(CNN) - California Republican Senate candidate Carly Fiorina is in the hospital for an infection related to reconstructive surgery after her battle with breast cancer, Fiorina's campaign announced.
Statement from campaign:
"Carly learned more than a year and a half ago that she, like millions of women, had breast cancer. After successfully battling cancer, she had reconstructive surgery this summer and remains cancer free today. However, this morning Carly came down with an infection associated with the reconstructive surgery and, as a result, she was admitted to the hospital to receive antibiotics to treat this infection. While this will impact her campaign schedule today, Carly is upbeat and her doctors expect her to make a quick and full recovery and be back out on the campaign trail soon. Carly is looking forward to getting back to her full campaign schedule and to defeating Barbara Boxer on November 2."
The campaign for Fiorina's Democratic opponent Sen. Barbara Boxer responded to the news.
"We wish Carly Fiorina a speedy recovery and hope she is able to return to her normal schedule soon," Rose Kapolczynski, Boxer campaign manager said in a statement.

Perfect campaign ploy: exactly 1 week before the election, expose the candidate as "hospitalized" to generate sympathy votes... all centered around her fight with breast cancer, of course, which she, "like millions of women", have battled against... generating concern while painting a "battle/fight"... overcome quickly, mind you, so as not to create doubt in voters' minds as to a short life expectancy. Nice touch on the part of the campaign manager.
She is doing this PURELY for sympathy. SHAME ON HER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'd hate to think this is a pity ploy but unfortunately you can't seem to rule anything out for Republicans these days.
The sad thing, and i hate to be insensative, but it's breast awareness month and the election is in about a week. The fact that this is even news shows me she just trying to pull in simpathy votes. very sad and if it is the case how low to exploite herself as a recovery victim to gain a couple votes. If this is her October surprise then thats just a sad shame
I'm already expecting at least several liberal comments that state this automatically disqualifies her from being in the Senate.
This is quite an ordeal to go through at any time, not even considering that she is in the throes of a huge election campaign such as this. I wish her a speedy recovery and that she is in good shape to celebrate her win on November 2nd.

While I vehemently oppose her politics and her being elected, I hope she gets better soon and makes a full recovery.

Wonder what kind of healthcare Mrs. Fiorina has? I wonder if she will receive excellent healthcare similiar to that of Rush Limbaugh, or Dick Cheney, the man with the artificial heart outside his chest. When these politicians or candidates are hospitalized, they should be offered the same treatment or lack thereof as everyday citizens who they don't want to have healthcare. It is only fair.
Not sure why her team even put this out if she truly only went into the hospital to get a shot and will back in the saddle in JUST ONE DAY.
She is trailing in the polls and this type of sympathy ploy would be cheesy.
Even by reminding people that she had breast cancer, during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, I don`t think she will reverse the women that are going to vote for her opponent.

sorry to hear that, hopes she gets well... but what i still dont get is why she had to diss senator boxer's hair, when fiorina effectively ruined her looks with this choppy, moppy butch cut she has going. she's a member of the cult of mean girls, which is just such a shame why these people who want to lead us so badly cant be a little more respectful and decent and set a better example than running off their mouth when they themselves are not all that they think they are.

Close to elections.... Hmmmmm cannot help to think that perhaps this is a ploy to cut on the slim lead Brown has over her and appeal to the women votes. If it is a ploy.... republicans are at it again with the fear and the have pitty on me strategy. and on another note.... 2 years to fix 8 years of failed domestic and foreign policy... really we are going to give Obama only 2 years to fix it????
