Where's the Candidate? No-Show in Nevada

ALT TEXT

Las Vegas, Nevada 8:43 p.m. – Sharron Angle wants to be the next U.S. senator from Nevada, but it sure is hard to hear her speak. Her campaign told CNN she would be holding one public event this week – a speech at a health care conference Tuesday – then cancelled the night before the event. Todd Lefkowitz, an organizer with the group, says, "We were disappointed but understand something obviously more important came up in her schedule." They replaced Angle with an anesthesiologist.

Candidates cancel all the time, but Angle's no-show status is noteworthy because the candidate keeps such a low profile on the trail. Press shy Angle has unabashedly rejected the tradition of submitting to a public vetting by the press corps – or rather, the non-partisan press. She regularly grants interviews to Fox News and conservative radio. When she spoke at a reception with conservative radio host Heidi Harris last weekend, it was supposed to be open to the press, but when local television stations showed up they were told they couldn't cover it. Two print reporters managed to get in.

A reporter with the Las Vegas Sun quotes the candidate saying at the event, "We always say, 'If the press comes knocking, don't say anything.'" Angle raised eyebrows earlier this year when she told a reporter the press should "ask the questions we want to answer so that they report the news the way we want it to be reported."

As for the health care event, the campaign tells CNN Angle cancelled after her opponent, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid decided not to attend either – they were scheduled to speak at different times. However, according to the organization, Reid cancelled last Wednesday and is holding many other public events throughout the week.

Angle's low profile certainly doesn't seem to be undermining her support. Her campaign just reported raising $14 million in the third quarter. And she does make public appearances. According to the Las Vegas Review Journal, she appeared at a rally in the state capital, Carson City, on Monday where she addressed a crowd of supporters with a two-minute speech.

That kind of brevity could serve her well later this week. Thursday she faces off with Harry Reid in the only debate of the race. The campaign has said she will be there, and the press is welcome.

The United States Senate is a "deliberative body" – which means you not only have to think, but you must also speak coherently about your thoughts.

Since Angle obviously can do neither, she is completely unqualified to represent Nevada as Senator.

    'Nuff said.

What was more important picking up her meds? The woman is a lunatic and a first rate coward. This is not the first time she has run from the REAL press and I mean run like a marathoner from the press. A two minute speech? I guess she has less to talk about than we originally thought. No new ideas, no new solutions, just a recap of the same old without what are you going to do to help. Never mind, that second amendment remedy might be her best bet if she loses.
If the people of Nevada elect her I hope they are the first to lose their social security and medicare help. They all deserve each other!

This woman is nuts and any American person to vote for her do not desire to live in this country. This is her platform not to speak to any body that disagree with her.

AND THE AMERICAN PEOPLE ARE LETTING HER GET AWAY WITH NOT ANSWERING ANY QUESTONS FROM THE PRESS. What the hell is wrong with this picture?

I'm tired of Sharron Angle. She is nutty and a liar. I'm voting for Harry Reid. She raised some money because she asks for donations from people living in Virginia, Iowa, etc. They are not Nevadans. The money won't matter. Power to the people. She can't buy my vote.

Coward. This woman wants a job where speaking to ALL the media is a condition and she hides behind a few conservative press outlets? This should scream danger to all Nevadans.

"Angle's low profile certainly doesn't seem to be undermining her support. Her campaign just reported raising $14 million in the third quarter."

You see – this is why we need to keep asking questions as to where the money is coming from??? How in the HELL did her campaign raise 14 million dollars?????? Come on Now – all of that DOUGH for someone who doesn’t even QUALIFY?????

NV VOTERS who are even 'THINKING' about wasting a vote on Angle – Demand that she disclose where her campaign funds are coming from!! If they DON"T TELL YOU – DON'T Vote for her!! Small Donors who donate for the RIGHT PERSON – REID – should decide the election!! We DO NOT want 'Foreigners' or the “Unknowns” buying our elections.

That amount is OUTRAGEOUS??? Voters in NV should ask themselves – DID I DONATE??? And if the answer is YES – ask yourself, HOW MUCH??? It's nowhere near $14 MILLION!!!

DEMOCRATS – WAKE UP and smell the CORRUPTION!! Do not allow UNKNOWNS decide the election – We do not know who these UNKNOWNS are!!!

Miller in Alaska hiding out from the media before he puts his foot in his mouth and now angle hiding out also. I guess when you're a teabugger you need to be a COWARD! Yet, so many Americans will vote for this kind of package of goods without having the intelligence to see what is in the package first! Zombies or Lemmings!

No candidate, Dem or Repub, should they think they can be elected without answering questions from reporters. People may not like Harry Reid but they know he isn't hiding or trying to just answer the questions he wants to answer.

Angle is obviously not to anxious to share her views, or more likely to have them analyzed since the result will be her being label as yet another Tea Party loon.

Why would any conservative give the biased so called MSM any time? Good move on her part. We all know the only interest they have would be some kind of gotcha moment instead of a real interview...it would be the same thing as giving an interview to the DNC.

Angle will absolutely, positively NOT show for the Debate with Reid? Any takers? Somehow there was another event scheduled at the same time, a group of 20 is having a house party and that's far more important than a debate (the one and only one she would commit to) with the Senator. The fine people of NV will absolutely not elect this crazy woman, even her supporters will not show up for her, she's just way too extreme and too much of an outright liar.

Vote NO in NOvember to the party of NO.

She wants the press to ask only the questions she wants to answer? Well, I suppose all candidate want that, but come on get real. How about answering the questions the voters want answered?

Yeah, 14 million in one quarter, an unprecedented amount so far for her . I wonder how much of that came from Americans? Not much to be sure. Sharron Angle, owned and operated by the Chinese.

A candidate who REFUSES to answer reporters' questions - or even to appear in public - is a FAKE candidate.

Joe Miller, Sharron Angel, Linda McMahan, Ken Buck, Christine O'Donnell, Rand Paul REFUSE TO ANSWER QUESTIONS BECAUSE THEY HAVE NOTHING BUT CONTEMPT FOR THE PUBLIC.

DO THE WRITERS OF THIS ARTICLE CONSIDER CNN PART OF THAT "NON-PARTISAN" PRESS? The public consider CNN, CBS, ABC, NBC, Washington Post, NYT, and many other liberal media outlets as just the lapdog for Obama. Non-partisan? Took me a while to stop laughing.

For Jessica Yellin to call the press corps, other than Fox News, non-partisan shows us once again the left wing media pinheads like Yellin are completely blind to the new reality. Fox News is the ONLY major news outlet that shows both sides of the issues. CNN and Yellin are so far left they continue to make snide, false comments while their ratings continue to go where falshood belongs –down, down, and down. Conservative candidates do the world a favor when they don't allow the liberal media liars anywhere directly near their campaigns.

She's not stupid–every time she speaks with a non-Fox interviewer or speaks in a non-Tea Party venue she ends up sounding like she's dangerously crazy. All she has to do is lay low for one more month while David Koch's millions pay for TV ads claiming Harry Reid drinks the blood of Christian babies and she'll be a US Senator for the next six years.
