(CNN) - Days after Republicans captured massive gains and control of the House of Representatives, President Obama is calling on both parties to work together in his weekly radio and internet address.
"The campaign season is over," he says in the address. "And it's time to focus on our shared responsibilities and work together."
The president specifically calls for swift action on extending the tax cuts, except for the highest-bracket earners. Republicans have demanded extending the 2001 Bush tax cuts for all brackets.
"We'd be digging ourselves into an even deeper fiscal hole and passing the burden onto our children," he says, referring to the GOP position.
