Rove to Obama: How dare you

(CNN) - Karl Rove is lashing out at President Obama and the Democratic National Committee over a new ad that alleges the former top Bush aide is “stealing our Democracy.”

"They are tossing out these baseless charges," Rove said Sunday during an appearance on Fox News.

The comments come the same day the DNC announced it is launching a national television ad targeting Rove and another former Bush aide, Ed Gillespie, over their involvement with an issue advocacy group called Crossroads GPS that by law - because it is established as a non-profit - does not have to reveal its donors.

The organization has spent millions airing anti-Democratic ads in key races and faces charges that they are bending campaign finance laws by structuring itself as a tax-exempt "social welfare" 501(c)(4) organization.

The ad also takes aim at the United States Chamber of Commerce, a pro-business lobby that heavily donates to Republican candidates across the country and which Obama and other Democrats have accused of using money from foreign donors -– a charge the chamber has denied.

“Karl Rove, Ed Gillespie: They're Bush Cronies. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce: They're Shills for Big Business,” the ad’s narrator says. “And they're stealing our democracy. Spending millions from secret donors to elect Republicans to do their bidding in Congress. It appears they're even taking secret foreign money to influence our elections.”

The president leveled a similar charge while on the campaign trail last week in Maryland, saying, “Just this week, we learned that one of the largest groups paying for these ads regularly takes in money from foreign corporations.”

The charges were first made by the liberal blog Think Progress, which reported last week that the Chamber has opened up offices abroad that fundraise for the group. But a spokesman for the group said any fundraising done abroad does not fund political activities.

"Have these people no shame?" Rove said of the attacks leveled at him and the Chamber. "Does the president of the United States have such little regard for the office he holds that he goes out there and makes these kind of baseless charges against his political enemies? This is just beyond the pale. How dare the president do this?"

“This is a desperate and I think disturbing trend by the President of the United States to tar his political adversaries with some kind of enemies list, without being unrestrained by any facts or evidence whatsoever."

Appearing on CBS’s Face the Nation, Gillespie also responded to the charges leveled against him and Rove in the new DNC ad.

“Karl Rove and I don't run American Crossroads. We're fully supportive of it. I've helped to raise money for it. I encouraged it to come together because I think we need something like that on the conservative side because there's so much money on the liberal side. You know, $400 million was spent in 2008 to help elect Barack Obama.”

Gillespie went on to address the allegations against the Chamber of Commerce.

"That was based on a blog posting that the President of the United States repeated that was put on a website that's affiliated with Center for American Progress, a liberal nonprofit advocacy group that does not disclose its donors."

How could a non-profit organization spend millions of dollars in anti-Obama ads???Are you kidding me that these are not the money of special interests that wants to hijack the USA???I wouldn't be surprised if there is drug money involved for campaign ads???People like Karl Rove entertained cheap political ads and gimmicks in Bush-Kerry 2004 election.Bush never deserved to win that election. It was all the lies and deceptive campaign by Karl Rove that made Bush win then.It is quite obvious that Wall Street and special interest groups dont really care for the American population and they want to elect people who will rule from the right. How dare you Karl Rove?

    “stealing our Democracy”

You mean like voter caging? Or maybe electronic voter fraud? Or using the justice department to go after political enemies? Nope, that's YOUR bag Rove. A democracy is where all citizens have a voice and a fair election. And when that happens, conservatives loose. You just think you're entitled to win so that justifies breaking the law.

All political parties, just like all organized religions, are corrupt and full of bile towards those that do not hew to their tenets and rules. Obama has demonstrated this. Karl Rove and his sheep have demonstrated this. As to the tea party bunch, well, someday I wonder if I'm going to be hit by a musket ball. Me? I believe in organized anarchy.

Karl Rove is a traitor to america and would be ashamed if he had any love for our country. He is only a very sad shill for corporate interests.

Rove has the audacity to ask the President "How dare he?" If this country ends up going the way of Nazi Germany it won't be because of President Obama. It will be because of Rove, Limbaugh, Beck and others of that ilk.

Rove and Gillespie both protest too loudly. They are as guilty as two dead flies stuck on a candy sucker. They are testing the limits of the new law their Republican leaning Supreme Court desision gave them from Citizen vs United – which hinted at – allowing them to do just what they've been attacked at doing.

These guys are crooks and are muddling in untested leaning criminal behavior by taking corporate monies – homemade or foriegn delivered – and spending it 2-3-times to one to subvert an American election by Enemies of the United States of America both foriegn AND domestic. Please citizens – Do Not Vote for any candidate theses groups sre endorsing. Please!

The Republi-Crat establishment is killing America. And the aimless, pointless, hypocritical Tea Party is only speeding up the process. The U.S.A. is a "Corporate-ocracy" that will stop at nothing until G.E., Time/Warner, Viacom, Disney and the rest of them control the world. To a certain extent, they already do.
A multiparty system in the U.S. would be great....

He doesn't really think these claims are baseless claims, now does he? really karl? really? hijacking our democracy was EXACTLY what you did for 8 years- from wire-taps, to entering Iraq on false information, to siding with wallstreet instead of main street...I mean there's a bloody laundry-list of evidence that would perfectly support the claim that Bush and his aides kept democracy in a tightly-sealed box and only evoked it when it was politically advantageous. the gull of this guy get me.

Not saying the Republicans would have done any better in this economic times, but I am sure either party could have found someone better than Obama! Obama does not even believe in his own health care plan...he just granted 1 year waivers to some large companies and even his own Democrats are turning against him.
