TRENDING: Palin must be stopped, says Scarborough

(CNN) – Joe Scarborough, the MSNBC host and former conservative congressman from Florida, says its time for members of his party to get off the sidelines and express their true feelings about Sarah Palin.

"Republicans have a problem. The most-talked-about figure in the GOP is a reality show star who cannot be elected," Scarborough writes in a column for Politico out Tuesday. "And yet the same leaders who fret that Sarah Palin could devastate their party in 2012 are too scared to say in public what they all complain about in private."

Scarborough, who recently returned to air after MSNBC suspended him for making a series of political contributions he did not disclose to the network, also took aim at the former Alaska governor for even considering a White House bid.

"What man or mouse with a fully functioning human brain and a résumé as thin as Palin's would flirt with a presidential run? It makes the political biography of Barack Obama look more like Winston Churchill's," writes Scarborough, later adding that Palin is pursuing a "dopey dream."

The comments come several days after Palin herself stoked speculation she is considering a run for president, with the 2008 GOP vice presidential nominee saying in several media interviews that she is conferring with friends and families about the prospect and thinks she could beat President Obama.

But Scarborough writes that prospect is completely unfounded and faults Palin for comparing her resume, which now includes starring in a TLC reality show, to that of Ronald Reagan, the onetime Hollywood actor. Scarborough also isn't pleased Palin painted President George H.W. Bush and wife Barbara in a recent interview as out-of-touch "blue bloods."

"Perhaps her anger was understandable," a sarcastic Scarborough says. "After all, these disconnected "blue bloods" had nothing in their backgrounds that could ever make them understand "real America" like a former governor from Alaska who quit in the middle of her first term and then got rich.

"I suppose Palin's harsh dismissal of this great man is more understandable after one reads her biography and realizes that, like Bush, she accomplished a great deal in her early 20s. Who wouldn't agree that finishing third in the Miss Alaska beauty contest is every bit as treacherous as risking your life in military combat?" continued Scarborough, in reference to the elder Bush's tenure as combat pilot in World War II.

Palin has yet to respond to the comments.

I'm pleased to read that someone in the Republican party is brave enough to admit that this woman is a delusional idiot!

Hooray for Joe Scarborough – a Republican who finally had the guts to call Palin the lightweight and the problem for the GOP that she is. Now it's time for McClain to apologize to all us for setting this nutcase loose on the country

I am so glad someone with influence has finally had the guts to say something! I for one think Palin is an idiot, and am appalled that so many are following her and encouraging her to run for president.

Wow this is real reality ! I am sure there is a huge percentage of Republicans that feel the same way as Scarbourough but do not have the cajones to man up and speak the truth. Anyone that looks for the truth knows that Palin is in no way, even close to being Presidential material. Someone has to stand up and take action for allowing her to speak about international matters such as Korea and the recent leaks. She is a bigger national security threat then her followers would ever realize and Glenn Beck should be fired immedialtly for allowing a simple citizen comment on highly sensitive issues that she has no idea what she is talking about. It is time for this Gong Show called Sarah Palin to be put to rest, and get on with extremely important issues facing the country today. Side Show Sarah has had her fifteen minutes and if she cares one little bit about her country she will step aside and let the extrodinary and exceptional people lead the country to recovery

Sarah comparing herself to Reagan reminds of how she tried to convince America that she had international experience by noting how close Russia was from Alaska. She makes the weirdest, and strangest stretches of imagination.

Scarborough's one of the good old guard of rational republicans. Unfortunately, Palin's "star power" will probably lead to a backlash against him. Which I'm fine with. I do think she has a very strong chance of winning the Republican nomination in 2012 - most primaries are closed so it's driven by loyalists, who adore Palin, and with Palin in the news every darn day, it creates a perception of familiarity and experience. And, if she wins the nomination, that should dramatically improve Obama's chances fo re-election. Don't get me wrong, she'll give him a fight and it would be closer than many think. But she's far too divisive and negative to win the Presidency. That doesn't work at the presidential level. Most past republican president's have been quite optimistic and stayed above blatant petty partisanship. Meanwhile, anytime Palin opens her mouth, it's usually a very negative attack on someone. Just look at her speech when she quit the governorship. Or her dimwitted "tweets"...

Who in the world would believe Scarborough is a conservative? You have to be kidding!! Chris Matthews is more of a conservative than Scarborough!! While on the topic of "Republicans" let me warn the Republican Party – You guys are on probation....... You lost your conservative backbone and 2010 will be the LAST time I vote for a Republican if you guys don't go back to the roots of the conservative belief of smaller government, less entitlements, less spending, less taxes, and a strong moral value in god, family, and country. It is these elements that USED TO MAKE THIS COUNTRY GREAT!! Now we are following in the footsteps of Greece and Ireland. In fact France is now MORE CONSERVATIVE than the U.S.!!

"Redistribution" has NEVER WORKED in regards to growing an economy. If you wan't a "free lunch" then move to Europe. If you are motivated by the fact that hard work builds success and the incentive to make more money through the sweat in your brow and applying yourself then you are welcome to stay. This country has "lost its way" and will become a 2nd or 3rd power in less than 20 years if we don't turn ourselves around and return to strong conservative values!!

I use to respect u Joe. But no more! U r nothing but a token, useful idiot for the liberal rag MSNBC trying to appear as objective. So much for freedom of expression.
How much did MSNBC pay Joe in bonuses to say that crap!? If u don't agree with someone, Palin or Obama then move on. This is a free country. Perhaps it is u that should go away Joe!

Scarborough is a conservative elitist picking a fight with Sarah Palin just to increase his poor ratings, nothing more. Won't help him.

Sarah Palin is the president America needs in 2013 to fix Obama's failures!

Sarah's (tea party) have yet to realize they are being used! Nobody has the balls to go after her and demand she start being vetted. She hides behind facebook and you want her to lead our country? Tell me one thing she would do as POTUS? She is in it for the money and you all are fools to believe anything different. The GOP deserves her..........she owns them now!

It's about time somebody with regular access to television spoke the truth about Palin. America would be the laughing stock of the world for the balance of time if Palin were nominated for any national office, much less elected to national public office. America should stop flirting with armegeddon which would surly result from a Palin run for any office. Palin is a cancer on our society; the poster child for the exploitation of ignorance.

They want her stopped because they know she will loose. But, Joe Starbucks had no problem lavishing praise on Palin if it meant kissing up to her tea party cult members. That's why they are scared to say anything bad about her. I really think her little cult members believe she's chose by God they way they worship the drivel that comes out of her mouth. Now we just get to witness what everyone else with a brain saw coming a mile away. And, we'll get to see CNN continue to publish stories about Palin fighting with the repubs via facebook and twitter. Palin was, has and always will be a vessel filled with nothing but hateful talking points that she fits on her hand. Palin is just a cheerleader for the extreme right wing. When it's time to pick a quarterback, the repubs are telling her to stay on the sidelines.

I hope she runs and wins the primary. As a Dem, I want nothing more than for Palin to run against Obama and I want Palin to continue to be the face of the repub party for many years to come.
