Miller: 'I'm not going to answer' personal questions

(CNN) - Put Joe Miller on the list of Tea Party candidates who have vowed to either avoid national media reporters or try to restrict the types of questions they're asked by them.

During a press conference following a candidate forum Monday in Anchorage, Miller told reporters that his campaign has "drawn a line in the sand."

"You can ask me about background, you can ask me about personal issues - I'm not going to answer," Miller said, according to the Anchorage Daily News.

"We are calling upon all responsible members of the media to focus on the issues, the legitimate issues and not repeat basically the lies and innuendos, not repeat the clear violations of law, but to focus on the issues at hand," he added.

It's common for political campaigns to strategize about their media relations tactics, but Miller is one of a few Tea Party backed candidates this election cycle to publicly vow to try to control the message that reporter's report.

Last month, a recording of Nevada GOP Senate nominee Sharron Angle surfaced in which she could be heard bragging about her ability to fund-raise by appearing on "friendly press outlets."

And in an interview broadcast in July, Angle surprisingly said, "We needed to have the press be our friend."

"We wanted them [the press] to ask the questions we want to answer. So that they report the news the way we want it to be reported," Angle said.

Delaware Senate candidate Christine O'Donnell told Fox News' Sean Hannity last month that national media interviews were "off the table because that's not going to help me get votes."

"I'm not going to do any more national media because that – this is my focus. Delaware is my focus and the local media is my focus," O'Donnell said.

O'Donnell did grant CNN's Jim Acosta an interview on Thursday, which was published online and broadcast on CNN.

I think Americans need to know if he was associated with the AIP. It seems when the baggers talk and reveal their true agenda, it makes them look unAmerican. They will always have Fox, and Hannity will lick the boots of the baggers.

Trying to control the media is something that is done in other nations (like China and North Korea) but not in the USA. These tea party candidates are unAmerican and simply want to dismantle all the progress made over the last 70 years!

This is what the Tea Party is offering. They want people to play into their widely broadcast messages of fear and xenophobia without actually looking at who their crazy candidates are or what they stand for.

This is news? Every politician does this in one form or another. Given the extent that the biased liberal media will go to to attack and destroy candidates they don't agree with, who can blame this guy? Would you cooperate with a bunch of people that you knew were out to do you harm? Sounds like a pretty smart guy to me!

So miller, for starters, all your lies and the money from farm subsidies in Kansas and receiving money from the State of AK while making over $70,000 a year don't count. I want to know about your personally becuse that would tell people what kind of man you are. In your case you are hiding a LOT!!
These people are scary because they are afraid that they will be found out for what they are. People who shouldn't be left alone taking care of your child because they are completely cluesless never mind being in charge of what happens to the citizens of the US. Is he afraid that somebody will ask him what newspapers he reads?

If your background can't stand up to scrutiny,
If your 'personal issues' are a source of public emabarassment
If you can't handle and interview, local or otherwise
then, YOU CAN'T RUN FOR PUBLIC OFFICE.

This is like that "you might be a redneck game"
You can play too! Here is another one, If your first campaign commercial starts off with denying your a witch...YOU CAN'T RUN FOR PUBLIC OFFICE!

If your scared of anything in your past you dont deserve to be in politics. I have done some crazy stuff in my life but I an scared of non of it. You can even show old sex movies of me if ya want, I was pretty good in the ones I starred in. I would easly run for president but you'd have to put me underground in that new 2800 ft deep hole they just built for the next president first. They're all living like Saddam and you people can easily see it. The sooner you realize it the better, I caught onto it about 30 yrs ago....when will you?

Well, TeaGang, I admit, you all got your dollars from the FOX viewers. I wonder though, if these TeaGang candidates actually do believe, as most FOX viewers have been programmed to believe, that a vast majority of Americans actually do watch FOX News, versus, say, Football ... Baseball ... Golf ... ABC News ... CBS News ... NBC News - not to mention Dancing with the Stars, American Idol, and well ... NCIS. It is these viewers (I call them the non-FOXers) who determine elections. Yep, the 350 million or so Americans not particularily interested in FOX News, it's pundits, or the candidates they support, one way or another.

In other words, this guy doesn't want voters to know who he is. Yet he wants them to vote for him. Are the people of Alaska so dumb that they would vote for someone who intends to hide from them?

When you are unable to provide intelligent answers to legitimate questions, that attitude is your only option.

Remember, "What newspapers do you read?" Answer – DUH!!!!!!!!!!!

Given that the primary Democratic strategy for 2010 is personal attack and character assasination, he is playing this one well. But then the Democrats are smart to stay away from real issues. That's where they will get beat.

Sorry Teabaggers, you can't have it both ways. If you want to scream about Obama's (valid) birth certificate you're going to have to answer when "personal" questions are asked about you. Otherwise we'll just have to call you a COWARD!

This guy must have a lot to hide if he refuses to answer questions. Can you imagine a Democrat behaving the way the rethugliban/teabags are acting? faux infotainment would rip them to pieces if they behaved like the rethugliban/teabags.

They already have Fox News, now they want to control the entire media? And 1/3 of the country thinks the Tea Party is a GOOD idea? This is nothing short of a fascist movement in the US and it needs to be understood as such.

How do you run for national office and not get that your personal life and personal past are part of the package? You give up the majority of your privacy when you choose to become a public figure/public official!

I don't know why, but I am always amazed how so many politicians, and this group of Tea Party candidates are no different, want to dig up all the dirt they can about their opponent but don't want to have to deal wit their own dirt. Someone needs to remind them YOU CAN'T HAVE YOUR CAKE AND EAT IT TOO!!!!

If you are going to sling the mud expect to get hit by your own mud puddle

Of course they only want question they want to answer. Otherwise, we would fiind out who these people really are. If you can't answer any question thown your way, how are your going to deal with Washington and what it takes to help run this country. Anyone who votes for someone who ony answers scripted questions is obviously not interested in truth or the good of the nation.

Boy this makes me wonder what this guy has to hide, other than the fact he is a Tea Party extremist who only cares about himself and anyone who doesn't buy his load of crap is worth less than a centipede. How can the press be a friend when they can't ask any unscripted questions?
