Obama a hypocrite, Rove says

(CNN) – The ongoing battle between the White House and Karl Rove continued Tuesday morning, with the former Bush aide accusing President Obama of outright hypocrisy when it comes to campaign finance transparency.

"For the president to say a legal and lawful action by private groups, which has been upheld by the Supreme Court of the United States, when he himself is relying on political groups….the president is being hypocritical about this," Rove said on ABC's Good Morning America in response to recent attacks from Obama and Vice President Joe Biden over the fact that a group Rove has raised money for – Crossroads GPS – does not disclose its donors.

Crossroads GPS has spent millions on political advertising this election season but does not have to reveal the names of their donors to the Federal Elections Commission because it is structured as a tax-exempt "social welfare" 501(c)(4) organization. The group has faced allegations it is bending campaign finance laws because of its involvement in political activity despite claiming to be a so-called "social welfare" group.

"[Obama] had no problem at all with this when groups were spending money on his behalf in 2008 and not disclosing donors," Rove also said. "He had no problem not disclosing his own donors - tens of millions of dollars to his campaign whose donor names were not revealed. And now he turns around and takes up because Republicans are doing the same thing Democrats have been doing for years."

The most recent charge against Rove came from Biden Monday night, who during a Pennsylvania rally said, "I challenge Karl Rove to tell me that this money isn't coming from billionaires and millionaires, insurance companies, oil companies, major executives, who have about as much in common and concern with the people or northeast Pennsylvania as I don't know what."

Thanks to the donor anonymity that Crossroads GPS was allowed to provide, the group has reportedly been able to raise millions of dollars at a faster clip than traditional political organizations that are required to disclose donor names. Crossroads GPS and its parent organization American Crossroads – have set a goal of raising $50 million ahead of the midterm elections.

Rove, whose name alone engenders anger among the Democratic base, has increasingly become a punching bag for the White House as the midterm elections draw near.

Campaigning for Illinois Senate Candidate Alexi Giannoulias last week, Obama declared, "Right here in Illinois, in this Senate race, two groups funded and advised by Karl Rove have outspent the Democratic Party two-to-one in an attempt to beat Alexi – two-to-one. Funded and advised by Karl Rove."

"So the question for the people of Illinois is, are you going to let special interests from Wall Street and Washington and maybe places beyond our shores come to this state and tell us who our senator should be?" he continued. "Chicago, prove them wrong."

No matter what the media says, the silent Democrats will go to the polls and shock the pollsters. If I had not wanted to vote, I will vote now because the Republican Party is insulting the intelligence of the Middle Class thinking we are fools. They (Republicans) caused the mess in the country and for over tenty months had only NO to say to all ideas.

Let's face it. President Obama is washed up. Finished. His presidency is a complete failure. Worst in history.

He is doing anything he can to hold on to power. Anything. No matter how inaccurate, reprehensible, underhanded or slimy. We all knew during the presidential campaign that he hated this country and would do anything he could to destroy it. Thank God he has even failed at that.

Yes Obama is a hypocrite. He really thinks he is a King or something and people just have to bow down to him and believe the crazy things that come out of his mouth with no facts. Crossroads should open their Donors list up right after the Obama campaign shows who donated to theirs in '08. Let's see who received the Foreign money . Baseless lie ! Bye Bye Pathetic little Dems the majority of you join the unemployed here in a few days.

Obama is a LYING HYPOCRITE TO BOOT! He is the scum of the earth. I find it very hard to talk about a sitting President in that manner but the truth is the truth. He has shown ZERO respect for this Nation or the People in it. Rather, he would turn us into a nation of slaves. Where did all the monet he used to become president come from? Overseas!! What a jerk he and his libtard cohorts are. Obama is a disgusting display of everything a President should not be!

  6. 8 Years of "Trickle Down" economics has only left a dribbling wet spot on working Americans's shoes!

It is not "hyprocrisy" if President Obama is stating facts and to date neither Rove or the Chamber of Commerce has disproved his comment, quite the opposite, COC has publicly acknowledged it takes foreign funds, and Rove and the COC just want the "little people" to "trust them" when they say the foreign funds are not used in these ads.

We, wee ones, were told to "trust us" there really are WMD in Iraq.

From here on out, proof then belief!

As usual, Rove is lying. All candidates have to disclose their donors. Groups like his don't. I think every group,no matter who they are backing, should have to disclose where the money is coming from. I'll borrow a line they used to sell us on the patriot act and say..."if you've got nothing to hide then why worry"?

Karl Rove and social welfare. That's like FOX News and Fair and Balanced. Karl, if you were so concerned about social welfare, you'd take your $50 million and contribute to groups that promote social welfare, or use the money to buy food for food pantries that keep the 40 million Americans that your policies placed into poverty from going hungry.

  10. Can't We All Just Get Along?

No, President Obama is not a hypocrite. He's tried to do what he promised. Just because the GOP are crybabies and are throwing a temper tantrum and should sit in the corner for the next 6 years doesn't make the president a hypocrite.

Rove, however, is a criminal, a liar, a pickled-brained moron who should be sitting in jail for 25 to life for crimes committed not only against America and Americans but against other countries.

If the President had it to do over again, he would proceed with charges against Rove, Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld and others for starting illegal wars and bringing this formerly proud country to it's knees. Obviously, Mr. Obama was naive. The party of "NO" cannot be negotiated with. The GOP may gain in the next election, but the next slate of Democratic candidated will pursue a "slash and burn" policy to expose them for what they are and remove them from the scene as plausible people to hold public office.

Please send me a notice when Karl Rove falls off the face of the earth! Actually, let me know when the entire Republican Party, Karl Rove, Karl Paladino, Christine O'Donnell and the FOXNews Network all fall of the earth and vaporize in outer space! Their 15 minutes have come and gone! Gracious Goodness!

The GOP got their way via the Supreme Court (stacked with conservatives) so we know that corporate donors abound at this point. Rove is just another spewing sore loser; still can't get over the fact that the Dems won in '08. I kinda wish McCain would have won now so that the blame for this mess could be targeted where it belongs, largely with the GOP. They truly got a free pass with their clever Rovian lie campaign to shift accountability to the current administration. Rove, it's tough to even look at your lying face.

Carl Rove and Dick Cheney should be in prison for improperly affecting a feeble mind when they pushed poor GWB into the war in Iraq on false pretences.
Carl needs to be investigated for unethical administration practices of including a GOP polital funraiser in forming US policy both at home and abroad.

The left will go nuts with this, but what kind of organization is MoveOn.Org, it is a 501(c)(4). I'm not a big fan of Rove but he is right on this one, Obama and Biden are huge hypocrites as are anyone on the left that complains about this on this site.

Rove is whats wrong with america. As long as you have let this guy hang around.America will never recover from its problems since rove is the single biggest problem for a country trying to recover from and economy that rove has helped push over the cliff. This idiot has been able to manipulate everything that is right in america and makes people frightened of going down the right road and has turned it all down the wrong road.Only stupid people follow this loser and it will make millions of people losers also. This guy dont care about you but only making rich richer and poor poorer and is the biggest problem in the republican party.

The pot can't call the kettle black! The simple solution is to make all the donations transparent on BOTH sides. Donors should not be allowed to hide behinid their money on BOTH sides. The bigger issue is being over looked.

The Citizens United case only made it past the Supreme Court because Chief Justice John Roberts overturned nearly 100 years of legal precedent by ruling that corporations are people.

Roberts should be impeached for lying under oath; at his confirmation hearings, he swore up and down that he'd follow precedent when asked about hypothetical cases that may appear before the Court.

Rove knows this; in fact, his whole adult life has been dedicated to putting hypocritical people into office across our country.

Why? Because he's a power- and money-hungry little man who will stoop to the deepest depths to further his own influence.

I'll be glad when he goes the way of his former mentor, Lee Atwater.
