CNN Poll of Polls: Americans divided on Obama

Washington (CNN) – Forty-seven percent of Americans approve of how Barack Obama is handling his job as president, while 48 percent disapprove of his job performance, according to a CNN Poll of Polls compiled and released on Friday.

The presidential approval asks respondents if they approve of how Barack Obama is handling his job. It serves as a barometer for Americans' opinion of Obama's job performance. As midterm elections approach, it is also an indicator of what Americans consider as they approach the ballot box.

This newest edition of the CNN Poll of Polls is an average of three national surveys conducted during from October 13-18: Pew Research (October 13-18), AP-GfK (October 13-18), and NBC/WSJ (October 14-18). The Poll of Polls does not have a sampling error.

While the president is not on the ballot this year, his performance in the White House is a major issue in the election. Republicans are trying to frame the midterms as a referendum on Obama and his agenda, especially what the president's done in dealing with the economy.

What should we democrats we divided on? Obama came into office with a gigantic mess left for him by the 8 years of Republucan mishandling of virtually everything they touched. You expect Obama to fix the mess immediately? The man's been in office less than 2 years. Give his programs and ideas time to work. Quit expecting instant gratification. Grow UP!

Unbelievable that there are STILL 47% who approve of his job handling? What planet are you living on? Unemployment when Obama took office Jan 2009 7.6%. Now 9.6%. National Debt in January 2009 10.6 Trillion. Now 13.6 Trillion. Now we have the HIGHEST number of citizens requiring food stamps in history (1 in 7 now need food stamps). Obamacare has RAISED health care costs across the board and within 5 years there won't be an insurance company left to even sell you health insurance (this is the goal of Obama to run all insurance companies out of business so we MUST nationalize health care). And I could go on for hours!! Those of you who still support Obama are clearly unintelligent and do not have any rational logic on how an economy ACTUALLY works. Those of you who still have your "Obama" bumper sticker on your car you might as well write "IDIOT" across your forhead because when you get out of your car that is what everyone else thinks of you.

Getting a little tired of his constant politicking. We have so many issues to be resolved and all he cares about is keeping the Democrats in office to further destroy our economy. Took a drive last night and could not believe how many restaurants and small businesses have shut down. Large franchise companies are closing their doors. There are no jobs to be had in NC and the largest industry (Furniture) is suffering greatly. Wake up – This is not how to run a Country. Stop trying to tell people what a great job you have done and face the music and listen to the American people.

Obummie is like Harry Reid. If not for me we would be we would be in a world wide economic crisis. People down the economic food chain just don't understand. We understand Obummie. That is why you are one and done. You are Reid are in your fantasy world and will be sent back to the real world if there is such a thing for you.

Willard – Are you serious? What is your issue with Muslims? Christian Bush and the Republicans committed Genocide in the mass murder of nearly a million Muslims. It is because of Americans like you that the US is considered the home of the least educated populace in the world.

I voted for Obama but I'm disappointed in his output. It's not his fault. After 8 years of the Bush Administration, the Left has been drunk with power with a majority in both houses and a Democratic president. They're fighting with each other so much they don't get anything done, and they don't see the Tea Party sneaking in the back door. Thank God America will be alright no matter whose in power. Our constitution will see to that. I'm tired of each party blaming the other party. It's the WORLD economy, stupid; not just our problem caused by Bush or Obama. Stop pointing fingers and start getting things done. This will only happen with bipartisan compromise.

Unfortunately, this economic downturn is like no other we`ve seen. For 40 years Americans have spent more than they`ve earned both individuals and the government. This really took off under Reagan. Remember the age of conspicuous consumption?

This overspending is what powered the economy through previous recession. The equation now has changed and we have entered a period where Americans are going to be saving as they rebuild personal balance sheets. There are no more easy answers and with record deficits Under President`s Reagan, Bush & Bush, the Federal budget is outta gas too.

Don`t try to lay this at the feet of Mr. Obama.

The President needs to beat the Republican / Tea Baggers at their own game.

A pre-emptive strike that calls for an across the board 5% reduction in every Federal Budget – INCLUDING DEFENSE is what we need economically and POLITICALLY it would snatch the Republicans by, well, the TEA BAGS.

They couldn`t argue against it and it would tighten the belt so much that the public would have no appetite for deeper cuts. Where would that leave the GOP? Up the river without a boat.

yeah, those people that approve of his job performance are those lazy people who expect the government and all of us to provide to them because they have a right to it, it is owed to them but don't make them work for it nor take responsibility for themselves and these same people don't put any money back either so why should they care we are spending like crazy and owing billions of dollars.

Without all the smears and negative stuff on him by fox news and tea baggers, he would be above 50%. Prez Obama is doing a wonderful job. He prevents the second great depression, regulate right wall street so the stock market become positive again compared to Bush years, make the private sector add jobs slowly but surely again with a growth of the economy for 9 straight months, give health care for 40 millions poor americans, education reform with more student financial aid availability, took well care of veterans and theit families, the list goes on and on. America makes progres with Prez Obama. Hence voters should elect Democrats so they continue doing good work for the american people and not go backward with the dangerous GOP/Tea baggers policies of George Bush. Thumps up Mr. President.

  14. Enough Is Enough

Under Obamanomics 47% of people who work pay no income tax and or get refundable tax credits I guess that's the 47% that approve. If Obama gets his wish of making the illegals (undocumented democrates) citizens I guess there will be even more people not paying income taxes.

Mr. President: You've got nothing to lose and everything to gain. In spite of ALL the lies and the millions that Big Business is pouring into the GOP because you WON'T play ball with them, Americans still stand with you and defend you.
You said sir that you were not elected to do what was popular, bu to do what was right, I say then to you find your center. Govern from that place that made you fight for some form of healthcare for us, for Wall Street Reform, for everything that you've done to help the middle class. Govern from there Mr. President. Screw what the GOP will say and do, and walk in the light of righteousness, and speak with the strength of millions upon millions of your citizens behind you.
    God Bless America.

The voters have short memory. If Republicans take over the House next year, the voters will learn again why they voted out Republicans in 2008. Republicans plan to do what they had done for the last 30 years when they were in power: cutting taxes, talking about cutting spending but actually increasing spending, and exploding the national debt. Besides, there is not much Democratic spending to cut. Only 70 billion of the stimulus bill remains unspent. Most of the spending on the new health care bill is not scheduled to start until 2014, and when it is operational in 2016 the CBO projects that it will cost 160 billion a year, meaning that it is back-loaded and does not contribute much to the current deficit. Repealing the health care bill will not help to reduce the deficit, because the revenues Democrats plan to raise to pay for the bill will disappear with a repeal. Once the voters find out Republicans are all hat and no cattle- because if they want to cut the deficit they will need the economy to recover, repeal the Bush tax cuts, and get out of Iraq and Afghanistan- they will make sure the Republican Party does become a permanent minority party in 2012.

Foreign policy is played very diplomatically, Helping pakistan financally to increase more terriorist activities around the world and engage India in arms race to go ahead and buy more arms from US to counter Pakistan. There should be public poll in United States first to decide on donating 2 Billion US dollors to pakistan. We Indian see it as a act of bending against Pakistan and OSAMA.

I love how the media tries to micro-analyze Obama daily with useless polls. He hasn't even been if office for half a term. As if people can seriously cast judgement in 1.5 years after he just inherited the biggest mess since Herbert Hoover left office. Oh yeah so Obama just should wave a magic wand and bring back the millions of jobs that were outsourced to India/China the past 10 years? Even if he DID – I'm sure the GOP clones would still find something to whine about him.

I see, never mind. You took two liberal polls run by the Obama campaign, and bumped them up against one conservative poll. I should have known better.
