(CNN) – Joe Scarborough, the MSNBC host and former conservative congressman from Florida, says its time for members of his party to get off the sidelines and express their true feelings about Sarah Palin.
"Republicans have a problem. The most-talked-about figure in the GOP is a reality show star who cannot be elected," Scarborough writes in a column for Politico out Tuesday. "And yet the same leaders who fret that Sarah Palin could devastate their party in 2012 are too scared to say in public what they all complain about in private."
Scarborough, who recently returned to air after MSNBC suspended him for making a series of political contributions he did not disclose to the network, also took aim at the former Alaska governor for even considering a White House bid.
"What man or mouse with a fully functioning human brain and a résumé as thin as Palin's would flirt with a presidential run? It makes the political biography of Barack Obama look more like Winston Churchill's," writes Scarborough, later adding that Palin is pursuing a "dopey dream."
The comments come several days after Palin herself stoked speculation she is considering a run for president, with the 2008 GOP vice presidential nominee saying in several media interviews that she is conferring with friends and families about the prospect and thinks she could beat President Obama.
But Scarborough writes that prospect is completely unfounded and faults Palin for comparing her resume, which now includes starring in a TLC reality show, to that of Ronald Reagan, the onetime Hollywood actor. Scarborough also isn't pleased Palin painted President George H.W. Bush and wife Barbara in a recent interview as out-of-touch "blue bloods."
"Perhaps her anger was understandable," a sarcastic Scarborough says. "After all, these disconnected "blue bloods" had nothing in their backgrounds that could ever make them understand "real America" like a former governor from Alaska who quit in the middle of her first term and then got rich.
"I suppose Palin's harsh dismissal of this great man is more understandable after one reads her biography and realizes that, like Bush, she accomplished a great deal in her early 20s. Who wouldn't agree that finishing third in the Miss Alaska beauty contest is every bit as treacherous as risking your life in military combat?" continued Scarborough, in reference to the elder Bush's tenure as combat pilot in World War II.
Palin has yet to respond to the comments.
'Bout time! Barack Obama had more foreign experience by the age of ten due to his travels than Palin has in her whole life. The American people rejected her for the VP position. Why, on Earth, would she think we'd elect her for the acutal presidency?
Politically I am no fan of H.W. Bush. But, to call him anything less than a genuine war hero is dismissive. Like him or not he deserves respect as much as Sarah Palin does not.
As a supporter of Obama getting a second term I say, "run Sarah run"! The White House is calling you. Don't listen to all the people who doubt you. No one will vote against a real "mama grizzly". Just get past the primaries and don't worry what comes next.
Finally, a Republican with real testicular fortitude who isn't afraid to stand up to the right wing crazies. I can't wait to see what Silly Sarah has to say about this. It'll be a good one, you betcha.
LOL! You reap what you sow! She is all yours, Republicans! You can thank John McCain for foisting this embarrassment on the American people. Palin is a walking, talking disaster.
Joe Scarborough is just jealous!
He secretly wants to be President (like most of the rest of us) and sees that Palin is getting all of this undeserved attention.
He wants some of that spotlight, so he's banging the pots that he has, on the kitchen floor of his life, like a big BABY...
He's right, she is not fit to be President of ANYTHING
RUN Sarah RUN!!!
Sara Palin has to be one of the most entertaining public figures that has come along in quite some time. Zero substance for real leadership...she is the Democrats best chance in 2012! She is pretty clueless even though she can see Russia from her front porch and she can shoot a gun. However, as a cheerleader for the angry ones-she's the best.
Joe Scarborough says that Sarah Palin should be stopped. Well I don't see him doing anything but talking. He should throw his hat in the ring and run for President and be the spoiler for Sarah Palin. Sarah Palin quit her job as Governor this tells me that when the heat in the kitchen is getting to hot she will bail. Look at Obama there'a a lot of heat in his kitchen and nobody is seeing him bali, tha's his only good point. So Joe it you want to stop Sarah Palin stop talking about and do something about it. Tha't's the troublle with people like you Joe all you do is talk, talk, talk. You don't walk the walk but you talk the talk. Joe there's a saying "Put up or shut up" let's see what your made of.
Well finally the Republicans are seing what most if not all Democracts see in Mrs. Lipstick..Not Presidental Material...
Americans generally have a great sense of fairness. Speaking personally, although I generally vote for the person rather than party, having switched between Dems and Repubs many times - I FREQUENTLY FIND MYSELF ON THE SIDE OF SARAH PALIN - simply because the media and Liberal demagogues are so outrageously disgusting toward a woman who has actually achieved quite a lot without affirmative action opening every door on her journey so far.
So if you Liberal idiots want to continue your current attacks, watch the results - you won't like them!
I say Hillary Clinton for President and Sarah Palin for VP in 2012.. Unbeatable!!!
Does this woman ever have anything positive to say about America or our leaders? She must be very depressed. I hope her love of money and spotlight time brings her some happiness because she is certainly not a leader of sane people.
Sarah Palin is nothing more than a media creation, intent on keeping her front and center despite her rather obvious shortcomings. If it weren't for the media's flirtation with her, she would have quickly faded from public view after McCain's failed attempt at winning the presidency.
Joe is RIGHT....It's time to rid ourselves of this nasty LADY!!!! Posted from a Republican who is tied seeing her on teevee!
They really need to change the name of 'Political Ticker' to the 'Palin Ticker'. Every other story is about her...
Joe gutted her like a halibut!
Weak, at best. I'm not one that thinks she should run, but none of this reasoning has anything to do with it. And her resume IS fatter than OBs with things she's actually done in gov't. She actually has a backbone, too! But no – I wouldn't want her in the White House. She's more effective outside it!
NO NO Sarah Palin is the best thing for America. Run Sarah run.
Don't listen to the negative nabobs Sarah! Run baby run!
That way we Kenyan tribal law/Muslim White House supporters (IOW "Obama in 2012") are assured of reelection!
Amen! Thank you for your words of reason and wisdom. If you can't finish your term as governor what makes you think you are ready to be the next president of the United States of America. I am not a Republican, but I agree with you Joe. It is time to send her packing.
Good for Joe! Finally a big dose of reality and truth regarding this woman. Republicans should sit up and pay heed. In the words of the great one(Sarah), they need to "man up" and be true to some values and virtues one time.
Oh ... don't worry ... she will and I guarantee you ... she will have something nasty to say. Anybody who criticizes or does not agree with Sarah whether they're Tea Party, GOP or of course a Democrat always gets some nasty retort back from Mamma Grizzly.
Thanks Joe for taking a stand. Palin is clueless.
You hit the nail on the head, sir. Ms. Palin is underqualified, flighty, and ultimately ill-suited to be president. We can only hope the GOP powers-that-be come to their senses and publicly shun her – and soon.
I'm a Democrat, but I agree it would be horrible if she were to get the nomination of the Republican Party. Of course, I would like Obama to serve another four years, but for the good of the country, I don't want to risk our future on any possibility that she could win the White House. The woman is clueless! And for the record, I thought George HW Bush was a pretty good president. (For a Republican!) I suppose that's how W got elected. People thought his father was OK, so he must be OK too. How wrong they were!!!!
Run Sarah Run! It is my most fervent Dream that Sarah Palin be the republican nominee for president in 2012. The comedic value alone will make it worth while. And after all she does make W. look smart, which is no easy feat.
Amen. I am a republican and will vote for Obama in 2012 without batting an eye if Palin wins the GOP nomination.
@ least somebody has some backbone and making some sense finally, thank you! I completely baffled that this woman is being indulged particularly by the media and the other republicans that do not want to anger her base – what base? For once, people need to say the right thing not what people want to hear. Any American that will seriously consider Palin as a presidential candidate needs their head checked -seriously. It just makes no sense. This woman quit her job as a governor for crying out loud and now she wants to become president? God help us! To make matters worse, she is on a reality show for goodness sake and her mode of communication to her so called base is face book and twitter and she wants to be president. – Friegthening indeed!
