(CNN) - It's the question the political world is asking after Bristol Palin's debut on ABC's "Dancing with the Stars" Monday: Was her famous mother booed by the live studio audience?
That's what appeared to be the case when boos clearly became audible as questioner Brooke Burke was wrapping up an interview with another contestant on the show.
"There's booing in the ballroom - we don't know why," said Burke.
The show then immediately cut to host Tom Bergeron, who was seen sitting next to Palin, about to interview the former Alaska governor.
"I'm here with guest ballroom commentator Sarah Palin, who joins us from Alaska. Sarah, great to have you here," said Bergeron, making no mention of the boos, which had stopped by the time Palin's face was on camera.
Speaking with the Washington Post, the show's executive producer, Conrad Green, said he wasn't sure why the audience was booing. But he doubted it was for Palin, noting that the audience stopped booing when she actually appeared on camera.
"That's my guess, I can't say for sure," he said.

Well, easy to settle this mystery. ASK an audience member who was there. They will tell you that it was SP they were boooing. It was very clear to those of us watching.
So she got booed......big deal.
If the 1/2 governor can't take the heat..........
They were booing because of the scores given to the contestants Brooke was interviewing.
I'm not a Palin fan however I was watching the show and I believe they were booing on the scores that they had just given the performers, I could be wrong.
No big mystery, folks. They were booing Palin. I know it's uncomfortable for you to say, but it doesn't take a genius to figure that one out. There are people who actually don't like her.
They are in New York City, I wouldn't expect polite to happen with a crowd from there!
I watched the show and this story is totally concocted, there was a clearly overwhelming applause and a couple of faint booing kool aid drinkers.
Leave it up to the media to cause a stir!
Seriously????
This is the poorest excuse for a news article I have ever seen! You're trying to make something out of nothing! The boos were because of the low scores the judges just gave the dancers ahead of Bristol and her partner!!!
Boo to CNN's Political Unit!
did they really stop booing or were all the audience mics cut so that people wouldn't hear the booing?
How clever: say there was booing, show Palin, and suggest they were booing Palin. The executive producer said he wasn't sure why they were booing but DOUBTED it was for Palin. Why not ask those who were booing?
May be the audience knew what Bristols Mother is like, nothing but hate and lies and trying to destroy the country. Why couldnt Sarah be there in person.
Palin was booed? Noo
Granny Sarah Grizzly is not very popular on any other show that doesn't have "Fox" in its title...
They were booing because they were not happy with the scores that the previous dancers got...duh.....It happened later in the show too.
The dancing and judging are filmed at separate times. And it is all edited elsewhere. So if anything was left in it was done just for press coverage and ratings. Wise up to how "reality" is made folks. There are no dramatic surprises just a pre-planned fantasy for the public.
Lets call it as we see it if she wants to open her big mouth and talk about other people in a way that is degrading to get money then she deserves to get booed remember its never about facts but about the pay check and the american voter knows that and what I find sad is the only reason she is on that show is because of what she has done not what she has achieved
Sarah handled it w/grace if it was her they were booing. Ignorant people booing her as she's there to support her daughter. Typical left!
I would have booed her as well. Welcome to the real world Shara outside of FOX TV where quite frankly, most people find you apalling.
They were booing the scores for the couple that was being interviewed NOT Palin. I don't like Sarah Palin but come on this is NOT a news worthy blip.
Well I was with you when you said they were booing her. Hopefully one day Americans will see her for what she is only thinking of how to profit from her so called celebrity just like the rest of the reality type no talent losers.
She should go back to “JERRY SPRINGER” where she belongs.
I suspect the audience did not stop booing, the producer merely had the sound feed cut from the audience to save him from being embarassed.
i atched the show and despite the spin the producers want to say, the booing was for palin. people might have been disappointed about the jennifer grey's scores but the booing was for palin. it is a disgrace she would even take away the spotlight from her daughter. but you can't expect much from someone so classless.
Sounds like a smart audience. It's easy to think you are all that when it's just applause from a loving, partisan audience. When you don't get to pick who's there is when the true story is told. Welcome to the rest of the world, Sarah!
Get this quitter out of the media and back in her small town in the cold dark part of the country where she belongs. I am tired of seeing her face and hearing about her. She is a looser and should be put on the back page.
