Democrats seek to capitalize on 'Rally to Restore Sanity'

(CNN) – Jon Stewart has called his upcoming 'Rally to Restore Sanity' a "call-to-reasonableness," but the Democratic National Committee is hoping it's a call to Democrats as well.

When 'Daily Show' fans descend on our nation's capitol on Saturday, the DNC will hold a get-out-the-vote phone bank at its national headquarters, and they're inviting rally attendees to stop by to man the phones.

"We need folks to turn the energy from that rally into action by contacting key voters across the country and making sure they have a plan to vote by November 2nd," the DNC said in an invitation that went out to Organizing for America (OFA) supporters in the Washington area. OFA is the President Obama's campaign arm that is now housed within the DNC.

With just a few days left before Election Day, the DNC hopes the rally - which is expected to draw tens of thousands of (mostly young) Americans to Washington - helps energize voters in a tough national climate for Democrats.

OFA staff will also be at Union Station to help those coming in on buses for the rally sign up to volunteer for get-out-the-vote efforts in their home states, said OFA Press Secretary Lynda Tran.

Debby – the GOP can always set up a booth if they want. Independents will be there, along with moderates and progressives. Unless you would prefer these groups not vote for you, come and put up a booth.

Any partisan divide here isn't a result of anything other than two things: (a) the GOP wants nothing to do with sanity and (b) they are all operating under the presupposition that anyone who would want sanity must be a liberal/leftist. The absence of conservatives at the event will not be a result of Stewart or Colbert promoting a particularly liberal agenda...they make fun of everyone equally and mercilessly. Nor will the conservatves' absence be a result of people telling them they are not welcome...they are, and it has been made very clear that this is intended to be for anyone who wants ALL of the congresscritters and politicians to stop playing to the extremes and start listening to and behaving like reasonable, rational adults. No. The absence of conservatives at the event will be because this is not a giant excuse for daily affirmations of their world views and ideology, because people are going to talk critically of both conservative and liberal policy positions, because people are going to make fun of some of the completely asinine nonsense the right (and left) have subjected the country to over the past several years and during this election, because people are going to talk about things rationally and use facts that conservatives (and some liberals) find discomfiting and want to ignore...that is all unacceptable to ideologues who have already made up their minds and who, instead of assimilating new facts and information to adapt their beliefs to reality, generate fabrications, conspiracies, delusions and rationalizations to explain away any contrary facts, information or evidence. THIS is the fundamental message of the rally: that the kind of hyperpartisan ideological nincompoopery we're witnessing across the board, but which is excused as "strategery"...the lies, the half-truths, the fabrications, the demagoguery, the misinformation campaigns, the irrelevant personal attacks, the corporatocratic wh-ring, the goose-stepping, etc...is no longer acceptable FROM ANYONE. WE'VE HAD IT. It is the antithesis of the Teatard message, i.e., that retreating to extremism is the most effective way to fight things you don't like and gain ground. It's not. That way lies madness and, ultimately, the final erosion of our ability to form a cohesive society. Failure of people on one "side" to participate in this based on claims that it is partisan towards the other "side" should be perceived as a refusal to let go of all the "strategery" we're so godd-mned sick of...clinging to it because they're incapable of seeing a better way or give up the benefits they believe it brings them, despite its costs.

Yeh, I thought this rally was supposed to be non partisan, yet I see one responder here, telling us she is calling registered Democrats to "be there in celebration of our efforts/" I guess that must mean it is an Obama defined "bi partisan" which means in Juan Williams terms, do what we say or you are fired. You know that "freedom of speech" thing that liberals so abhor.

This says it all, the Democrats staging a rally with a Comedian as its focal point message, no not the one in the Whitehouse, I am speaking of John Stewart...I guess Colbert was too busy testifying or picking oranges. How low will they go...
As I told the last Democratic campaign solicitor, I will NEVER vote Democrat again, as long as I live, and hopefully with my new Obamacare health plan paid for by everyone else (tax payers), that will be a long, long time!

So, hoping to find some way to stimulate an otherwise heart-broken (and small) base, the Democrats are hoping to ride the coat-tails of at TV comedian? Sounds rather pathetic if you ask me.

This rally will fizzle out like the last one following Glenn Becks. That demorat rally had 400 sponsors and among them was a communists party group and alot of union groups participants. This comedy rally will fizzle like the last one and add the two together would not make a number to equal Glenn Becks. We will see you clowns on NOV 02.

No matter what happens next Tuesday we will still have either democrats or republicans elected once again. The results for the American people will be the same, bigger Government, more taxes and less freedom.

    Support Proposition 19!

CNN: Democrats seek to capitalize on 'Rally to Restore Sanity'…. Really????
It would be very nice if ALL people, Democrats, Republican, Independents, even TPs, would take a step back and THINK about what is at stake! To keep on working to make the US a better place for all – or to push it over the brink. We have one chance to move forward – but, if the GOP/TP gets voted in – the country is going completely down the drain! Please, go out and vote! But, vote responsible, smart and in your and the country’s interest. Don’t be fooled by the GOP/TP

@Rick McDaniel that’s nothing but liberals promoting socialism that does NOT work!

Dear Rick, since these one liners about “socialism” came up, there would have been a lot of time for you to look up what it means. And, I wish you would hold the same measure to the rich as you are doing to the middle class and the poor!

I could tell you that “capitalism” is nothing but “socialism” for the rich. Taking it from the middle class and the poor for the rich to get richer without paying their fair share to society is what’s happening now for a long time in the US. The rich just take their money and sit on it or invest it elsewhere. They do not modernize here at home, no investment in a future for everybody! So, Rick, look around and see what the US has become. A very sad place under the greed of the rich (represented by the GOP/TP)! It is high time to do better for the 98% of the people, not always for only 2% of the population.

I can't name one Republican who worked to help Americans get a job but they sure are working hard to get elected. Republicans are "Sunshine Patriots" and why anyone would vote Republican who has been derelict in their duty in hard times when our military men and women work in good and bad times putting their lives in danger; they can't stand around blaming their fellow soldier, they unit for one common cause, all Americans.

Restoring sanity is certainly an urgent goal.
The irresponsible, incapable, incompetent, radical people the tea partiers are sponsoring is truly frightiening.
To think that these radicals could possibly get into a position of leadership makes a sham of our political
    system.
Add to that the republicans trying to buy the election makes it urgent that sane, concerned voters do not
    allow this to happen.
