(CNN) - As questions about former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's presidential ambitions swirl, her remarks to a group of Pennsylvania students Tuesday night certainly did little to dispel the rumors.
Palin began her remarks at the Plumstead Christian School's Founders Forum by complimenting a student who had just finished performing, asking if he would like to sing at an inauguration, and then added, "not necessarily mine," as the crowd cheered.
Organizers bill the Founders Forum as a nonpolitical event that has featured other prominent leaders such as former Vice President Dan Quayle, columnist and commentator Cal Thomas, and the Rev. Jerry Falwell.
Later in her talk, Palin said that she is considering a presidential run, and that she'll decide "after prayerful consideration and a survey of the political landscape," because she "would be in it to win it."
During her nearly hour-long speech, Palin also told the students that she embraces "American Exceptionalism."
"We're the only country in history that was founded on an idea...not by accident," Palin said.
Palin also denounced government intervention, bringing up a local example that she said caught her attention.
"I heard that there's a debate going on in Pennsylvania over whether public schools were going to ban sweets," Palin said.
So, Palin said, she decided to "shake things up," by bringing cookies to the school when she met with Plumstead students early in the day.
"I wanted these kids to bring home the idea to their parents for discussion. Who should be deciding what I eat? Should it be government or should it be parents? It should be the parents," Palin said to a cheering audience.
Palin has also been vocal on Twitter about her opposition to the proposed ban on sugary foods.
Before meeting with the students, Palin tweeted, "2 PA school speech; I'll intro kids 2 beauty of laissez-faire via serving them cookies amidst school cookie ban debate;Nanny state run amok!"
On Monday, she also tweeted, " Hmm...may bring cookies to my PA school speech tmrw to make a pt "PA mulls ban on cake/cookies/candy@ school parties.. http://bit.ly/dvoI6d," linking to a story in the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review about the proposed ban.
But the Pennsylvania Board of Education is strongly disputing the Tribune-Review's report and Palin's characterization of the proposal. Executive Director Adam Schott told CNN the story is "just not true."
The Tribune-Review has since retracted its original story, and posted this correction on Tuesday:
"A story on page B1 of Monday's Tribune-Review incorrectly portrayed the Pennsylvania State Board of Education's proposed nutrition guidelines for school parties. The board is examining regulations to encourage schools to serve more nutritious foods. There are no mandates to do so."
Excuse my while I toss my cookies.
"Palin also denounced government intervention, bringing up a local example that she said caught her attention."
What about government intervention when it comes to abortion?
Just one more thing this two faced Moose Cow from Alaska does know anything about. Multiple independent tests over the years have proven that sweets cause children to become hyper-active and distracted.
This would-be farce of a candidate is an idiot and a hypocrite!
Anyone notice this lady never stopped campaigning? does she realize this? Sometimes I have to wonder if people like her think this is normal, people as in...woman mostly. May be your first run with politics but get with the program, everyone else is running their agenda by now, this lady is still running around causing division. Listen to her speeches, only someone with really bad ADD would find any direction, substance, or relevance in anything she says. Last it was her saying something about an apologetic military, I wish!!!! is this lady for real or what? because nobody is even doing that, hope she wasn't referring to Obama, just goes to show, clueless, her kid joins and she is a guru overnight, why am I not surprised? maybe because your all doing it. Sometimes it wouldn't hurt to listen!! We are flushing alot down the drain for these pretend Joe Shmo types, only an idiot is fooled by this, she will never win if she runs. Take the hint, or be shocked when she keeps losing. Woman can't even get past an interview without blaming everyone but herself. Childish.
There was nothing Presidential about her speech, just a whole bunch of unfounded comments with no solutions. The "cookiegate" comment was all about trying to fool her followers that big brother is trying to harm them and take over their lives and tell them what to eat., just a regular fear tactic she loves to pass onto her followers. I suppose she thinks it is "Real Americans" rights to eat garbage food, smoke, drink and be a burden to healthcare right from a young age so that insurance companies can have a piece of your monthly income at an early age, sort of like a socialist system take from the young and give to the rich. It was very hard to listen to someone talk about Christian values when they are filled with hate and lie for a living. I do believe she could make a great living doing speeches but she should leave the important adult issues to the exceptional people with exceptional education. The day she ever became President is the day the population in the US drops by 29 million.
Sarah, the political landscape is a shear cliff. You're at the bottom. If you try to climb it you WILL fall.
Hmmm...a potential presidential candidate who hears a rumor or reads something without verifying it themselves...and blows something completely out of proportion and gets the facts wrong. Ya, that's someone I want running the country. Someone in this story really needs to go back to her igloo.
Until the Republicans start putting this woman in her place I will never vote for them.......they have the power to show america just how unprofessional and the lack of intelligence this woman has but are afraid too for fear of losing the vote of the Tea Party......but they are losing more moderate democrats that do not vote party lines, independents and even moderate republicans because of this woman......so they better take this woman out of the running field or they are going to lose again just like MCCain did......
She can read the words, she can hear the words, but there is not processing going on. That much is evident even from the mixed bag of disconnected words and phrases she spouts out, as well as the concepts she tries to reflect. Wassila should be reel prowd.
Please start calling her what she is. Former half term Alsaka governmor. If she runs for president are we going to get her to sign a 4 year contract?
Wow what a surprise that she's against a Nanny State! Who is raising her kids? How many nannies? Or are they paid "assistants" or just the older kids. Too bad she doesn' spend more time at home baking cookies and taking care of her own kids. Ugh I am picturing a world where she is President of the United States and it ain't pretty!
More signs that this woman needs mental help!
I can't imagine Palin as US President. She is very immature and showoff
She embarrasses herself every single day.
I actually listened to her speech last night in an objective manner to see if my opinion could be changed. Sarah Palin is an overly egotistical fake who is laughing the whole way to the bank and I truly feel sorry for the people who support her that really do not no know what they do. Obviously my opinion has not changed from my first exposure to her during the 2008 Presidential campaign where I was supporting John McKain until that introduction!
She'll run and we'll have another mockery on our hands.
A "non-political event" that just happens to invite only ring-wing extremists to speak about how terrible government is? Can't these people just admit that what they're doing is promoting the Republican agenda and trying to force their religion on everyone. Just because they aren't as violent (yet?) doesn't change the fact that they want the same thing the Taliban wants – to force people to follow their rules so they will have power over them. Palin is great at delivering catchy phrases that mean nothing or are simply wrong.
I like it that CNN reports all her nonsense. It needs to be out front (and often) that she is ambitious for the presidency and will claw, rip and bite everyone/everything in her path to try and get there. Grizzly indeed.
