouldn't think America was safe, unless it was locked-up in the vault in her basement,
with no access to the outside world.
Mrs. Cheney is an alarmist, with 1950s values which, if fully exercised, wouldn't let her speak her mind.
And, as we all know, prudence begins at home.

Gee what a jerk. Her father did not keep America safe. The worst act of terrorism that killed the largest number of Americans ever so far happened when he was vice president. What right does this POS have to say any thing about a president keeping America safe when HER OWN DARN FATHER DIDN'T...SHE IS FULL OF MOST BULL BUT CONSIDER THE FACT, SHE HAS THE DICK FOR HER FATHER.

Sorry Liz, but Obama is against torture, so you and your dad will have to get your kicks elsewhere.

It is inherent to the very nature of terrorism that you can't stop every single deranged lunatic from blowing things up. That is why the very idea of a "War On Terror" was misguided and counter-productive from the start.

If the only definition of victory in the "War On Terror" is that nobody ever does anything to make people scared again, then by definition it is a losing battle.

The only reasonable response is President Obama's attitude as portrayed in this story. By all means, do everything you can to make America safe and prevent future attacks, but don't waterboard people and invade countries that pose no threat to us in some Quixotic quest to make America perfectly safe forever. That is truly an impossible dream.

Liz Cheney? Liz Cheney? 9/11 happened on a Cheney's watch despite the fact that the NSA were following the action.

Who even listens to Liz Cheney. It's just more nonsense from another Republican teabagger to defend the mess that Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld left the country. Piece by piece, the President is repairing the damage. If he wasn't doing such a good job, they wouldn't need to lie and trivialize in such a blatant way. She has no credibility.

Read what President Obama said. IF YOUR DADDY HAD HALF A BRAIN we would not have gone into Iraq and would have gone into Afghanistan. But no, the little yellow striped coward had to go play big boy and leave us with a 3 trillion deficit with his chimp of a president. You're a c$%.

Au Contrer, Liz. The USA was attacked 9 mos after Bush and your daddy took over the Executive Branch of the Government. Obama has been in office over 20 mos, and we have NOT been attacked. The USA is safer with Obama/Biden than it was with Bush/Cheney. "Your entitled to your own opinion, but not your own facts" – Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan.

Liz, you're like your father. Talking about something you know nothing about! Where did you make up this? From O'Donnell's tea leaves? Republican fools who got us into this mess in the first place!

" the President seems either unwilling or unable to do what it takes to keep this nation safe" Liz must be confused. Bush hasn't been President for over a year. I mean seriously think about it... under Bush, intelligence of an imminent attach was ignored and they killed nearly 3,000 American's. Under Obama, the terrorists were caught and arrested before they attacked and killed.

She's right! Obama needs to follow the republican example! After all, with their oversight and policies, they never suffered from a major terrorist attack. Oh wait.....

Ms. Cheney, I'm absolutely astounded. Your father and his president had the watch when the worst terrorist attack in the history was perpetrated on the American people. It happened, in part, because they did not heed the the warnings of the US Intelligence community. Let me also remind you that your father is personally responsible for the largest erosion of American freedoms since the McCarthy era. You should be ashamed of your dad, and his service as vice president. As such, perhaps you need to tone down your rhetoric about the Obama administration. After all, he is charged with cleaning up the Bush-Cheney mess in the middle east, on wall street, and in the financial sector. Wake up, and be quiet.

I don't know what Ms. Cheney wanted Obama to say. "No, we won't survive another attack"? Her criticism is a bit of a stretch.
