Illinois victory hands GOP net gain of 61 House seats

(CNN) - Democratic Rep. Melissa Bean of Illinois has conceded her re-election bid to Republican Joe Walsh, giving Republicans a net gain of 61 House seats.

Bean called Walsh on Tuesday after final ballot counting in the three counties that comprise the state's 8th congressional district indicated the Republican edged out the three-term incumbent by a narrow margin.

"During the call, Melissa Bean congratulated Joe Walsh on becoming the next Representative of Illinois' 8th Congressional District," her campaign said in a statement.

Bean has returned to the district to hold a news conference Wednesday morning on the election results.

"I am grateful to each and every individual who cast their ballot for me, and for all the thousands of volunteers, Tea Party members, regular Republicans, friend and staff people that have made this victory possible," Walsh said in a statement late Tuesday. "I congratulate Representative Bean on her vigorous campaign and thank her for her six years of public service."

Walsh, who will hold a news conference Wednesday at Republican National Committee headquarters in Washington, becomes the 95th House freshman elected on November 2 and the 86th GOP freshman. The upcoming 112th Congress will have the largest House freshman class in more than half a century.

A total of 13 House races did not produce a winner on Election Night. Since then, the Democratic incumbent has prevailed in seven of those contests; five races remain unresolved.

Bean becomes the 50th House Democratic incumbent to lose re-election this year.

This is becoming more impressive all the time.
Having a Democrat incumbent lose in Obama's backyard has got to add a little salt to his wounds.

Only 5 races not projected: 2 in CA, 2 in NY and 1 in TX. Democrats will win both seats in Caliifornia and at least one in NY.

This is what happens when you follow Pelosi, Reid and Obama off the cliff. Bean was a rubber-stamp for everything the Democrats wanted yet came from a republican district.

Sad how the party of no with their new 61 representatives is already back to their old ways and saying, "NO!." No, to the Russian-US limiting of nuclear weapons this year. We all have to remember that their goal is to get rid of Obama in 2012 and the heck with America and Americans!
