(CNN) - California Republican Senate candidate Carly Fiorina is in the hospital for an infection related to reconstructive surgery after her battle with breast cancer, Fiorina's campaign announced.
Statement from campaign:
"Carly learned more than a year and a half ago that she, like millions of women, had breast cancer. After successfully battling cancer, she had reconstructive surgery this summer and remains cancer free today. However, this morning Carly came down with an infection associated with the reconstructive surgery and, as a result, she was admitted to the hospital to receive antibiotics to treat this infection. While this will impact her campaign schedule today, Carly is upbeat and her doctors expect her to make a quick and full recovery and be back out on the campaign trail soon. Carly is looking forward to getting back to her full campaign schedule and to defeating Barbara Boxer on November 2."
The campaign for Fiorina's Democratic opponent Sen. Barbara Boxer responded to the news.
"We wish Carly Fiorina a speedy recovery and hope she is able to return to her normal schedule soon," Rose Kapolczynski, Boxer campaign manager said in a statement.

Cynical me ... I just can't help but wonder if this isn't a stunt to remind everyone about her battle with cancer and to try to get the female sympathy vote ... I mean, really, she was admitted to a hospital to receive antiobiotics? They couldn't just give her a couple heavy-duty shots of antibiotics in her doctor's office and send her home with a prescription?
If she was that ill with an infection, she would have been really dragging and feeling pretty lousy for the last couple days ...
I'm just saying this sounds fishy to me ...
Politics aside – good luck with your surgery. Have to wonder if the stress from running a campaign for Senate, yet alone serving 6 years in D.C. is just too much to handle for someone still not over cancer. Unfortunately it seems there are always lingering issues with relapse and surgeries. She should be focusing on staying cancer-free and healthy.
Obviouslly this is Bush's fault.
Nobody should have to go through Cancer. And October IS national Breast Cancer Awareness month. But in this case I think she would have been better served to have had reconstructive surgery on her moral compass. We all wish Carly a speedy and complete recovery – just not in office.
Battling cancer often involves procedures, which suppress immune system as a side-effect... Infections, which aren't normally a threat to humans, can then take root
GET WELL SOON! A persons health is above politics. I am sure you liberals would agree.
While I hope Californians will reject Fiorina, I wish her well health wise, and a speedy recovery.
Back on your feet soon as our thoughts and prayers are with you. CimiGuard com
My mother had breast cancer and she fought til the day she died, no one put her on a platform outside of her family!

Get well Carly. California needs you!
Pray for Carly....
Wow, talk about timing! And, it IS nice that she can afford the treatment and the reconstructive surgery that she would so willingly deny those of us without copious health care coverage or private funds ... Just sayin'!
how idiotic!!!! Is this a news???? lot of people are in Hospital....she is one of them....Go for Dems....o.k
Get well and know that my prayers are with you. You are a strong woman and won't let this stop you!
At least she won't have to worry about paying for her health care unlike those Americans whose jobs she sent overseas who still don't have jobs and/or healthcare.
I hope she gets to feeling better.
Whether or not I agree with your politics. Get well. Cancer sucks and so do infections attributed to the battle. Be strong!
I wish her well, but still wouldn't vote for her though.
Get well soon, Ms. Fiorina!
Our thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery. Sorry to hear about your illness.
