A weekend away for the first couple

ALT TEXT

11:00 a.m. - – After a bustling week of 'firing up' the Democratic base in backyard chats and rallies, President Obama will spend the weekend off the trail and out of the fray at Camp David with first lady Michelle Obama and daughters Sasha and Malia.

The brief respite comes as the 2010 midterm elections loom ever closer, and both Obama and Vice President Joe Biden are scheduled to hit the campaign trail yet again next week.

Thurday Obama heads to Prince George's County, Maryland for Gov. Martin O'Malley and then to Chicago to attend an event for Senate candidate Alexi Giannoulias. And Biden will more than double that effort, heading to Ohio, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Missouri, and Washington state.

But there were no indications of a stressful week ahead as the casually-dressed first couple departed the White House south lawn in sunny, but brisk 60 degree weather. They celebrate their 18th wedding anniversary this weekend but will also host a retreat for Cabinet members and their families Sunday.

The Obamas deserve a nice weekend together with their daughters. He is the hardest working president we've ever had and he's doing a great job for this country in spite of the whiny negative republicans who stand in his way at every turn. Enjoy yourselves, First Family!

Well, at least it's Camp David and not some plush resort like Martha Vinyard.

Good for them. The President needs a well deserved break. At least he doesn't run to the hills every weekend like the bozo before him did.

Good for the president. Regardless of one's opinion of Obama, every American should agree that the man works hard and that spending the weekend at Camp David is a half-century-old presidential tradition. Some partisan hacks might express "outrage" over the president "taking another vacation," but since they clearly don't believe themselves, and since the president has taken many fewer days off than his predecessor, I'm all for President Obama spending a day or two with his family like a good father.

wtf – he spends the last week jumping fences to talk to small groups in backyards, but can't drop by an wave to the faithful?

no worries. i heard it through the grapevine (my mom and her church group) that he has a strategy that can't fail. just before the election when things really are looking bleak for his party, he is going to release his real long form birth certificate for all to see. doctor signatures, hospital, olden dates, stamps verified, the works. then everybody will see he isn't the liar, fake, and fraud, the haters are calling him. in one brilliant stroke he is going to save the democratic party from a terrible beating at the polls. then he will have the power to pass anything he wants. he can be that hero we are all waiting to see come to life. it will be the beginning of a new era for dem's. chw.

it's really just a simple, elegant and fantastic move. gosh, wish i had thought of it.

If only he would stay at Camp David and as far away from Washington as possible. That way he might stop destroying this country. November cannot come soon enough.

These comments are hillarious! People saying he deserves a break. He deserves a break from what? Golfing?

    nintex,
Hardest working president ever? You know he has golfed more times in a year and a half then Bush did all 8 years right? How many vacations is this for him? His plan to destrot the country he hates the most (USA) is coming along quite nicely.

Also, you can all quit trying to be politically polite just because he is black.

The duties of the president would seem to involve something more than campaigning.

0bama has made 47 trips to colleges to campaign.

Exactly what hard work is 0bama doing?

"(E)very American should agree that the man works hard."

Really? I don't agree, nor "should" I agree. Obama campaigns, that is what he does. He isn't much of a leader and his policies are rooted in redistributive retribution... Meh.

Oh be quiet nintex! Hardest working president? seriously?? I think not, the hardest playing president maybe, with all his vacations he's taken so far. More than any other president, btw. Why am I even replying to your comment anyway, I can't stop a moths urge to fly into fire...

What exactly does he need a break from...Has he actually done anything but talk?? Oh that's right cripple the US economy with 10 Trillion dollars of new debt that my children get to deal with...Enjoy your hard earned time off, sure he'll find more time for golf, while our soldiers die in this war...Thanks Obama

You liberals amaze me. Are you talking about the same man that has been president for the last two years?? Hard working?? Yeah, spending our money, bankrupting this country, and taking the future away from our children. That's what he's been working hard at. Well deserved break? Break from what? All that luxury on AF One, touring around the country on our dime spouting lies and proposals for more disaster for our country?? If that's your definition of working hard, you're right. Happy Anniversary my foot. They should spend their anniversary like my wife and I spent our 15th, away from each other for a year while deployed serving our country. But service is something the Obama's believe other people do. Can't wait for November 2010 and 2012!

Such a busy week – lying to Democrats on the campaign trail, blaming Republicans, George Bush and Fox for everything wrong with his leftist policies. This man's presidency is a complete failure. We have almost 10% unemployment (he said it wouldn't go over 8%). The poor are poorer than ever, at least since the 1960s. There's no end in sight for our plummeting economy – yet people think they're "role models" and they love their date nights. No wonder we're sinking as a nation.
