Washington (CNN) - President Obama is meeting with mayors and governors Monday from across the country as he gears up to sell a new infrastructure initiative to Congress.
Senior administration officials say the initiative would center on the nation's roads, rail and runways. The president first announced this plan on Labor Day.
In the next few months, the White House is hoping to convince Congress to spend $50 billion to start upgrades.

Isn't this what the Stimulus was for blah blah blah... This country needed $2.2T worth of infrastructure projects between 2009-2014 just to get our infrastructure into good standing. It is completely insane that we are the richest country in the world and allow our infrastructure to be in the state that its in. Especially when the recession has hit people with construction experience the worst. Now is the perfect time to focus on getting our roads, bridges, water pipelines, power grid, etc up to code. And the plan is for it to be paid for, not to add to the deficit or debt.
Mr. President, to hell with republicans. You will not get any bipartisan report. Just take a look at New Jersey and how Gov. Fatso is trying to scrap the tunnel plans that will put people back to work.
I have seen nothing this annoying, incompetent, inept, union toady buffoon of a president has done for over two years that is bipartisan and I would not trust him now.
This nation is emerging as very "Strong Nation". Cooperate with Obama....I am glad, I voted for Obama....jobs, it takes some time...but we will reach....Manufacturing is coming back.....it is signaling....true...true....do not listen to GOP thugs who messed this nation like a hell.....on wars....on their economic policies.....go vote for Dems....God bless....
What happened to all of the "shovel ready" jobs that the porkulus package was passed to address? I hope you democrats enjoyed your 2 years in power. America isn't going to make that mistake EVER again.
