O'Donnell in 1998: 'Evolution is a myth'

(CNN) – Keeping to his promise that he would release a controversial video clip of Delaware GOP Senate candidate Christine O’Donnell every week until she appears on his television show, liberal comedian Bill Maher unveiled another clip of the Tea Party favorite on Friday.

In the latest clip, culled from a 1998 episode of Maher’s old show “Politically Incorrect,” O’Donnell is shown vehemently asserting that “evolution is a myth.”

Video: 'Evolution is a myth,' says O'Donnell in 1998

A stupefied Maher asks, “Have you ever looked at a monkey?” to which O’Donnell replies, “Well then...why aren’t monkeys still evolving into humans?”

Maher aired the clip on his current HBO show, "Real Time with Bill Maher."

The latest clip comes days after video of O’Donnell surfaced showing the candidate in 2003 claiming its possible to stop Americans from having sex.

And last week, Maher released a clip that featured O’Donnell in 1999 saying that in high school she “dabbled into witchcraft.”

O’Donnell’s campaign has dismissed the previous clips as distractions.

According to a CNN/Time/Opinion Research Corporation poll released Wednesday, Democratic Senate nominee Chris Coons holds a 16 percentage point lead over O’Donnell among likely voters, 55 percent to 39 percent. Among the wider pool of registered voters, Coons leads O'Donnell by 25 points.

Not a theory I have ever subscribed to. I think Maher is grasping at straws with this one.

The issue here is simply that she (in SEVERAL interviews) strongly opposes even the possibility that evolution could exist.
She even said that there is more evidence for creationism (when in fact there is none.)

Sorry conservatives....you have a long history of being wrong on science.

This woman is an idiot. What is it about conservatives these days? We've been hoodwinked into believing their lies since Reagan was in office and reverted this country to a fiefdom with the rich holding absolute power and sway over the ever-shrinking middle class. The country ALWAYS suffers under conservatism. Their ideas don't work at all but they STILL attract numbers of absolutely IGNORANT people who will vote for vacuous morons like O'Donnell and that nut in Nevada and the racist in New York.

    This country is so screwed.

The short clip shows a young woman who obviously does not understand what the teachings of evolution are - not unlike many millions of other evangelical Christians. Combining theories about how life began and changed in Earth with concepts of how the universe was formed are common tools to disprove Evolution. The bigger issue here is the apparent threat posed by science to some religious people. It is NOT the responsibility of scientists to make religious people feel safe in the modern world. But it is still the responsibility of scientists, science teachers and our politicians to better explain how science works and how it effects our everyday lives. Otherwise we will continue to have people who don't understand terms like "theory" and they will be at the mercy of others who are happy to use their ignorance as a weapon against all things modern. This will be the undoing of America. Any country or people that fears the future is already doomed.

Jim, so what if Bill Maher is trying to destroy her? Beck and O'Reilly are trying to do the same thing touting the "marxist" stuff from 1985. He's not a marxist, but even if he was, he would still be a better candidate than this idiot O'Donnell.

Over 60% of Americans don't believe in evolution. Consider the human eye. Imagine the human eye evolving over time and finally getting to the state it is now. The eye cannot see by itself. The brain interprets those images. What are the chances of the eye evolving and the brain evolving to work in perfect harmony. Thats a leap of faith.

You cannot have evolution without applying the laws of nature, particularly survival of the fittest. Bill Maher is living proof that we as a species are devolving or at a minimum stagnated in the evolutionary process. With the liberal philosophy of propping up and making excuses for every possibility of failure not only in the free capitalistic markets but in our society as well makes us weaker not only as a Nation but as a thriving society.

I don't think you need to be Einstein in order to be a politician, but it is reasonable to expect that a prospective lawmaker should not be COMPLETELY scientifically illiterate....

Holy genetic mutation, Batman! This O'Donnell is Pathetic Palin Junior. She is completely unqualified for ANY type of service. I would not hire her in any capacity in any company, let alone governance. She represents the dumbing down of America, and I speak as a devout church goer who approaches faith with both a brain and a heart. I don't think there is much difference between O'Donnell in '98 and in '10.

If evolution is so grand, why is it still a theory and not a law?

You guys are ridiculous. Who gives a rats behind what she said when she was 20 years old. Lets find some of Obama's speeches when he was 20. Most of us grow up and are better people after 30. Find something she has said in the last 5 years and then you have my attention.

She should be believe in the theory of devolution. Her campaign is devolving into a circus sideshow. Scary thing is that with such an uninformed public, she might win.

Maher isn't TRYING to "discredit" her. . he doesn't care about her candidacy all that much.

He just wants her on his show.

She did "Politically Incorrect" over 20 times, and they kept inviting her back BECAUSE she's nutty.

So Maher isn't releasing these to try to "discredit" her at all - he's simply trying to blackmail her into being a guest on the current season of "Real Time" - and has clearly stated he'll unveil a new clip every week until she appears.

She makes a good guest, so he wants her on.

Bill Maher will not be happy until everyone in this country does not believe in God. He cant handle someone believing. I dont care if he doesnt believe why does he care if someone does? Or found faith?

So what? When all of this is over, and if she loses, O’Donnell’s not going to be shedding any tears. She’s a wannabe professional celebrity. A wingnut conservative version of Paris Hilton -– a more extreme version of Sarah Palin, if that’s even possible. O’Donnell doesn’t give a crap if she wins the election because she’s still gonna get what she’s been trying for all along; fame and money. She'll be laughing all the way to the bank.

Interestingly, Coons writes that he is a 'bearded communist' in a college article and no CNN articles on the front page. Yet, front-page coverage about Christine's comments a decade ago. Both comments are too old to matter to voters, yet strangely, CNN prefers to attack the Christain belief. Sounds like CNN's new boss should learn that you'd get more ratings and better stories if you stopped the partisanship. Perhaps doing some real journalism and not watching TV shows may help you right the sinking ship.

I am afraid that some of the best clips are yet to come! I think this is so far the slower stuff, wait as we get closer to the elections, and Bill will really turn the heat on because there is no way she will go on the show before the elections, if she wont even face the press do you really think she will walk on a liberal show, no way!!!
Bill, please keep exposing her, she cant say you lied, or that darn liberal meida, this is her, her own words, and her own lack of thoughts!

Two Pea in a pod, it is said; but that was a long time ago. There are many in the same pod today, the begining of which is Sarah Palin. Then came the Nut Rand Paul, followed by the Florida nutcase, but it gets better each day; now we have a full blown imbecile in Delaware. Great!

Everyone needs to remember that's Bill Maher hates religion. While I may not agree with O'Donelle on many issues we should not disqualify any candidate based on their faith.

Several of you claim that evolution is a theory and will NEVER be proven as a fact. Fact is, evolution has been proven as fact, but creationists will not listen or cannot listen. You claim you you refuse to believe in evolution because of your Christian faith– fair enough. But is it your Christian faith that forbids you to listen to the facts supporting global warming, or is it Fox News and hate radio who DO have an agenda and it is keeping as many of you as uninformed as possible and glued to their ratings charts.

The down state lower slower wingnuts who voted for this clown have made the rest of us look like idiots. Let's get this airhead defeated once and for all so she can go play with Palin. They can entertain the dumazz right wingnuts together. Sheesh. She's a loser. Accept it.

Well I'm not a fan of evolution in terms of discounting creation either. But she's still a nutt in my opinion.
