(CNN) - In her first interview since Democrats lost control of the House, outgoing House Speaker Nancy Pelosi defended her leadership and was unapologetic.
"[I have] no regrets because we believe we did the right thing and worked very hard to convey that to the American people," Pelosi told ABC's Diane Sawyer on Wednesday.
When asked if she feels bruised given the election results, she said, "When I get time for that, I'll call you and let you know."
Pelosi expressed sadness over the losses dealt to her colleagues that will not return to Congress for another term saying, "it's never been about me."
She also said she has a "good rapport" with the likely new House Speaker, Ohio Rep. John Boehner.
The California Democrat and grandmother of eight declined to say what she would do next, but said she would pray and consult her family before she makes any decisions. She said she is grateful for her time as Speaker.
"I relish that, I treasure that, but it was in its time and in its place, and now it's time to move on."

I am so glad I don't have to listen to her whining every day now. That fake smile is more than I can take.
No Pelosi to kick around any more. What now, Repubs? I can feel the panic starting to set in already. They now have to actually BE the government that they purport to DESPISE so much. Should be fun to watch.
Pelosi said passing Health Care was a must even if it cost House members their jobs. It certainly cost them their jobs as it should.
The Speaker can at least take solace in knowing she's in good company. She was made a villain much in the same way Hillary Clinton was when the GOP couldn't debate her on the substantive issues of health care and instead decided to portray her as a shrew. For the women of American who participated in these blatantly sexist attacks on this woman, just ask yourself how this advances the cause of women in this country.
Seeing how Obama spins the results might be the most interesting part of this election. Pelosi should be a close 2nd, if we hear from her...
Reflect on this lady! Talk less, do more! I've always been a strong Democrat supporter but I can honestly say that the Democrats have no one else to blame but themselves for losing this election.
I really can't say anything . All i can say it was a right election.
She still dosen't have a clue. I wonder if she's even seen astroturf.
Dear Nancy, thank you for your very successful time as speaker, your good work and for your support of the President! It will be interesting to see if the GOP/TP can put up…It will be a lot more demanding on them to "DO" instead of just saying “NO”!
Pelosi should just go on vacation
Yes, it's in the past. Now let's mop up the mess and restore aspiration to America.
A little charity is a good thing, but it breeds laziness.
Being the recipient of handouts is nothing to which any American should aspire.
Leaders like Pelosi. Obama, and Lenin see the original American dream as a bad thing. They want the palaces, private planes, and other luxuries for their own use in the name of "the people."
Now it's time for Pelosi to hail some cabs.
I remember seeing television reports of Castro's Merry Men's binding "wrong-thinking" Cubans to trees and shooting them.
In essence, ultra-liberal Democrats want to achieve that same effect through taxation.
We voted some of them out Tuesday.
In 2012, stop the rest of them, and get Obama too.
Nancy Pelosi has been a great American and one of our greatest speakers of the house. At another time and another place she would be greatly appreciated. Yet, I am sure that time will judge her much much better. No one has been vilified as much since the days of Goebbels. They have succeeded, at least for now. I hope she stays on. Honest, sincere people are so rare and hence so precious these days. The country needs her, desperately, whether it knows it or not.
You may not agree with her politics, but you can't deny that becoming speaker of the house in a man's world like Washington was quite an accomplishment.
I wish Pelosi had been voted out and not be in politics ever again ,That person is dangerous to this country .Maybe soon she will no longer be elected to distroy this country .,She pushed everything threw that Obama wanted and she needs to be home doing her own thing and not looking out for us she sucks at it ,Shes done nothing good for this country .
So now does she have to pay back the 380 Million for the plane or does it collect dust in a Hanger??
I guess Boehner can use it for the 45 minute flght to Ohio
I have only one regret about Pelosi.......It's that I can't vote her out of office.
We have ya back Miss Pelosi!
You may feel you did the right thing, but the rest of America did, not and that is why you are no longer speaker. Congress needs to learn to listen to the people and what they want. This goes for the Republicans too, otherwise they will have the same problems.
Soooo glad she is no longer speaker. What a truly evil and mean individual. A total socialist.
"Pelosi expressed sadness over the losses dealt to her colleagues that will not return to Congress for another term saying, "it's never been about me."
Really, Nancy? Really????
It's ALWAYS been all about YOU and YOU know it. YOU say YOU'RE saddened at the loss of YOUR colleagues, huh? YOU threw them under the bus knowing full well that the garbage YOU were getting passed was going to make them likely to lose their jobs. But YOU, Nancy... YOU knew that YOUR seat was perfectly safe. YOU didn't seem to care at the time, did YOU Nancy?
Noooooo... it was never about YOU, was it?
Know what? YOU are a despicable woman.
You put relish on a hot dog, you seek treasure...Your time and place, former Madam Speaker, WAS in its own and IS time to move on. Would be great if you went to be a full-time grandma to those eight grandchildren and gave America a fighting chance! Thanks for all you have done...buh-bye!!
Wow, what a narcissist!
I love Ms.Nancy; you did good! Best to you and your family.
With Deocratic Governor in California and her overwelmingly democratic district, it is time to move on.
If the Dems are smart, they will pull a 35-ish bright, smart player out of the pipeline to replace her NOW.
The GOP was plotting her demise for a long time. They were SMEARING the "Obama / Pelosci / Reid Agenda" even BEFORE the President was elected. [Remember that McCain rally in 2008?]. This loss has little to do with "what" President Obama did. and everything to do with "who" he is. Fortunately the number of people paranoid about a black leader are falling as some people change their stripes and the rest die off.
Madame Speaker, you have served your country well. The policies you helped bring about will stand the test of time.
And that is exactly why she is not long the Speaker. This woman is so out of touch with what America really wants. So very glad she is gone. Too bad Reid and Frank weren't shown the door right along with her.
