Reid says he doesn't need to prove his manhood

(CNN) – In a Senate race that has devolved into a bravado competition of sorts, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid says he doesn't have to prove his manhood.

"People in Nevada know me. From the street to the ring to the Senate chambers, I've never had to prove my manhood to anyone," Reid, a one-time boxer, told MSNBC on Thursday.

The comments come in response to repeated jabs from Republican opponent Sharron Angle, who often says Reid needs to "man up" when it comes to dealing with issues like the economy and Social Security.

Angle first debuted her "man up" line of attack at a Nevada debate last week and has since repeated the mantra against the soft-spoken 70-year-old senator ever since.

At a campaign stop in Las Vegas on Thursday, Angle said, "He needs to take some responsibility. He says it is not his fault on the economy. Man up, Harry Reid. He says there is no problem with Social Security. Man up, Harry Reid. He says this war is lost and your general is dishonest. You owe us an apology. Man up, Harry Reid."

But in his interview with MSNBC, Reid suggested it is in fact Angle who has shown a lack of machismo in her dealings with the media.

"For this woman… she doesn't do interviews," said Reid. "She spends most of the time in her bunker. I don't know if it’s [Dick] Cheney's bunker. But it's some kind of bunker someplace. "

"She is extreme, she is dangerous, and embarrassing to the state of Nevada," the Senate's senior Democrat added.

Recent polls show Reid and Angle are locked in a dead heat.

Oh Jesus Christ, Nov. 2 can not come fast and we pass through all these kind of craziness. Sherry Angle is totally the crazy individual. I have never come across any candidate of her type. Anyone who will vote for her will do it in their own risk. I regret to say she has no any dignity!

What are her solutions? That right get rid of Social Security, Dept Of Ed, Dept of Energy and Medicaid/Medicare. Repeal healthcare. When are these folks going to realize if the Obama Administration did not step in we would be in the 2nd Great Depression.

All these Republican women calling for the guys to show some cojones or to man up kind of sounds like penis envy to me! Of course, by now everyone in America knows that the only reason that Todd Palin is allowed to wear pants is that his legs probably look lousy in a skirt, oops, I mean a kilt.

I don't believe he took the bait, what a turkey Reid is! Nevadans, you know what you're getting with each of these candidates. Make the right choice; send Reid packing!

Of whole the entire election, I do not care who will win or who will lose. But I will watch carefully the Nevada race, and will be the happiest person on earth if this woman Sharon Angle will lose the election.

Reid doesn't have to prove his manhood...and he's already proven his lack of sanity. There's nothing move to prove. Time to retire. Bye-bye.

Sharon Angle isn't hiding in Cheney's bunker. She's being held hostage by the Taliban government in Frankford, Texas, from whence various Mexicans who look Asian will smuggle her off to trial before the Sharia court in Dearborn, Michigan!

While Reid certainly doesn't need to prove his manhood, Angle certainly needs to "man up" and prove her sanity and fitness to govern. She's is totally nuts and has no new ideas, other than returning America to the 50s. The 1850s, that is.

People who don't think logically, who are not educated, who put down people who are - are scary and are bad as leaders for the country. I don't want some low-brow as a leader. God help us!

  15. The reality is...

Democrats labeling Conservatives as extreme is ridiculous. Since when did these things become extreme? ::
    Reducing taxes
    Reducing government spending
    returning our Constitutional rights
    sticking with traditional marriage
protecting the God given rights of the unborn
Extreme is what the Democrats are all about and their agenda will further destroy the U.S.

Well, he does seem a little like the nuclear power plant owner on the Simpson's. Then again, he's a democrat and they're so busy proving their "softness" to offended groups that a lack of manhood just comes natural.

Sarah Palin has pushed politics to a new low. This is what happens when a public person doesn't have education. Sarah Palin is all about "stump speech". She is not knowledgeable on any issues and so "cheap talk" is what Sarah is all about. She endorsed Sharron – who reflects Sarah's level. These women are really cheap. I hope when these men they are telling to "man up" say back somethig sexist to them we do not hear "cry wolf". Sarah is a DISGRACE TO WOMEN AND A LOW BLOW TO POLITICS.

So true. I am not a big fan of Harry Reid and I never thought I'd say this, but I think he may actually be the lesser of the two evils here.

Not a big fan of Harry Reid, but this stuff about "manning up" is the kind of talk gang members and thugs use. I would hope our country is a little more evolved than this. God help us if these people take over the civil discourse in this country – because if they do it will be the nail in the coffin to civil discourse!

Angle looks like she is the daughter of the joker. If you look close at her she has a lot that resembles the joker. Pale white face, a mouth that seems that goes from ear to ear, her lip stick is as red as the jokers and her large smile with those big teeth that never seems to have a bottom, her hair is cut like the jokers, yeah she is the jokers daughter for sure.

Sharron Angle is all kinds of wrong. She can't run on policies and platforms because she doesn't have any. She attacks Reid's manhood? Out of bounds. He isn't attacking her femininity. She attacks his home's worth in DC. He has to live somewhere while in DC! And isn't wealth and prosperity something Republicans value? Is she criticizing Boehner or DeMint? This woman is out of touch with reality.

I agree she is dangerous and the CORPORATIONS are running the Tea party. They want to kill unions, eliminate the minimum wage, do away with free education for middle class, eliminate benefits to veterans, and take health care away fromt the middle class. The dumber ones like angle Miller and o'donnell have admitted it. Pray voteRs–Hitler was elected in a time of discontent.

Why should it turn heads? Angle literally told him to "man up." Republican women have been doing it all year. O'Donnell's campaign made insinuations that Coons might be gay. Palin has been telling male politicians to "man up," yammering about "mama grizzlies" and endorsing female candidates even when they're nuts (because she's nuts). It's very clear that it is a calculated tactic to emasculate their male opponents in the voters' eyes and, in some cases, to create a perception of the female candidate as more masculine in her disposition...tough, irrascible, full of vim and vigor, ready to talk big, play with the big dogs and "protect this nation," etc. It also plays the gender card a little by focusing on the gender distinction between the candidates, the need for more women in positions of power, etc. Touches all that. Reid responding to it isn't a head turner. It's a GOP talking point grenade full of nonsense shrapnel...he has to address it.

Once again – how can anyone vote for a Tea Partier? They are all so whiny and brittle, refusing to talk unless they can have their own way and when put into a corner start throwing tantrums. Embarrassing.
