NAACP goes after Tea Party again

(CNN) - The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People released a new study Wednesday that claims to tie members of the Tea Party to white supremacist groups, anti-immigration organizations, anti-semitic groups and independent militias.

The study, conducted by the Institute for Research and Education on Human Rights analyzed the membership of six Tea Party organizations in the country.

According to the NAACP, five of the six Tea Party groups are headed by "birthers," people who believe President Obama is not a citizen of the United States.

The study looked at Tea Party literature as well as their websites and information about those associated with the Tea Party movement to analyze their ties. The report claims that Tea Party events are now forums for extremists "hoping to push these (white) protesters toward a more self-conscious and ideological white supremacy."

"These groups and individuals are out there, and we ignore them at our own peril," Ben Jealous, president and CEO of the NAACP said in a statement. "They are speaking at Tea Part events, recruiting at rallies… the danger is not that the majority of Tea Party members share their views, but that left unchecked, these extremists might indirectly influence the direction of the Tea Party and therefore the direction of our country."

Amy Kremer, Chairman of the Tea Party Express responded to the report.

"Here we are two weeks out from a historic midterm election and they're doing this to attack us and change the message," Kremer said. "This is ridiculous, that's not what this movement is about. We're focused on the issues and we're going to continue to work to get conservatives elected."

Rev. C.L. Bryant, founder of One Nation Back to God responded on behalf of FreedomWorks, a conservative non-profit grassroots organization that provides much of the logistics and organization behind Tea Party events.

"It is unfortunate that the Chairman of the NAACP, Ben Jealous is making these kinds of statements at this time," Bryant said. "(It is) designed to distract would-be voters from the true issues of this election season to something as divisive as race."

In July the NAACP passed a resolution that condemned what if felt was rampant racism in the Tea Party movement. At the time, Tea Party activists denounced the action as unfounded and unfair as well.

EVERY Republican I know is a bigot and openly admits to being a racist. The Tea Hate Klan is simply the GOP on steriods secretly funded by white supremist groups or people in the South that want to go back to the days of Segregation. Shame on the GOP for being complicit in sponsoring these nutjobs. The Tea Party is a scam stop promoting them 24/7 CNN.

Bigotry is making a strong comeback in America. It's practicioners now don't have the courage to say they are bigots; they hide behind "immigration" and "marriage/family" and "Christianity" to hide their desire to oppress hispanics, gays, and other religions (especially Islam). But they are bigots. And many are posting on this topic.

So you are worried that some one mught influence people in what you consider to be the wrong way? Why is your way right? Why is their way wrong? You don't seem to understand that the strength of this country in times past was the different viewpoints brought to the table by reasonable people to resolve a situation. This is one more example of a group (conservative or liberal) that has decided that it will be purposefully divisive in nature. You have no prupose other than your own agenda and you will not allow that there are other diverse points of view. This is what is so sad at this time in our nations history. A divisive president, a divisive congress, a divisive presidential cabinet. Now the social groups are adopting the same lame stance....

So they do this big study of the Tea Party after already having a run-in. Do you think there is any combination of possible results that a liberal organization like the NAACP would release 2 weeks before mid-term elections that would say Tea Party people are just the same as everyone else?!?!?! I would say the timing alone nullifies everything they are saying.

Water is wet, the sky is blue, the tea party is full of racist freaks....
    What is the news here???

See this is what happens when you listen to Rush, you get convinced that YOU are the victim, YOU the WHITE MAN.

What Republicans NEED is something Alcoholics call a moment of clarity, the point where you stop blaming others for your problems and accept defeat and humble yourself. Only then you can stat the cleansing process, otherwise those suppressed feelings, those things that you have drank away, snorted away, hidden deep inside can finally come to surface, you can deal with them, let them hurt WE ARE SUPPOSED TO FEEL HURT OCCASIONALLY, and GET RID OF THAT FILTH THAT HAS POISONED YOUR SOUL YOUR WHOLE LIFE.

...and NO, just accepting Jesus doesn't work, you are still blaming others for your problems (in this case the original sin), YOU HAVE TO ACCEPT YOUR FAULTS (and you Republicans have a storage full each)

I don't even know why the NAACP have their trite quibbles printed...CNN is giving them far more credibility than deserved. They are going after and intentionally tarnishing people...what a bunch of racist scumbags. They're worse than the KKK

Do we even need the NAACP? If you ask me, it is a racist organization to begin with. Can I (white male) get any funding or help from the NAACP? NO! Now, if I were to try and start the National Advancement for Caucasian People, I would be labeled a racist, hate monger ect. This country is full of reverse racism, such as this and yet it is accepted. Why?

Mr. Jealous is right......and it doesn't take a rocket scientist to see what some of the Tea Party is about!! Shame on those Republicans who justify/condone this kind of drama in the 21st Century!! And I'm really surprised how the Tea Party quotes the constitution and preach patriotism while emphasizing "take our country back"....codewords! But I really believe they think its possible to have it the way the forefathers really intended America to always be! Much too late.....and TEa Party folk need to get over it and move forward with the rest of America!!.

The naacp didn't do the study don't shoot the messenger. Truth always hurts they are only stating what most blacks believe anyway. I'm pretty sure some idiots on the right will say the naacp is racist and might have some within its organization but not at the top. They ate np better than you but fact we didn't own white slaves. And I can promise Black will never be slaves on this country again honestly conservatives you all don't want those type of problems.

If you don't like Obama, which I don't, then you are a racist. If you don't like watermellon, which I do, you are a racist. If you don't support the mosque, which I don't, you are a bigot. If you don't support Lewis Farrikan, Jessie Jackson, & Sharpton, which I don't, you are racist... really..??.. how about if I don't like it when it rains..??.. I guess that would make me a racist too! I guess I'm a friggin racist... now what do you want to talk about?

This is no big surprise. Tea Party is just a bunch of pissed off older white people. Where I live, follow the the rednecks and bible thumpers and you'll see the true face of this silly republican party off-shoot. It's like what Stringer says in the Wire: When things get bad for business change up the name. This election basically a race to the bottom.

Yep, every white person who believes in individual responsibility instead of government dependence, and equal opportunity instead of equality of outcomes has to be a racist.

The NAACP will come up with anything if it can get votes for the candidate it likes. Playing the race card is their usual tactic. Most Tea Party candidates are Republican.. while just about all of the NAACP leaders are Democrat.. hmm.. coincidence??
