Blitzer: Will Obama follow Clinton's 1994 playbook?

Washington (CNN) – Watching President Obama react to what he called his "shellacking" in the midterm elections had me remembering then-President Bill Clinton back on November 9, 1994 - the day after he and his fellow Democrats lost control of the House and the Senate.

I was then CNN's Senior White House correspondent and I vividly remember attending Clinton's news conference. Like Obama this week, he was humble in defeat.

Well if it's a playbook of the 90s, we can surely expect Obama to give into all republican demands, only to have the republicans continue to call him names and try to make up frivolous attacks to throw him out of the office anyway. Reagan never compromised with opposing democrats in Congress, why should Obama extend that courtesy to republicans?

Obama has already compromised quite a bit in these last two years. He gave tax cut after tax cut to all, including extending the Bush tax cuts that he was supposed to repeal upon taking office. He let republicans write about three quarters of the health care bill, giving up the public option and fattening the republicans insurance buddies' pockets, only to have republicans vote against it any way out of spite. He didn't close Guantanamo. He continued Bush's international policy to the letter. He gave in to the republican amendment to increase gun rights into national parks. He compromised all his policies away!
It is republicans who refuse to compromise. Unless they get all they hiss and whine and say they weren't listened to. Oh, and they want to be in power to get the credit. Otherwise they'd even oppose bills they wrote 100% of.

He probably will because Democrats tend to try to accomplish whatever they can but it would likely be better to simply let the Republicans do what they are determined to do: deregulate every industry at the expense of the environment and the American people, dismantle Medicare and Social Security, privatize the Veterans Administration and turn it over to Halliburton, Drill-baby-Drill, and run the deficit as high as they'd like. Let the American people have what they voted for or failed to vote against. We can go back to losing 500,000+ jobs per month.

First and foremost, when the Republicans vote to raise the Debt Ceiling, veto it! Tell the to CUT SPENDING like they promised!

Clinton is smarter than Obama but then Clinton is smarter than most people. I doubt seriously unless he brings Clinton in as a consultant Obama will do as well. Clinton spent years as a governor in a conservative state and was used to negotiating so like all things Obama it will be a first time thing in which he will fail miserably. Unless it is a gift for public speaking you cannot compare Clington and Obama. If Obama does not learn he will become irrelevant late term like Carter.

"We can go back to losing 500,000+ jobs per month."

Nah. That won't happen. Corporate Amurika is just waiting to start hiring again until we're so downtrodden, filthy and starving that we have to take whatever they'll give us. Purposefully causing cyclical recessions thru bubble economies is their tool for assuring that middle-class salaries never have to change...well, unless they can get them to go down that is, which they may hav achieved this time. It's their answer to the federal government enforcing employee rights, allowing unions, creating OSHA and establishing laws regarding benefits, minimum wages, etc. etc.

Obama won't work with anyone unless they agree to His Agenda and I don't think that will happen. America just sent Obama a wake-up call I only wished he would realize it.

I am sorry, but I really don't understand what you folk’s i.e...Pundits don't get regarding this election. This is not about the President’s policies, I sorry I just don't see it that way. I say this was about folks sick of politicians not doing what the leader of said party wants!!! The President was voted in the office by a sweeping majority because of his platform and for all intense purpose he has done most of it. The problem was the Democrats who held a majority in the both the Senate and the House and not passing exactly what the man wanted!!! Those idiots were basically, fighting each other while the Republicans knowing they were not going to vote on anything he wanted sat back and watch them shoot themselves in the foot!! Classic!! So the perception the American people saw was a group of people who were fighting amongst themselves looking like idiots!! So like I said a year ago if the Democrats don't get together they will be voted out and it happen. So this notion of this was an election against the President is stupid!! Wake up!! So now the Republicans continuing this sound bite and again when you keep saying crap like that folks believe it. To be honest the President was right in not taking this as a shot on him and his policies it was not!!

I love seeing all the Democrat liberals on this site cry, rant, and try to make excuses over why they lost. People don't like your policies and the majority pointed that out big time on Tuesday. Much like his idiot followers, Obama will not get it either as to why he lost the house.
