Bush says Kanye moment 'disgusting'

(CNN) – Long before rapper Kanye West ruined musician Taylor Swift's night at the 2009 MTV Music Awards, he single-handedly caused one of the lowest points in George W. Bush's presidency.

That's according to the former president in an interview with NBC's Matt Lauer, during which he said West's unexpected outburst during a 2005 Hurricane Katrina telethon amounted to "one of the most disgusting moments in my presidency."

"That [means] 'he's a racist,' " Bush tells Lauer in an upcoming interview, according to the Today Show Web site "And I didn't appreciate it then. I don't appreciate it now. I resent it, it's not true."

Pressed if Bush meant to say that the West moment was more difficult for him to deal with than witnessing the devastating destruction caused by Hurricane Katrina, Bush said no.

"I also make it clear that the misery in Louisiana affected me deeply as well," Bush said.

"There's a lot of tough moments in the book. And it was a disgusting moment, pure and simple."
During the widely-viewed 2005 Concert for Hurricane Relief, West said in an unscripted moment said that "George Bush doesn't care about black people." Telethon producers quickly cut West's microphone before he could say more.

Kanye was right. Just when did you care about Black people George Bush? Your VP Cheney is part owner of CCA. That's what you care about Black people. Black men especially.

What should disgust you is how innocent men and women had died in a war that never should have taken place. But don't worry because you are who you are – America has forgiven you. Obama is being crucified for your deeds.

Bush was an idiot then, & he is an idiot now. He did nothing to help the victims of Katrina. The worst president ever. He should be embarrassed by his actions.(non-actions) while he was in office.

Truth hurts, don't it, Georgie? Unfortunately for us, you had many, many other low points in your presidency, and our country isn't anywhere near recovered from the damage you did during your incompetent eight years in office.

I hate to tell you this, Mr. Bush, but YOU were all of the disgusting moments in your presidency. You should be ashamed for what you did to America.

He should be disgusted at Kanye, but also at the news media, who reports on stories like Kanye's outburst, but never challenges the facts as long as it's a liberal saying them. I believe Bush has done more to help Africa than any other American president, but you'd never hear that from our media.

Kanye is an idiot plain and simple. What's hilarious is the people who championed him as some hero after his little tantrum. But that's America isn't it folks? You can say anything you want regardless if it's blatantly racist and get away with it. Once caveat though, you have to non-white to say it and you have to be saying it about a white person.

Only CNN would run a negative article about Bush on their main page the night that Republicans gain 60 seats in the House while taking away 10 governorships from the Dems. Yes, you are more biased than Fox News.

I do not know Kanye personally but I agree, he is a disgusting human being and a racist! I'm glad the former prez called out this despicable person...There is no excuse for his tirades especially the way he treated Taylor Swift.

Who cares about Kanye West? President Bush should have considered the source and dismissed the comment.

Pathetic, absolutely pathetic! To call that silly, inane outburst by West one of the lowest points of his presidency. How about a little perspective, Mr. President!. Bless your heart.

I agree with President Bush that Kanye West was totally out of line with that comment. If he had said, on the other hand, "George Bush doesn't care about poor people", he would have been much more on the mark.

Please, CNN! Why are you so set on presenting all the losers and their actions that have hurt the people and that will keep the people in the dumps, to the American people again and again? Why are you so set on bringing people into the foreground that are bad history, mudslinging, misinforming the public, simplistic, fear and hate invoking? Can you not work for the public, for the country? Yes, I do know you are not “PBS” but is that an excuse to not check facts and report on what’s up not what is made up? If you, CNN, do not reflect on your business and programming goal, we will soon have another “foxy channel”! Is that the way you want to go?

His cronyism and incompetence nearly led to the loss of an entire city, and he's mad because a B list rapper hurt his feelings? His repines to Katrina was what was realaly disgusting. It's about time he "man up" and take responsibility for his failures.

To be fair, history shows that Bush did not care about a lot of other people as well. Everyone knows who he was working for, and it wasn't "we the people" as a whole but a minority base that Karl Rove determined would get him close enough to electoral victory in the short run.

Ok so now the definition of racism is if you call one particular person a racist. I am sorry Bush all Kayne was saying is you don't care about black people. He didn't say White people don't care about black people. He wasn't making a lumping broad generalizing statement that targeted a group of people. He had a very specific target in mind. Which proves only one thing about Kanye, he didn't like you. He didn't respect you as a president or a person, and he had a low opinion of you. That doesn't make him a racist that makes him one in a million. He just had a microphone the rest of us was forced to says stuff out of earshoot.
