CNN Poll: Obama at all time low

(CNN) – President Barack Obama is contending with the lowest approval rating of his 20-month presidency, a new CNN/Opinion Research Corporation poll finds.

The president's approval rating now stands at 42 percent – an all time low in CNN polling and 8 points lower than where Obama was only three weeks ago. Moreover, 56 percent of all Americans think the president has fallen short of their expectations. (More poll results)

The president's sagging poll numbers couldn't come at a worse time for congressional Democrats, themselves facing a nine-point deficit in the so-called "generic ballot" question heading into the midterm elections. In fact, the president's approval rating is the same as that of President Clinton's in 1994 – the midterm election year that saw Republicans wrest control of both the House and Senate.

In even worse news for congressional Democrats, likely voters say they are considerably more likely to vote for a candidate the president opposes than one he supports. On the other hand, 50 percent of voters said they would be more likely to vote for a Tea Party-backed candidate while a third of Americans said Tea Party support would dissuade their vote for a candidate.

Still, the president can take some solace in the fact several past presidents have been beset by slumping numbers at the 2-year mark: In addition to Clinton, both Reagan and Jimmy Carter found their support at 42 percent at this point in their first term. Of course, Clinton and Reagan went on to big reelection wins only two years later.

OBAMA YOU CAN'T STAND THE TRUTH!!!, wake up and the others who don't even bother to use tools like 'Google' to check if what they repeat ad nauseam is true...
    Get over it.
We, rational human beings, do some research, and we believe that the world is not divided in 'us' (always right no matter how wrong we are) and 'them' (pitiful almost-human-beings who does not deserve any right, especially the one guaranteed by the 1st Ammendment, since they refuse to 'see the light').
Sorry, to divide the world (or the country for that matter) in 'us' and 'them' is not only anti-patriotic, it's a dumb thing and it's the first step of all mass brainwash techniques.
It may have worked with you, won't gonna work with us. That does not means that what you stand for (Conservative principles) is wrong, far from it, it's just the way you decided to stand for it that it's wrong. Change your ways, not your principles, and we will be able to work together on the issues that are (now) dividing this country.

Liberals like Obama, and will always like Obama, because he puts money in their pockets. He also wants to transform America into a progressive nation, regardless of what the founding fathers would have wanted. He is basically Robin Hood, he forcely takes from the rich and gives it to the poor, not realizing that in America people may be dealt different hands but their choices are what makes or breaks their future. If you don't believe in that, then you aren't a true American, you're just simply a socialist living in America while trying to force "progress" on the rest of the hard working Americans with low pay, like me. I for one think that ONLY the 42% Democrats who still approve of Obama should be taxed more to pay for free health care for people without jobs. If they want an extra perk then they should be the only ones to pay for it, and if they can't pay for it, they shouldn't get it. You get what you pay for in life, always. I can't just go into a store and take food if I can't pay for it can I? Well why not, its my right to eat isn't it? I can't walk into a house and start living there if I don't own it can I? Well, Democrats thought it was everyone's "right" to own a home in America and forced banks to sell homes to people that they could not afford. Now look where that got us. And FYI liberals, Democrats had control of the House and Senate since 2006, two years before the economic decline. They are the ones who passed all the spending bills. You have only yourselves to blame, and I think you will pay for it come November (Nothing is free in the real world *wink*).

18+ months for Americans to realize that Obama's policies are destructive to US individual liberties and the economy. They are slow learners, but better late than never.

As Abraham Lincoln said: "You can fool all of the people some of the time; some of the people all of the time, but you cannot fool all of the people all of the time." The people now see Obama for what he truly is.

Gee go figure, I am not surprised or amazed and if long timers recall many of us on here that aren't kool-aide drunk new this from the start. Barry will go down as a one term wonder comparable to Jimmy Carter, but out of his darkness a shining light shall beam to set America back to its core beliefs of individual freedom, liberty and prosperity. These three core beliefs go against every grain of the Progressive agenda, destroy individualism, destroy individual liberty and destroy individual prosperity. I haven't been too far off on any of my assessments as of yet, the Iran war is coming whether we want it or not, our Nation will scrape the bottom but it will rise again with the peoples renewed respect for what freedom truly means.

After his comments this am in reference to the speech the Iranian President gave at the UN the numbers will drop lower. As the US President he has made america look weak and inferior to Iran when he labeled Ahmadinejad's speech as "hateful". Hopefully one day he will take his stones out of his wife's purse and/or grow a pair. No wonder we are becoming the laughing stock of the free world.

"George Bush is the reason obamas poll points are sinking! Obama is the best president since FDR!"

Brilliant! Why didn't I think of that? Of course it's George Bush's fault...because everything is his fault! It has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that President Obama has failed to fulfill even the most modest promises of his campaign, has bullied and bribed his way through legislation that is vehemently rejected by a sound majority of Americans, has gone out of his way to villify the U.S. and its allies, and behaves like a petulant child whenever he is remotely criticized. Yep, it's totally Bush's fault

It kind of shows you what can happen when the Republicans make it a party mandate to oppose and obstruct everything Obama wanted to do. From the 24/7 Fox negative politics station to the hidden big money funneled into tea party groups from rich right wingers over time it can do damage. I still believe Obama has America's best interest at heart and if the Republicans would extend a hand they could solve many problems. I contend there are many "quiet" common sense people that will come out to vote for progress and against the Republicans trying to obstruct.

Notice, a liberal will never talk policy, or disparage, race-bait and call names! Not one person with historical sense, or a brain in their head can advocate tripling the dificit in just over a year, and signing up for doubling down on that with more big wasteful govt. Study the stimulus...a huge, collosial waste, with no effect!!

I totally support our president. He is doing a fantastic job, especially given all the obstruction from the Republicans.

Everyone knows that this bad economy is not Obama's fault (except for his wrong Senate votes). However, since Jan 20, 2009, Obama has declared war on freedom and the free market. He is leading us in the wrong direction. This is very similar to Hoover/FDR. Hoover was president for 6 months when the depression hit. His policies were wrong and made things worse. Then FDR came in and took a terrible economic downturn and turned into a 10 year long Great Depression.

Just imagine how pathetic his approval rating would be if the press wasn't covering for him. He'd be below zero.

A lot of rubes are waking up the morning after. Even CNN can't completely hide how bad a job this guy is doing. And he has surrounded himself with a bunch of Ivy-League leftist idiots. Way to go,Barry-O!! w00t!!
