(Updated 4:47 p.m. ET with O'Donnell campaign response)
(CNN) - Christine O'Donnell, the surprise Tea Party-backed Senate candidate in Delaware, threatened to sue a local radio station if it did not turn over a videotape of an interview it conducted with her.
O'Donnell's campaign later apologized to the station for the threat, WDEL reports.
O'Donnell appeared on WDEL's "The Rick Jensen Show" Tuesday, during which she fielded several questions from listeners and the host. Upon the conclusion of the interview, an O'Donnell aide demanded video of the interview be turned over to the campaign and destroyed because such videotaping had not been previously approved.
It was then, according to WDEL, that O'Donnell herself threatened to sue the station if it did not comply with the request. WDEL also says it later fielded a phone call from O'Donnell campaign manager Matt Moran, who threatened to "crush" the station with a lawsuit if it did not agree to turn over the tape.
WDEL's attorney was soon involved and told the campaign there was nothing illegal about videotaping the interview for later use on the station's website and added that such action is protected by the First Amendment.
Upon further investigation, WDEL says O'Donnell's attorney called the station to apologize for the uproar and threat of litigation.
Doug Sachtleben, O'Donnell's campaign spokesman responded Wednesday.
"Prior to the WDEL interview, we asked the show's host if the video camera would be in use," Sachtleben said in an email. "The host never gave a straight answer and due to the constraints of live radio, the interview began without the campaign getting a straight answer or granting permission for the use of the camera. That's what we talked about after the interview."
Oh yeah, that nasty first amendment again. Darned if you do, darned if you don't. O'Donnell believes in the First Amendment except when she doesn't believe in it.
"We'll throw you down and stomp you," she cackled, then she flew away on a broom. Really, when will her fifteen minutes be up?
Stomp on people's head, threaten to shut down business, walk around in public places with fire arms...what does the Tea Party think of it self...I am getting a little fed up with these 15% to 20% morons running around like they can do whatever they want...I think it is time to show these morons that the rest of us have guns too and we won't be keeping our cool for too long...
Whats the excuse now lady? Oh okay.. freedoms only apply to you and noone else.... ;) gotcha
Huh???? What is the 1st Admendent? Sounds like we heared this one before.
O'Donnell is a expert on the First Amendment. Who is advising this little girl, she is stepping on it every time she turns around. The law suit may have been her meal ticket until the elections of 2012 when she runs for another office is is not qualified for.
All right... this is what america needs! Elitist tea party people who dont know the first thing about the constitution. If these whack jobs get elected, then the People of the USA are stupid... plain and simple...straight out dumb.
BWHAAAAHAHAAHAHAHAAHA. Some one get her a copy of the Constitution. Not that she would read it though.
I'm sure we'll soon see the video and all it entails. This lady is a walking circus. If she doesn't like how her interviews go, she needs to go back to her previous tactic of declining to do them.
Hasn't she gotten used to people seeing her make a fool of herself by now?
Darn-blast-it ~ there they go with that First Amendment thing again!
In this day and age, when you are at a media outlet, it is likely that your interview/proceedings are going to be taped in some fashion, either audio or video. What did she think was going to occur?
More idiocy from the Party of O'Donnell. The TPGOP are a laugh a minute, too bad some of them are going to get elected!
What's that? O'Donnell doesn't understand the first amendment... again?
Stupid is and stupid does. This woman gives Palin a run for the money in the stupidity race.
There is a big difference in threatening someone with bodily harm, and threatening to sue... but you wouldn't know it from reading this biased article.
LOL she sure knows about the constitution... especially the 1st Amendment LOL! typical tea-bagger.
Why in the hell did she do the interview then?
This O'Dummie is funny as hell. She is dumb as Silly Sarah and now she is threatening a radio station she gave an interview, well good for her. She didn't set the ground rules and now she want to change them mid stream. I glad the radio station was not scared and kept their tape. We will see it real soon as I am quite sure that their is enough laughter on that tape to keep SNL on the air for a very long time. reThugliCan't GOBPers Purtid Tea Bagges = Laughter all around the world.
I thought they (Tea Partying Constitutional experts) didn't do that sort of thing?
Once again, this candidate shows she doesn't know what is legal and what is not. Threatening to sue if someone doesn't do what you want them to do is wrong and she doesn't know it. She also doesn't know anything about the 1st amendment as she has already shown during a debate. She is not someone you would want running the country.
DANG! She Crazy.
I think the version of the Constitution O'Donnell and other Tea Party candidates must read: "Congress shall make no law barring the use of Irony."
another reason why tea party candidates shouldnt be elected.
You would think after her first blundering about not knowing what the First Amendment is that she would at least look it up before giving anymore interviews...awesome. I might vote for her anyway just to make things interesting.
