Senate Democrats' target: Offshore jobs

Washington (CNNMoney.com) - Senate Democrats plan to propose a new legislation this week aimed at cracking down on companies that move jobs offshore, congressional sources tell CNN.

Senate Democrats plan to force a vote on legislation next week that would create a payroll tax break for companies that hire U.S. workers in place of foreign workers. The bill would also raise taxes for companies that move jobs and plants overseas.

Details are scarce on the specifics of the tax breaks and penalties. But Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., set the procedure rolling Tuesday evening, in a move that could force a vote on the issue next week, according to congressional records.

It would be nice if there were a way to keep employers of thinking of the short term gain but more about the long term health of the American economy and worker.

Well, this SHOULD be a policy position that the Teatards and GOP should be in full agreement with. What kind of complete and utter ideological tripe will they fabricate in order to oppose it?

  3. Republicans is smart in the head area

It's about time. IN all seriousness, this should have been broached a long time ago. Can't wait for Carly Fiorina's response to this considering she outsourced 35000 HP jobs and is now running for Senate in Cali.

You mean the message FINALLY got through? The Dems are really dense, or they would have heard it many months ago.

Has it occurred to anyone WHY jobs are sent overseas? Squeezing a water balloon from one end will tell you why. When you make it too difficult for something to reside in its existing space (via excessive taxation, meddlesome government regulations and belligerant unions), it will naturally flow out to other spaces. Democrats, unions and government, you have no one to blame for the international migration of jobs OTHER THAN yourselves.
