Palin’s Twitter controversy

(CNN) - Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin caused a bit of a stir Thursday when a tweet from conservative commentator Ann Coulter appeared on a list of her account’s favorite tweets.

The tweet showed a picture of a sign outside “The Blood of Jesus ATLAH World Missionary Church” in New York. The sign read: “The blood of Jesus against Obama history made 4 Nov 2008 a Taliban Muslim illegally elected president USA:Hussein.”

The tweet has since been removed from Palin’s Twitter account.

Coulter originally re-tweeted the item from the account of liberal commentator Marc Lamont Hill. The two often appear on television together.

After the Palin camp was reached for comment, it referred CNN to a statement given to ABC’s Jake Tapper.

“I've never purposefully ‘favorited’ any tweet. I had to go back to my BlackBerry to even see if such a function was possible. I was traveling to Alaska that day...it was an obvious accidental ‘favoriting,’ but no one can mistake that Ann Coulter was obviously being tongue in cheek with that tweet,” Palin said in the statement. “Shall I correct this with whichever wonderful media outlet ran with this (an obviously bored reporter...since there must be nothing going on in the world today, like, um, ramifications of a shake up of power in the U.S. House of Representatives?).”

Lamont Hill appeared on CNN’s AC360 Thursday and said the original tweet was a joke directed toward Ann Coulter because of their impression of the church’s pastor, James Manning.

“We make jokes about Pastor Manning,” Hill told CNN’s Anderson Cooper. “I took a picture and sent it to her because the sign was obviously absurd.”

Palin has used her Facebook and Twitter accounts throughout the midterm election season to endorse and promote candidates across the country.

Sarah: Put the Blackberry down. Step away from the Blackberry. Avoid tweeting or people will think you're a twit.

My final plea to CNN: Please cease coverage of Sara Palin until she actually holds a public office or declares her candidacy for one. Thank you!

Ann Coulter doesn't do "tongue in cheek". She is an evil, vile and venomous person. No wonder she has a following in Sarah Palin.

Where's the controversy? Palin acted correctly. So did Coulter. The Pastor's probably a little nuts. And the message on the sign is mostly true.

She needs her mouth sewn shut as she is such an embarrassment. She has a cruel streak, is only about self promotion, and I would doubt her loyalty to this country.

  21. United Not Divided

Why is this woman still a relevant voice for American politics? Whether one is liberal or conservative, one has to recognize the American people have to be UNITED for a common cause. Americans are not a monolithic and we can agreeably disagree. How is she contributing to the solutions to the problems this country faces? Become part of the solution and not another face for the problems this country faces.

  24. A Kickin` Donkey

    Please run for President Sarah.

Between the tweets, Fox videos, YouTube clips, the political rally tapes, the Facebook pages, the the odd-off non-Fox media interviews, ther is SO MUCH ammo with which to shoot her, and the beauty of it is that it is in her OWN WORDS.

Sarah, only YOU are COMMON enough to save the Republican Party. Please do your country a service and run ... thereby guaranteeing we won`t have a lying GOPTP`er as President.

Be the "Christine O`Donnell" for the Republican Party on a national level in 2012!
