(CNN) – A major union group launched a new ad for embattled Nevada Sen. Harry Reid on Thursday, adding to the already bitter ad war between Reid and his Republican opponent, Sharron Angle.
In the ad, created by the Services Employee International Union (SEIU), a woman narrator says Angle is "too dangerous to have real power over real people," and questions how her positions would affect women at all stages of life.
"If she was raped and got pregnant, Angle would force her to have the baby," the narrator says as a teenage girl stares directly into the camera.
Later, the narrator says, "At every stage, it would be worse for her. Worse for all of us," over an image of a woman getting progressively older.
The ad, set to air in Reno, Nevada for the next ten days, is part of a major push by the SEIU for Reid. The group said it has also spent three quarters of a million dollars campaigning for the Senate majority leader.
Angle has also gotten some help from outside groups in her bid to unseat Reid. Last week, the Susan B. Anthony List, a pro-life group, and the conservative CitizenLink, launched a television ad in the Reno and Las Vegas markets in support of Angle.
Several recent polls show the race between the top Democrat in the Senate and the former assemblywoman in a dead heat.
The SEIU has played an active role this election cycle, weighing in on several key races across the country, including the contentious Democratic primary race between Sen. Blanche Lincoln and Lt. Gov. Bill Halter in Arkansas. The group has also targeted Republican Meg Whitman with a Spanish language ad campaign in the hard-fought California gubernatorial race.
