(CNN) - Tom Perriello is a vulnerable freshman Democrat in a conservative district who edged out a win in 2008.
Perriello is facing off against Republican Robert Hurt, a Virginia state senator in the November election, and Democrats are pushing hard to keep that district on their side of the aisle.
Perriello's seat was apparently considered vital enough to warrant a presidential visit; in his first campaign stop for a House member, President Obama stumped with Perriello on Friday.
Hurt has attacked Perriello for his support of the Obama administration's agenda– a theme that is hounding many House Democrats in more conservative districts.
Perriello voted for the stimulus bill and health care reform, points Hurt has pounced on during the campaign season by saying Perriello voted 'in lock step' with Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi.
But Perriello has defended himself, touting his vote against the Troubled Asset Relief Program, more commonly known as the bank bailouts, and his position on gun control.
The race is currently neck and neck with three days left until the election.
