(CNN) – Former President Bill Clinton continued his cross-country campaign swing Sunday night to help the longest-serving member of Congress in his bid to hold onto his seat.
Democratic Rep. John Dingell of Michigan is a 28-term incumbent, but he’s in a tighter reelection battle than he’s seen in a while, hence the Clinton campaign stop.
“Michigan was good for me and I tried to be good for Michigan,” Clinton said. “John Dingell’s been good for you and he’s been good for you in the last year and a half, as he has in his entire career."
Clinton also addressed the larger issues in the midterm election cycle including government spending and health care, and stressed how important it is that Democrats stay in control.
“I’m not just here on a personal mission,” Clinton said. “I like all this enthusiasm, but frankly there are a few things about this election that have gotten me somewhere between disturbed and ticked off.”
Although, he said he doesn’t “do politics anymore,” he got involved in this election “because I saw the American people about to trigger a movie I have seen before,” a reference to the 1994 Republican takeover of the House of Representatives two years after Clinton was elected president.
Clinton said the Michigan event was his 102nd stop during this election season, a tour that will likely continue through Election Day.
If only people will take to heart what his experience was once Republicans took over congress. For those of you one sided Republicans who blame your village idiots problems on Clinton. Kind of like the end of his term is blamed on a simple majority on the Dems.. Just do not vote straight tickets, learn about each person. Republicans have a lot to blame for what has happened that is something to think about!
You have every right to be "Tick Off" Mr. Presid. Since we do America reward lazy do nothing "No Republicans". The Democrats work their arse off long hours most of the time up in the wee hours to pass these great bills. Our economy was sliding down in a sand trap. The Democrats set it upon a "rock" with good common sense principles, while the Repulbicans did nothing to earn their pay. America Wall st was lazy and so are the Republicans. You will be right back in the ditch, because the hate rules. They hate the sound of "Made in America and "Middle Class America". When was the last time you heard them say that. Never! Vote Democrats to save your jobs and life!
Good Luck Representative John Dingell . Thank you for your years in service. President Clinton thank you for all your hard work in everything you do. You are both good men and I wish you well.
The Democratic base need to be ticked off and motivated to get out and vote. The country is on the verge of being taken over by a bunch of raving right wing lunatics who get marching orders from the likes of Limbaugh, Beck and Palin. Wake up everybody and keep your country from being Talibanized.
Well, Mr Clinton I'd be ticked off too if the far left were destroying my Democrat party. The Democrats need to wake up before they lose their identity, just as much as the Republicans need to wake up to the Tea Party. ( which I dont have a problem with, they are merely a reflection of what the Republicans used to be)
Run Bill, run. Because of the stupidity and lack of respect for the American populace by President NObama's administration, nothing is going to save us Democrats. You are not helping much either by inflaming the negative situation that has been created by the Democrats in power.
All the lying, smoke and mirrors is definitely not helping this time. Transparency is "NOT REALLY" a word that President NObama knows the real meaning of.
28 term incumbent. That's 56 years in congress. And we wonder why the country is in the shape it's in.
With unemployment at 13%, who needs someone who would be "bad" for Michigan?
The long term politicians need to be replaced with younger ones with new ideas on how to help this country. Just because you have been a member of the good ol' boy club for decades does not qualitfy you for office.
The amazing thing to me is Bubba as an ex-president is a more popular campaigner for Democrats than any Republican has been since St. Ronald of Reagan got out of office. Now, here is something to make all you Neo-Con Repubs tremble in your booties while sipping Martinis in your Country Clubs! There is no law that can prevent Bubba from running for President again (not that he would want to)! And think about it – wouldn't eight more years of him be preferable to four years of Hillary?
Hope he has popcorn for this movie he's about to watch on Nov 2
