McCaskill says Dem's ad ‘very dangerous’

(CNN) - A fellow Democrat warned Kentucky Senate candidate Jack Conway that his latest ad targeting Republican Rand Paul's reported behavior in college is "very dangerous."

Sen. Claire McCaskill, D-Missouri, said the Conway ad that repeats an unsubstantiated GQ story about Paul when he was a student at Baylor University comes "close to the line" in what should be deemed inappropriate in political campaigns.

"Candidates who are behind at the end reach, and sometimes they overreach," McCaskill said on MSNBC. "This ad is very dangerous because it reaches back to college. The ad came close to the line."

The spot hit Kentucky airwaves over the weekend and references the story that - relying on anonymous sources - reported Paul blindfolded and tied up a female student, forcing her to take bong hits. The story also reported Paul told the woman his god was "Aqua Buddha" and that she should bow down and worship him.

Responding to the report in August, Paul said he did not remember the event and added, "I really don't think that politicians should be asked to answer anonymous accusers from 27 years ago, but I will categorically deny that I ever kidnapped anyone or forced anybody to use drugs."

But the new spot from Conway says Paul still hasn't adequately addressed the matter:

"Why was Rand Paul a member of a secret society that called the Holy Bible 'a hoax' - that was banned form mocking Christianity and Christ?" asks the narrator in the ad called “Why?” "Why did Rand Paul once tie a woman up? Tell her to bow down before a false idol and say his god was 'Aqua Buddha?"

Paul expressed outrage over the commercial at a Kentucky Senate debate Sunday night, asking Conway, "Have you no decency? Have you no shame?"

"You know how we know when you're lying? Your lips are moving," an angy Paul also said. "You're accusing me of crimes. Do you know nothing about the process? You're going to stand there and accuse me of a crime from 30 years ago from some anonymous source? How ridiculous are you? You embarrass this race."

Paul refused to shake Conway's hand at the end of the debate.

Conway, the state's attorney general, defended the ad during Sunday's debate, saying Paul had still not answered the "fundamental questions" the commercial raises.

But despite McCaskill's unease with the commercial, she said the Tea Party-backed Paul is "out there."

He's an extreme candidate," she said.

Polls show Paul holds a single-digit lead over Conway.

Oh boy – telling the country that Paul behavior was inappropriate is dangerous. But heck fire,,,,,the republicans telling the country the lies that Democrats are Nazi, socialist, etc etc and calling them all kinds of names showing pictures of Obama as a monkey ALL THAT IS OK. But then I guess when republicans make a butt out of themselves with this type of ad it it A-OK but a Democrat can't tell the TRUTH about a republican if is has any type of negative bent. And so it goes on and on and on and on. Republicans are OK they can set fire to the country with their lies, and no body cares, but let a Democrat just try, just try mind you tell the truth and there is public out cry even from fellow Democrats. And McCaskill can kiss my you know what SHE VOTED ALONG WITH THE OBSTRUCTIONIST REPUBLICANS, AGAINST GIVING POOR SENIORS $250 dollars to make up for no raise last year and then voted to give her self $3,500. I am glad I AIN'T IN HER STATE I wouldn't vote for her for nothing no how. And we see in this statement she sure as Hades AIN'T no Democrat. too bad she wasn't primaried out.

Democratic candidates don't need to be attacking their opponents individually, and especially not personally. what they need to do is point out the dangers of electing ANY republican. haven't the bush years showed people what we'd be in for if we gave them another shot at ruining the country? how much clearer can the choice be? Dems, MAN UP and go after these fascist thugs collectively!

Conway is forcing me to feel some measure of sympathy for Rand Paul. And my friend has a friend whose friend has a friend who knew Conway in college and they said he was a devil worshiper and drank Coors beer.

"This ad is very dangerous because it reaches back to college. The ad came close to the line."

Is there a line when it comes to lies and distortions in political campaigning? How did we get to this point where both parties are more interested in character assasination of political rivals than in working together to solve the problems that are bringing this country down. Furthermore, the national news media has developed its own agenda which is can push 24/7 down the throats of the electorate disguised as balanced and fair coverage when in reality they provide a platform for national parties to attack each other. The system is broke. Can it be saved given the present animosity that exists not only between the political parties but also among the masses? America, the day of reckoning is coming.

Rand Paul has to satisfactorily respond to the allegation just as any candidate is expected to do. It doesn't matter how many years ago it may have happened. I can't believe Paul's indignation at the incident's being brought up in such a close and controversial race. Hard to believe that something which actually may have happened while he was in college should be ignored_discounted_forgiven_.......or what.

Paul Rand stated that Conways criticism of his religion deserves an apology and that he stooped to a new low to attack a man's religion. But I guess that only applied to democrats who attack republicans. After all, republicans questioned and still question President Obama's religion. You are right. No one's religion should be questioned. Just remember, do not cast stones, Mr. Paul, especially when you threw many of your own.

Do you think that if a Republican ran an add like this, which thay have many times in the past that another Republican would have come out denouncing it? Hell no.Thats the problem with the Democrats they always want to act as it they're above the dirty game they've entered. The Republicans have life despite never having anything to offer because they play dirty all the time. Their entire platform is built on three things, lower taxes, less government and dirty politics. The only way to fight mire dwelling creatures is to get in the mire. Isn't it funny he said that he couldn't recall the event. If someone accused me of that I could say unequoivically that it never happened. This guy Paul is just another Republican hypocrit who wants power so that he can manifest his hatred of other Americans by legislating. I think it says a lot about a person if they've tied up someone and forced them to do drugs even if it happened 27 years ago. How many people can say they've also kidnapped apmeone and forced them to take an illegal substance.

This is a desperation attempt by the Conway campaign leading up to the election. How can you ask someone to "answer" something that is false and made up. If he has some proof of what he's claiming then it's fair that Paul answer the charges, but this is merely from an "anonymous sources" and Paul should not be expected to address such charges. Across the country, the Democrats are beginning to look very desperate and runs very negative ads. This is not the kind of "change" we want and it will back fire.

The Republicans have done everything possible to destroy the Democrats. They have lied, lied and lied. They are so dramatic with their antics that it is convincing. This is just one example why they are leading in the poll, and despite all the progress that Congress has made under Democratic rule, the party of the wealth are finding more support. It is ashame that people are so blinded by hatred that they don't see what the Republicans are doing. They are playing reverse phychology, and the media is selling it and people are buying it. It just a matter of time before there is a civil war within the states of America. The media is afraid of the Republican party. Once the media start reporting fair and accurate news, the Republican are going to follow Palin advice of reload and aim. Sanity need to make its way back among the American citizens. People who fail to address the truth are not thinking about future generations to come. This mess was not made overnight and it will not be fixed overnight. At least we are now in the repair stage.
