Gay conservatives target gay congressman

(CNN) - A political group of gay conservatives will begin airing ads against a handful of Democratic candidates on Monday, including a spot against openly gay Congressman Barney Frank of Massachusetts.

In a statement, GOProud declares that this is "the first time ever a national gay organization is airing a television advertising campaign going after Democrats."

"Barney Frank is an absolute embarrassment," said Christopher R. Barron, Chairman of GOProud's Board of Directors. "He represents the worst kind of Washington politician."

In addition to Frank, the $50k purchase of airtime by GOProud will pay for ads against House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.), two progressives who pride themselves as champions of gay rights.

The group will also run commercials in support of Rep. Charles Djou (R-Hawaii), a freshman who was one of five House Republicans who voted to repeal "don't ask, don't tell."

All of the ads will air on the Lifetime and Bravo channels, whose demographics have a large share of women and members of the LGTB (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) community.

Citing "out of control debt, runaway spending, and the loss of millions of jobs," GOProud Executive Director Jimmy LaSavia says the advertising campaign "will show the American people what the real Democrats of Washington, D.C. are all about and make it clear, that under Democrats, reality bites."

Many of the most successful and brilliant persons I have ever met were gay and extremely conservative. Often, they were Republicans, but some were Democrats.
Gays who work hard want to keep the money they make, just as do all sensible straight citizens.

Gay Republicans are masochists. Democrats may have no backbone to get anything done, but the LGBT community does itself no favors voting for the GOP.

Any group can have a diversivied set of opinions until you get a group of one. So homosexual can be conservatives or liberals. In this case, it is not being homosexual that is important, it is the group that is attacking Frank is acting primarily as a conservative group.

If they could just cost Barney Frank his race it would be great. Barney Frank screwed every Tax Payer with his management of Fannie and Freddie. It will still be being paid on by our Grand Children. He needs to go.

Gay Republican would sell their souls to the devil. How do you belong to a party that hates you just to feel accepted financially and hold on to material things??

It's nice to see that there are gay conservatives out there. I, for one, welcome them to the conservative side.

Wow – this is a SWITCH!!! Their ONLY hope of getting anything done in the WH as far as GAY RIGHTS is NOT coming from the RIGHT!!!

I don't know if I like that name – GOProud – maybe they should have used "RepubliGAY or GAYPer or GAG (Grand Alethiology Gays) or GOG (Grand Old Gays) or REPUGS (Right 2 Energize Push 4 us GayS)..........Well, I'm running away with this – Now that I think about it, I like GOProud.

This is only saying that the FAR-RIGHT will continue to go right while MOST RIGHT move to the middle!!! I could imagine how difficult it was for GAY RepubliCAN'Ts to come out of the closet because this was UNHEARD from the Righteous Right!

This is T'SAH from Virginia and I approve this message BUT I do not approve of whom GOProud is going after and who they are endorsing!!!

These moronic idiots are in the same category as the collaborators who helped the Nazis. The Repubs hate gays, think gays are subhuman or not human at all, and these gays support and aid them?

What next the Christian Coalition running add supporting Pelosi? I have heard about voting against your class interests but seldom do you see people vote for the party that would just as soon put them in reeducation camps.

Is anyone gonna talk about the elephant in the room here? They are not really gay... just another Republican scheme to get votes. Why would openly gay people openly vote against their own self interest.... the answer.... THEY WOULDNT.

Sure interesting the Gay Republicans have time to protest the "evil" members of the Deomocratic Party but not a moment of introspection about their own party which discriminates against them?

Homosexuals that are going against the Democratic party are ignorant, unintelligent, uninformed individuals who need to wake up and smell the freedom the Democrats have worked proudly to defend for them.

It seems that mixing personal religious beliefs and politics is now in certain Republican areas fair game despite the first amendment , and that personal freedoms also guaranteed under the constitution are not sacred but challengeable.
I am sick and tired of Tea Partiers ,Republicans in general, and all those evangelicals who claim to be " consitutionalists" but not bigoted ( EH!! Ha Ha.)
constantly refusing to elect, or eject from power or trying to prevent candidates with opposite views from being elected.
If ever there was the most significant and appropriate use and damning use in meaning of the word HYPOCRITE.
We just found it. It is also a classic example of being two faced, which any god Abhors!!

  23. really?

I'm thinking: wouldn't it be more productive for any advocacy groups to run ads against all politicians who is against their clause regardless of party affliations? In terms of the GOProud, please ask yourselves: are you for gay clauses first or are republicans firsts? News flash- your own party in aggregate didn't vote for repeal. How is that OK? Because their repub?

Stop thinking Dems versus Reps and think about specific issues instead.
