Palin show ratings gold

(CNN) - TLC appears to have found gold in Alaska – or, at least in Sarah Palin's Alaska.

The premiere of the eight-episode reality television series on the Discovery Channel spinoff Sunday drew nearly 5 million viewers, according to just-released Nielsen numbers. Or, put in presidential primary terms, more people watched the former Alaska governor's show than live in Iowa and New Hampshire combined.

According to TLC, the program was the No. 1 show the network has ever launched, edging out the 2003 premiere of "What Not to Wear."

I would rather have a root canal without pain medication than watch.

You're talking about a viewing public that shot Jersey Shore to the top of the ratings.

The question is will the 5 million show up next weekend too?!?! A true hit is the same number and more watching each week. I hope they enjoy it because we were watching football!

Idesign. First of all I think Palin is not worth my time of day . I want watch the show. I am an Independent who has voted Republican at times and am sick of hearing from ignorant little people like you that I am a Leftie because I had zero admiration for this sham of a poltician. Of course people watched the show. She has her following of celebrity worshippers the very thing she allegedley disdains. That is why her very untalented dancing daughter is sitll on DWTS. I know people who watched the show out of curiosity but detest Palin. Thank Goodness if she ever becomes president I have plan B

Who are there are naive enough to believe this woman has any time at all to enjoy her family? One positive for her children about this reality show is that she actually had to spend time with them or record it!

Will never watch this show. This dumb, stupid moron, is not worth watching, your just padding her pockets, she is a quitter and a loser. She is a bigot, a racist and the only thing that comes out her mouth is hate. She is a female version of Hitler

Palin is nothing more than greedy and vain. She has told the most outrageous lies and quite her job so she could make money shouting her ignorance at Tea Party rallies. Just from clips I've seen her family seems crude and mean. Why anyone would play to this woman's nonsense is beyond me.

It's the train wreck effect. People wanted to see if she would butcher the English language some more.

Bet those ratings drop like a stone in weeks 3, 4 & 5.

Don't get too excited. Americans will watch a pile of dung rotting if it's hyped enough, but then they realize how much it stinks. This is show is pretty much the same thing.

TLC was once the learning channel. Programs were so interesting and informative. The reality tv shows are less informative or educational. TLC is looking for high ratings and I guess this program will give it to them.

Alaska is a beautiful state. Is it the right thing to do to have a program with Sarah Palin who is a politician and is very clearly a political star. If you answered yes, then you need to offer the same idea to politicians from every state..

Sarah Palin says she is protective of her children but she does not hesitate to put them front and center.

Like What Not to Wear is indicative of main stream American life. Let's see 5 million viewers out of a possible two or three hundred million. It's not such a big number in that light.

Palin is what is referred to as a "MILF". Men watch her show because she is a MILF. Those men's spouses should know that's why their men are watching. It's Sunday night,,,other than football,,,not much competition.

Wow – Iowa and New Hampshire, eh?

The Westside of Los Angeles has more people than that....

Im supposed to be impressed that Bill Oreilly's viewers know how to change the channel to TLC? Or did they have to get written instructions mailed to them on how to do that?
