(CNN) – Joe Scarborough, the MSNBC host and former conservative congressman from Florida, says its time for members of his party to get off the sidelines and express their true feelings about Sarah Palin.
"Republicans have a problem. The most-talked-about figure in the GOP is a reality show star who cannot be elected," Scarborough writes in a column for Politico out Tuesday. "And yet the same leaders who fret that Sarah Palin could devastate their party in 2012 are too scared to say in public what they all complain about in private."
Scarborough, who recently returned to air after MSNBC suspended him for making a series of political contributions he did not disclose to the network, also took aim at the former Alaska governor for even considering a White House bid.
"What man or mouse with a fully functioning human brain and a résumé as thin as Palin's would flirt with a presidential run? It makes the political biography of Barack Obama look more like Winston Churchill's," writes Scarborough, later adding that Palin is pursuing a "dopey dream."
The comments come several days after Palin herself stoked speculation she is considering a run for president, with the 2008 GOP vice presidential nominee saying in several media interviews that she is conferring with friends and families about the prospect and thinks she could beat President Obama.
But Scarborough writes that prospect is completely unfounded and faults Palin for comparing her resume, which now includes starring in a TLC reality show, to that of Ronald Reagan, the onetime Hollywood actor. Scarborough also isn't pleased Palin painted President George H.W. Bush and wife Barbara in a recent interview as out-of-touch "blue bloods."
"Perhaps her anger was understandable," a sarcastic Scarborough says. "After all, these disconnected "blue bloods" had nothing in their backgrounds that could ever make them understand "real America" like a former governor from Alaska who quit in the middle of her first term and then got rich.
"I suppose Palin's harsh dismissal of this great man is more understandable after one reads her biography and realizes that, like Bush, she accomplished a great deal in her early 20s. Who wouldn't agree that finishing third in the Miss Alaska beauty contest is every bit as treacherous as risking your life in military combat?" continued Scarborough, in reference to the elder Bush's tenure as combat pilot in World War II.
Palin has yet to respond to the comments.
It's nice to hear that there is a Republican out there with a brain and some intestional fortitute. Maybe he should run for president, he would have a better chance than that trailer trash Palin does.
The truth is.......this guy lost to the Tea Party favorite, so now it really is just sour grapes.
being in the U.S. Air Force for 8 eight years and watching a good deal of reality T.V. (that's real american portrayal right?), I probably have as much, if not more, worldly experience than palin. I will wholeheartedly consider tossing my name in the hat for a presidential bid based on my resume.
Finally. I hope more people step out against Clueless Barbie. Then maybe she can just fade away like the majority of the American people wish.
Wow...a conservative telling it like it is about Palin~...she is a nutcase and the republications or the tea-baggers...who ever wants to claim responsibility for this idiot needs to get her off the air and out of the spotlight! She is nothing more than a fame seeker. The news media etc needs to quit reporting on her...if Glen Beck and Rush Limbaugh want to continue with making her famous, then let 'em...the rest of the "real" Americans are tired of her....and her family......enough already!
Shhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Don't tell her these things about herself. Let her run. Run, Sarah, run.
Finally someone with some sense....I would like to see a whole week go by without any mention of Sarah Payme...think that is possible??
I agree with you 100% here. Republicans need to step up and show the American people that there is an alternative to S.P. Someone who will run this country with authority and integrity. Will the real Republican candidate for president please stand up?!
Let me preface this by saying that I am right leaning.
Sarah Palin is far from qualified or intelligent.
Well, Joe my good friend. First Sarah has to run. Until that time relax. Do I read between the lines that you seceretly want her to run? Now, Joe, if she runs, be prepared for her to get elected! That's right, she may just be the next president! If that happens she may just call on you to be somewhere in her uh, Cabinent. Then you will really be in for it. Be careful what you wish for, you may just get it!
I sense a high degree of jealousy by Joe. Mr. Scarborough, a former conservative congressman from Florida, was a one-term loser. Then he went on to be an MSNBC host and become a millionaire. Like Mrs. Palin, Joe is not very intelligent based on his comments. The big differences between him and Palin? First, Joe is pandering to Democrats who hate Palin – anything to keep his show from being cancelled. Second, Palin is attractive and Joe has this huge bulbous nose that makes him really really ugly.
Sniff... sniff... what am I smelling?? Fresh air?? From a Republican? Naaaaa say it's not so.
Thanks . Finally someone had the guts to say the truth.
i am a republican and will voice my opinion of sarah palin...can you say MORON!! She is hurting our party and I would vote for a Democrat before I vote for someone who has self-ambitions. She's on an ego trip...money hungry...and self-importance...
Pretty sure it was Olberman not Scarborough who was suspended last month for political contributions...
I think the Repubs have a tiger by the tail. They drew it from it's lair and found that it likes the attention and the dollars. Now, desperate as they are, they can't let go because the other end has teeth and isn't afraid to use them. Palin will say or do anything to gain attention and the media sluts will follow because she raises hackles with every word. Hang on boys, it's gonna be a bumpy ride.
Pardonez moi, BUT, isn't this criticism coming from ANOTHER GOper?
What will the Half-Wit half-termer supporters say now about their 'misunderstood' idiot braintrust and her ability to lead them to the Promised Land (White House)?
Talk about nipping something in the bud. ROFLMAO!!!!
SHORTEST PRESIDENTIAL RUN ON RECORD!!!!!
Republicans really need to get back to reality. And I don't mean reality TV. Look beneath the covers of any republican/Tea party position and you will see some big corporate entity pulling the strings. As a former Republican and now devout non party citizen I am appalled at both main stream parties and the Tea Party is even worse. Yes, I realize that the Republican hate machine will flame me. So what. It is time for them to wake up and start being a responsible party looking out for the best interests of the public and not their corporate buddies. And please, kick Palin to the curb.
It's about time people in the Republican Party stood up called out Sarah Palin for what she is. She obviously can't take any heat, which was exemplified by her blast against the senior Bush family, as well as her response to any bit of criticism that has come her way.
Damn Joe. I love his show in the mornings. They are the most diverse morning show with Joe and Pat, conservative Republican's and Mika and Mike, probably leaning left. But they have BOTH Democrat AND Republicans come and face questions. They are just as hard on both with their questions, but they disagree in a respectful way and not try to demonize the other. Keep it up Joe. You'll get in trouble for what you are saying, but you know a lot of Republicans are thinking the same.
Who knew that Republicans could be weak-kneed little toadies? That was usually reserved for Democrats. Way to go, Joe, you may be my new hero! You are saying what I hope most Republicans are thinking, just AFRAID to say.
The GOP needs more voices like this. I am not a Republican supporter by any means, but the fact is if America is intent on voting Obama out in 2012, then at least let them choose a GOP candidate who won't turn the US into a joke within 5 minutes. I've never bought into the "So-and-so will destroy the world" mentality that is aimed at every presidential election victor, but Palin is the first potential candidate/victor who legitimately scares me. Only Beck or Limbaugh would be worse candidates.
You go, Joe! A sign of a breakthrough in our American ideological impasse? I disagree with a whole lot of what Mr. Scarborough typically says, but my faith in basic Americanness is healed a little bit here. So, it seems like not everyone on the right is automatically insane just for being on that side. This is the kind of thing that will make recently converted left-of-centrists like myself at least give credence to what the other side is saying even if I may not agree with all of it.
While I'm not a big fan of Mr. Scarborough, I do respect him and applaud him for saying what needs to be said about the 1/2 term governor. It's about time the republicans start exercising their brain muscles and thinking for themselves and stop running scared of the Witch from Wassilla.
Priceless! As the GOP is forced to cater to an ever-shrinking percentage of the electorate, it must slide more and more to the right. This process has been happenning since the Nixon era's "Southern Strategy", and this year's elections resembled the German's "Battle of the Bulge" last-ditch push at the end of World War 2.
The American electorate will never elect Sarah Palin, given her resume and her extreme far-right, millionare-friendly policy positions. Only a very small percentage- somewhere around 15% of the population- comprise the rural, Evangelical, socially conservative people who Palin appeals to. That's not enough to ever tip the scales.
