(CNN) – A top House Republican is blasting the White House and congressional Democrats over the September jobs report.
The nation's economy lost 95,000 jobs in September, but the private sector gained 64,000 jobs, according to the Labor Department report released Friday. The unemployment rate stood steady last month at 9.6 percent. The September report is the last to be released before the November 2 midterm elections.
"This report is not only the final affirmation of the failed job-killing policies of Washington Democrats, but it frames the national political debate from now until Election Day," said Rep. Pete Sessions of Texas, the chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee, in a statement put out just minutes after the release of the jobs report.
A few minutes later the top Republican in the Senate weighed in.
"Americans are speaking out, and they want Washington to focus on jobs. But with each passing month, and each new jobs report, it becomes increasingly clear that while massive Washington spending is growing the size of government, it's clearly not growing sustainable private-sector jobs," said Sen. Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, the Senate Minority Leader, in a statement.
Moments later, the Republican National Committee jumped in.
"After nearly two years of weak leadership and broken promises, the American people will go to the polls in less than a month and reject this Administration's economic mismanagement," said RNC Chairman Michael Steele, in a statement.
The president is expected to address the jobs report later Friday morning when he visits a small business in Blandensburg, Maryland.
The most recent CNN/Opinion Research Corporation national poll indicates that the economy remains, by far, the top issue on the minds of Americans. And according to the survey, jobs remains the top economic issue.
Listen to CNN's Candy Crowley and Dick Uliano discuss how high unemployment will affect the midterm elections:
GOP. Stop grandstanding and present your plan to reverse a 30 year trend of losing manufacturing jobs overseas. And while you are at it, explain to the American public why you didi not advance any plans or strategy int last two years, other than voting no. America's voters are not as stupid as you are playing them.
The Repugnant obstructionists are full of whining and complaining, while they are sitting on their hands instead of contributing to the rebuilding of the country. In fact, they are getting just what they hoped and planned for: a very slow recovery. This was their stated plan when Obama took office, and they have stuck with it.
Will things change when and if they get back in power? For sure! Oh, they're not going to help the middle class, but things will get even better for the rich, who already own most everything in the country. They will line their own pockets some more, ship more jobs overseas, and pay for it by going further in debt and chiseling away the benefits we all have paid for, like Social Security and Medicare. By the time the Repugnants finish with the country, there won't be a middle class person left. America will be truly third-world.
1. People are getting what they wanted – a smaller government – so why are they so unhappy?
The U.S. economy unexpectedly shed jobs in September for a fourth straight month as government payrolls fell sharply. There you have it Tea Baggers so why are you still screaming? What DO you expect is going to happen when government gets smaller – higher unemployment STUPID!
Who cares? most of the lost jobs were government jobs anyways. I thought Republicans wanted a smaller government...well there ya go...95,000 lost mostly govt. jobs and to gain 64,000 in private is a good thing. They complain and complain but do nothing in the last two years to help...
I'd just like a concrete answer that if, God forbid, I were unemployed, what would they do to assure that I could get another job. All I hear about is the 'job-killing' policies of the Democrats. Can I please hear about the job-bearing policies of the Republicans?
Honestly, do they expect that this would have turned around so quickly after a major recession that the Republicans caused by lax regulations and enforcement of laws? A problem isn't cured in a day; large problems like this will take time. The good news is that the private sector created jobs which is what the Republicans fail to point out.
GOP slams Democrats? Mergers, aquitisions, shipping jobs oversees, foreign influence on US elections,(Thru US Chamber of Commerce). All these things that have and are having on US job loses are in FACT Republican 'trickle down' economics thru politics in full play. The GOP wants to make US exported products more 'competitive'. Sounds good until one realizes means a reduction or elimination of someones pay, somewhere down the line. In other words, increase that profit margin at all costs. Let's see, to be more competitive with China, that would mean, reduce the workers pay down to say 90 cents an hour? Well, who is stupid enough to work for that amount of money, will that pay the bills? Not everybody can be Doctors, Engineers, lawyers, etc. Those who are not so mentally well endowed and want to work and earn a living, what is the GOP planning to do for them? Let them starve and freeze to death? Most certainly, many of those folks will turn to crime in a feeble attempt to have some sort of living. How many job creating legislations has the GOP blocked over the past 20 months? All to ascertain, that the President will fail. Well, GOP-Tea Party, he DIDN'T fail. He succeeded in spite of your obstructionist efforts.

One of these two statements is a lie...
The GOP is the real enemy here. The biggest part of their plan has already been partially implemented (setting the atmosphere for their retake). If Americans were paying attention, you would know that already. Please wake up America. Anyone who has taken a class in Economics 1 or Economics 2 knows what it takes for our economy to rebound and how long it will take providing the right tools ARE IMPLEMENTED IN TIME. And if the right tools ARE NOT IMPLEMENTED IN TIME, you also know what will happen to an economy that is trying to recover, it won’t! This is the reason the GOP has voted NO TO EVERY BILL that would have served as a RIGHT TOOL. Currently, there are several bills sitting in the senate that would have served as a RIGHT TOOL and would have prevented a lot of jobs from being lost However, the GOP senators have, once again, placed a blocked to prevent the votes that would have passed the final passage of these bills, and from the looks of the economy as we speak, the bill would have also prevented the additional layoffs that have occurred lately which is exactly what the GOP wants. It is not only the responsibility of the Democratic Party to care about the American citizens/taxpayers who are unemployed and can't find work; it is also the responsibility of the GOP Party as well. The GOP should not include politics into serious events that can help those of us who are suffering.
Drawing upon government data, the “Job Tracker” database lists information on more than 400,000 corporations and subsidiaries that have sent jobs overseas, run afoul of health and safety codes or have violated labor law.
Mitch McConnell must not have read the jobs report. Government is not growing. Government jobs declined by over 159,000. Private sector jobs have increased, although slowly, for the last 9 months. I can't believe how intellectually dishonest McConnell has become.
Yes, very convenient for the Repubs who've pushed all the blame for this mess on the Dems. I'm an independent because I use to be a Repub. I find their strategies and allegiance to the wealthy very harmful to the average American. I do see them more and more as intolerant whiners who let the far right take over their agenda. Jobs are down due to Government jobs going away. I thought that was a good thing in the eyes of the Repubs, yet they still whine about that? Go figure. They have no solutions; just hot air and sadly many ill-informed folks are buying it. Vote anything but Republican!
The GOP are a bunch of liars.........They should be happy that government continues to lose jobs, even as the private sector grows........I for one believe a job is a job, as both private and public money is spent in the free market.
The GOP talks of the growth of big government constantly, meanwhile it's shrinking.
But here's the good news. The administration has recently canned pretty much everyone on its team of economic advisors. Certainly they have done Obama no favors in the first 18 months. But certainly he didn't know the difference until the data just kept getting worse and worse.
Democrats need to be slammed for their idiocy related to economic policies. In a time where this country needs leadership, they gave us a political party power grab. Their ideology came before the American people. They forced through bad policies against the wishes of most citizens.
I won't vote for another democrat until Obama, Pelosi and Reid are out of office. Hopefully, Reid should be gone this year.
It looks like Obama's recovery summer is over.
1) Number of people Unemployed in January 2009 was 11.6 million. Now 14.8 million (27.5% increase in number of Unemployed)
2) Unemployment Rate when Obama took office was at 7.6%. Now almost two years later at 9.7%. (27% increase in Unemployment Rate)
3) National Debt when Obama took office $10.6 trillion. Now $13.6 trillion ($3 trillion increase in less than two years for a 28% increase)
4) People on Food Stamps when Obama took office 32.2 million. Now 41.8 million (30% increase in less than two years)
Is this the “Change We Can Believe In”?
If Obama says this is going in the "right direction" then what in the heck does he call going in the "wrong" direction?!?!?
Funny, the jobs report indicated that there were fewer government jobs and more private sector jobs. Isn't this precisely what the Republicans have been calling for? They ought to be celebrating.
You Repugs, the ones that gave jobs overseas for tax breaks,Union busters, every other economic diseaster made by you.You have the stupidity to spew your crap when you have nothing to come to the table with but a lot of hot air.Palin & Steele are nothing more than political wannabes in this show down. You think you can turn this around, the mess you started than ran from, this economic hell hole you dug. Maybe your Rick Scott,Meg Whitmans can buy their seats in this mess, maybe HA,they can fix what their associates continue to derail. Why don't they put their EGOS aside and try working just once for the good of the AMERICAN PEOPLE,instead of the party of No. Repugs you have nada to offer, saying NO for years doesn't qualify you for another term, remember that kids,NO free passes!
no jobs ,,, no money,,,,,,obama hasent got a clue... america is begging for a real leader....
Ask an "all American teabag".They know all the jobs went overseas, but they dont have the guts to tell us.
So, why then, if jobs are the number one concern for the GOP did they vote in September 2010 to block a bill which would help bring outsourced jobs back to America? And, why are the GOP using this particular bill as a aid to get campaign dollars from the American corporations who have outsourced American jobs to foreign countries and who are continuing to do their best the keep these outsourced jobs OUT of America? Remind me again, GOPers, what your party would do to bring jobs back to America should they gain the majority?
