Don't the democrats still have the majority in the house? Why didn't this pass? Do democrats not like the middle class?

Representative-elect Andy Harris, a Maryland Republican and anesthesiologist, beat his incumbent Democratic opponent by campaigning against the terror of universal socialized medicine. Despite the fact that his opponent voted against healthcare reform, Harris insisted that once elected he would vote to repeal healthcare reform. Now he is elected! And he was shocked to learn that his free, taxpayer-funded, government-run healthcare won't kick in until 28 days after he's sworn in. This made him upset!

I'm generally OK with the concept of longer term unemployment but there needs to be some better rules. I have two former employees that have file for extended benefits. Neither one worked for me for more than a year and neither had employment in the year before working for me. And now they get 2 years of unemployment benefits for less than a year of work? And both of them are unemployed by choice. Unemployment benefits should max at 6 months or 50% of your time employed over the last 4 years.

While that was expected......if Washington expects to prevent major problems with violence on the streets of America, they had better be finding some jobs for Americans, and they had better be doing it fast!

All Repubs are asking for is to find a way to pay for it without adding more debt.. I know this is tough for Liberals to understand but cut something somewhere to pay for this worthwhile expenditure!!

This is what the GOBP is going to negotiate with for the Bush tax cuts. They are going to hold the unemployed hostage so they can keep their useless tax cuts. I've said it before and I'll say it again. The next civil war is on the horizon and it won't be based on race. The civil war will be class warfare: The Rich vs. The Poor. The remainder of the middle class will eventually fall victim to the republican fascists that were just recently elected.

Oh, that is a shame........ Everyone MUST know that it can take two years or more to find a job....... Economics tells us that unemployment insurance incentivizes participants to NOT find a job and that is EXACTLY what is happening. You can't tell me that in almost two years you can't find SOMETHING!! Right now I am working 4 jobs (one full-time and 3 part-time) and tomorrow if I needed to I could find a fifth. Why? Because I was raised to believe a person must work hard and if you need another "dollar" you find some way to MAKE another "dollar". Time to get off your lazy butts and go find SOMETHING!! Rake your neighbors yard, mow someones grass, fix someones sprinkler system, paint someones house, etc. If you have a college degree and comfortable in some high level school material (algebra/statistics/economics/finance/etc.) start your own tutoring service (that is one of my "part-time" jobs). EVERYONE has SOME ability.

Don't sit on your butts for almost TWO YEARS telling the world "Oh whoa is me....". You are lazy and have no work ethic. Go out and find something to do. Have some pride in yourself. Don't sit around with the attitude "nobody will hire me". Do that and it shows in your body language and "nobody will hire you". Tell yourself you will find a way to make $200 next week doing SOMETHING!! Then the next week make it $300 a week and so on. With my PART-TIME jobs I made over $700 last week. IT CAN BE DONE IF YOU TELL YOURSELF YOU CAN DO IT!! THEN GO OUT AND DO IT!! This country CANNOT continue giving non-productive people money. Time to take care of yourself. Living of the government has got to end so go out and FIND SOMETHING TO DO!!

This just shameful that they did this not extending the benefits. Wonder how many of the people unemployed voted republican this last election. And they could not see what the reoublicans are doing to this country. Maybe they will learn their lesson.

We can approve unfunded tax breaks which every financial guru has stated will not help the economy one bit but we cannot help the unemployed because that is so called "unfunded". What a darn shame this country has become.

The tea party thinks they have a revolution. Tea partiers beware. There is a real revolution coming. It is the revolution of the unemployed, the poor, the neglected, the moderates and everyone else who is really, really tired of the people in Washington who are there for just their self interest and not for the country's good. The republicans need to do a head count; how many unemployed are there and how many tea partiers are there? Republicans, you have two years to make the country whole again. And the clock is ticking.

It fails as it should have. Unemployment past just a few months is not the answer. Putting people back to work is.

Hey people you put them in there and now this is just the beginning. Wait and see how many of these republicans who voted no to add 12 billion dollars to the debt to help people who can't find work will vote yes to give millionaires and billionaires a huge tax break that will add 1 trillion to the debt. I wonder how many of the unemployed fools voted for these people or didn't vote at all. This just the beginning of what they're going to do to you and the rest of us employed or unemployed.

  22. Nancy Pelosi, the wicked witch of the west, the DemocRAT gift that just keeps on giving

You mean two years isn't long enough??? I guess their cluelessness might require unemployment benefits for FIVE YEARS! After all, isn't that what Christine Romer said? High unemployment for the foreseeable future. Thanks to the Clueless Bunch of DemocRATS that think government spending into bankruptcy is the formula for a successful economy.

Or maybe the DemocRATS are trying to resurrect welfare but under the guise of unemployment? They do seem to have an uncontrollable apetite for large government entitlement programs that there is no money for.

And Republicans fight to give people who make more than $250,000 a tax cut, which will cost the Treasury 700 billion in the next ten years. It is nice to know Republicans have their priorities, and the people who are unemployed because of the recession aren't one of them.
