Biden to Dem audience: You're dull!

(CNN) - Rule 1 of public speaking: Don't insult your audience.

But in the case of Vice President Joe Biden during a speech before donors in Madison, Wisconsin Thursday, that tactic just may have worked.

The vice president was repeatedly attempting to rile the Wisconsin crowd of donors in support of gubernatorial candidate Tom Barrett by listing a litany of Democratic accomplishments and warning Republican policies could put the economy back in a tailspin.

But the sleepy crowd's polite applause was not the reaction the vice president was hoping for.

"You're the dullest audience I've ever spoken to!" Biden declared. "Do you realize how many jobs Wisconsin lost? It's staggering!"

The crowd immediately laughed in response, with some rising to their feet in applause. Needless to say, the crowd appeared to make a more concerted effort to react to the vice president's overtones during the remainder of the speech.

Biden heads to the Seattle for more fundraisers Friday – where, presumably, the audience will be more caffeinated.

I love Joe Biden. Everybody complains politicians aren't honest, but Joe can't help. He says what he means. It's refreshing as a spring rain.

Ya gotta love Biden. He's got the charm and "folksiness" of Bush but with a brain to back him up. He's right. Dems have got to be more fired up to combat the crazed Repubs.

Bush will get into Mensa about the same time Cheney gets the Nobel Peace Prize. And they would have had to "lower the bar" so much for either of them that it would be lying on the ground, in addition to their having to scrap the bottom of the barrel.

CNN news is getting more trashy every day. Why was this even a story? How about tracking some of the candidates on both sides of the aisle who are campaigning every day.

As far as the comments go – well take them with a grain of salt.

The audience is disheartened by the fact that they voted for the Democrat party to fix the economy (even though it was a Democrat controlled Congress that crashed it in the first place) and the Democrat party instead decided to push a social agenda that had NOTHING to do with creating jobs. Stimulus was a JOKE, Health Care Reform was a LIE, and the CARD Act has been a DISASTER from the personal and business credit standpoint.

The audience wasn't bored Mr. VP. No, they were waiting for you to try to explain why they should let you keep Congress, and you didn't give them ANY reason to turn out to vote for you. You can kiss Russ Feingold goodbye as a Senator come January 1, 2011.

Funny....standing up applauding doesn't sound very "sleepy" to me. The media sure is groping for stories to keep the division alive. Just like the report on jobs today. The jobs lost were Government jobs, the private sector jobs actually were stable if not up a bit. The Repubs scream about government being too big, and when those jobs, even the temporary ones like census takers, go away, it gets negative reporting. The media has us all feeding out of their hands. Many of us in the middle are not foolish enough to hand power back to those who's policies got us in this mess. Voting Dem....all the way!

Yeah, a staggering amount of jobs has been lost in Wisconsin. Guess what, there has been a democratic governor for TWO TERMS. Everyone knows it is time for a change in Wisconsin.

Democrats a dull. They refuse to acknowledge that the Obama/Pelosi way of governing is killing the economy and personal freedoms. Encouraging people to go on welfare and forcing citizens into Obamacare by increasing the cost of insurance (via government regulations) is not a way to jumpstart the economy.

Biden is right. People that are still voting for democrats are dull.

Joe Biden is the most respectable, honest politician out there. A real man who is not afraid to tell the truth whether you like it or not. The prior comments to this article are hate filled and unintelligent, which, by the way, is the way the majority of people around the world views Americans in general. Based on these comments I can see why. The Democrats will be getting my vote and the votes of my family members this election so GOOD LUCK hot air republican'ts.

The lead into this article said "Biden Quip Raises Brows". Um, whose brows exactly? If you read the article, it sounds like the audience was pretty positive about the whole thing. Nice try CNN, you are the new FOX.

  23. Dull is Right

I can't wait until the Republicans buy the government back and can bring us to a full halt. That'll show these Democrats a thing or two. I'm all for repealing Health Care and getting back to rationing it based on wealth. And thinking that we should reduce the deficit by putting wealthy Americans back on their old tax rate. It's just unfair!

How in hell can anyone, that is not independently wealthy, buy into the stated goals from the "Republicans of China"? Do we really want to give more breaks to companies that outsource American jobs to other countries? (The jobs they can't outsource will be replaced by cheap foreign labor as soon as we cut the minimum wage)
Are we dumb enough to pay into SSI all our working lives...then ask them to privatize it?
Can we trust big companies to do what is best for the country if we let them buy the laws?
Where do "Slander" laws come into play for the political ads? The news media is only catering to the ones that fill their coffers the fastest.
Why would we buy any insurance policies that will not cover us when we need it?
The bailouts that aren't working?...American cars are outselling foreign cars in our country today!
C'mon people.....THINK! Don't just jump in this or that party....do what's right for our country.

Your target audience will be absolutely giddy over today's fluff piece. I sure hope the spitefully stupid are again just an annoying minority. We can thank your idols – they taught millions more people all about crooked politicians in two years than Bush and Co. could in eight.
