(CNN) - They may soon be fighting for the GOP presidential nomination, but for now Newt Gingrich is sticking up for Mitt Romney over his health care stance.
The Massachusetts health care plan enacted while Romney was governor of the state is often criticized by conservatives for its similarities to the health care bill passed by Congress last year. But former House Speaker Gingrich came to his defense.

Washington (CNN) - Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell, one of the chief, old-bull defenders of earmarks, bowed to growing pressure from the public and his fellow GOP senators, and announced Monday he would support a ban on earmarks by Republican lawmakers in the new Congress.
"I have come down to this spot and said the Democrats are ignoring the wishes of the American people," McConnell said in a surprise announcement on the Senate floor. "When it comes to earmarks, I won't be guilty of the same thing."

"Refudiate" was named the 2010 word of the year by the New Oxford American Dictionary.
The former Alaska governor famously used the made-up word on her Twitter account in July, which sent the media into a tizzy.

Washington (CNN) - Standing outside Speaker Nancy Pelosi's office in the Capitol waiting for a meeting to break up, I bumped into Wisconsin Republican Rep-elect Sean Duffy who was wandering around the second floor of the building on Monday giving himself his first tour of the Capitol.
Sunday was the first time the incoming freshman Republican set foot in the Capitol building and he was especially excited and surprised when House GOP Leader John Boehner took incoming freshmen on the House floor. Duffy told me "it was pretty awesome."
