Rove to Obama: How dare you

(CNN) - Karl Rove is lashing out at President Obama and the Democratic National Committee over a new ad that alleges the former top Bush aide is “stealing our Democracy.”

"They are tossing out these baseless charges," Rove said Sunday during an appearance on Fox News.

The comments come the same day the DNC announced it is launching a national television ad targeting Rove and another former Bush aide, Ed Gillespie, over their involvement with an issue advocacy group called Crossroads GPS that by law - because it is established as a non-profit - does not have to reveal its donors.

The organization has spent millions airing anti-Democratic ads in key races and faces charges that they are bending campaign finance laws by structuring itself as a tax-exempt "social welfare" 501(c)(4) organization.

The ad also takes aim at the United States Chamber of Commerce, a pro-business lobby that heavily donates to Republican candidates across the country and which Obama and other Democrats have accused of using money from foreign donors -– a charge the chamber has denied.

“Karl Rove, Ed Gillespie: They're Bush Cronies. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce: They're Shills for Big Business,” the ad’s narrator says. “And they're stealing our democracy. Spending millions from secret donors to elect Republicans to do their bidding in Congress. It appears they're even taking secret foreign money to influence our elections.”

The president leveled a similar charge while on the campaign trail last week in Maryland, saying, “Just this week, we learned that one of the largest groups paying for these ads regularly takes in money from foreign corporations.”

The charges were first made by the liberal blog Think Progress, which reported last week that the Chamber has opened up offices abroad that fundraise for the group. But a spokesman for the group said any fundraising done abroad does not fund political activities.

"Have these people no shame?" Rove said of the attacks leveled at him and the Chamber. "Does the president of the United States have such little regard for the office he holds that he goes out there and makes these kind of baseless charges against his political enemies? This is just beyond the pale. How dare the president do this?"

“This is a desperate and I think disturbing trend by the President of the United States to tar his political adversaries with some kind of enemies list, without being unrestrained by any facts or evidence whatsoever."

Appearing on CBS’s Face the Nation, Gillespie also responded to the charges leveled against him and Rove in the new DNC ad.

“Karl Rove and I don't run American Crossroads. We're fully supportive of it. I've helped to raise money for it. I encouraged it to come together because I think we need something like that on the conservative side because there's so much money on the liberal side. You know, $400 million was spent in 2008 to help elect Barack Obama.”

Gillespie went on to address the allegations against the Chamber of Commerce.

"That was based on a blog posting that the President of the United States repeated that was put on a website that's affiliated with Center for American Progress, a liberal nonprofit advocacy group that does not disclose its donors."

Rove telling Obama "How dare you" when all during both Bush's campaigns he used the same type of tactic of taking baseless rumors and insinuating them as fact. Oh gosh... that's what the whole Republican party has been doing for the past 2 years!!!!!

I do agree, that it is wrong for the Democratic Party to do this. It is why the Democratic Party can no longer claim the high ground and why they are going to snatch defeat out of the jaws of Victory. But I don't think losing Harry Reid and Queen Nancy will be a bad thing.

Ever since President Obama lashed out at the policeman to defend his friend (without knowing the facts) I have lost all respect for him. Obama keeps proving his disrespect for his office, the U.S. consitution and the people of the United States. Shame, shame and shame again on Obama how low can you sink!

The truth hurts. Rove is a liar and an idiot. Why anyone listens to him, is beyond me.

When Republicans keep on calling Obama socialist, for enacting health care reform that is actually modeled on the Republican health care plan in Massachusetts, and for keeping the Bush tax cuts up to now despite their disastrous effect on the budget, they have no grounds for complaint when Democrats fight back.

No Rove, how dare you! You acted as a puppet master for one of the worst presidencies in US history. You and your party singlehandedly set this country back decades. How dare you stand in the way of progression!

Let Rove et al show that foreign money is not flowing in to elect Republicans, as many will believe it is true. I think it is possible, and the public should know if foreigners are buying our elections.

If its found to be true in the future, no matter how far, it will finish off the republican party. If you repubs want to win every mid term election, open your books and reviel those doners and shut the dems down for good.

This is just politics as usual in the US. This is what happens when both sides constantly bash one another in one smear campaign after another. Rather than tell us what they'll do as our represenatives, they bash each other, obfuscate the truth and outright lie just to get in office. Both sides are guilty and both sides are in trouble politically.

Karl Rove IS garbage. I liken him to Benedict Arnold. He stands for NOTHING similar to American democratic values. If anything, he stands for tyranny.

"You know, $400 million was spent in 2008 to help elect Barack Obama.” – Gillespie

You know, Meg Whitman has spent $120 million of her own cash just to buy the California governor's office? Makes $400M for the whole country seem like chump change. And for the Republicans, it is.

If it isn't true Karl Rove, then release the name of your donors. Americans have a right to know if these donors received bail out money from American taxpayers which is now being used by Republicans for political purposes. AMERICANS NEED TO STAND UP AND DEMAND ANSWERS OF WHO RECEIVED OUR BAILOUT MONEY AND ARE NOW USING IT TO SUPPORT ONE PARTY(REPUBLICANS).

This is how the democrats operate today....tell the lie...have the media continue to repeat it....then have the org prove they've done no wrong....but then it's too late! Ads have already run...the MSM has helped spread this lie over and over again to the detriment of our democracy. Maybe it's time to reevaluate our "Free Press"....yes?
