TRENDING: Palin must be stopped, says Scarborough

(CNN) – Joe Scarborough, the MSNBC host and former conservative congressman from Florida, says its time for members of his party to get off the sidelines and express their true feelings about Sarah Palin.

"Republicans have a problem. The most-talked-about figure in the GOP is a reality show star who cannot be elected," Scarborough writes in a column for Politico out Tuesday. "And yet the same leaders who fret that Sarah Palin could devastate their party in 2012 are too scared to say in public what they all complain about in private."

Scarborough, who recently returned to air after MSNBC suspended him for making a series of political contributions he did not disclose to the network, also took aim at the former Alaska governor for even considering a White House bid.

"What man or mouse with a fully functioning human brain and a résumé as thin as Palin's would flirt with a presidential run? It makes the political biography of Barack Obama look more like Winston Churchill's," writes Scarborough, later adding that Palin is pursuing a "dopey dream."

The comments come several days after Palin herself stoked speculation she is considering a run for president, with the 2008 GOP vice presidential nominee saying in several media interviews that she is conferring with friends and families about the prospect and thinks she could beat President Obama.

But Scarborough writes that prospect is completely unfounded and faults Palin for comparing her resume, which now includes starring in a TLC reality show, to that of Ronald Reagan, the onetime Hollywood actor. Scarborough also isn't pleased Palin painted President George H.W. Bush and wife Barbara in a recent interview as out-of-touch "blue bloods."

"Perhaps her anger was understandable," a sarcastic Scarborough says. "After all, these disconnected "blue bloods" had nothing in their backgrounds that could ever make them understand "real America" like a former governor from Alaska who quit in the middle of her first term and then got rich.

"I suppose Palin's harsh dismissal of this great man is more understandable after one reads her biography and realizes that, like Bush, she accomplished a great deal in her early 20s. Who wouldn't agree that finishing third in the Miss Alaska beauty contest is every bit as treacherous as risking your life in military combat?" continued Scarborough, in reference to the elder Bush's tenure as combat pilot in World War II.

Palin has yet to respond to the comments.

Finally!!! A republican with enought guts to say that Pailin should shut up and disapear. I agree with him whole heartedly. Who would ever elect a person to the presidency when she can't even complete a term as governor! The american public has more brains that Pailil thinks we do.

They Republicans have been pulling these half wits like Ms Palin out of the woods for years to help them win elections.
Now their attack dogs are taking over their party?

I love that even that so many members of the GOP establishment have been coming out lately and been saying what we all have been thinking.

That said, none of them thus far have been active polticians. Those in office are still afraid of the sway she yields with the far right portion of the base. Unfortunately for the GOP, she and the Tea Party have the power to split the party, which would essentially defeat both.

No Palin in 2012? That will be boring. Common Joe, do not take the comedy out of politics.

Palin is just a joke in all ramifications, a quitter, an opportunist and lastly a small I.Q person. It's such a pity the number of people she fools daily. what a shame she is to intelligent women.

Joe Scarborough, like his Leftie friends, fear Sarah Palin because she connects with the people better than they do and she embodies all the traits of a liberated woman – except she is CONSERVATIVE. She drives the Left nuts. They scurry around like cockroaches when you turn the lights on. Now its time for the Republicans to fear her. She will either force them or lead them back to their conservative values – which is what the country wants.

Republicans need to stand up and say "the Emperor has no clothes"... or, more accurately, "the candidate has no brains."

Scarborough quit his elected position and went on to make money from his notoriety just as Sarah did.
Too bad that wasn't noted in the article.

FINALLY someone with a microphone who has the guts to say what has needed to be said for a long time. The Republican Party leaders have been acting like cowards lately because of some myth that the majority of American people even care about this persons opinion. Most of us(Republicans), wish this idiot would just shut-up and go away!
By not condemning EVERY dumb thing she says, the current Republican Party Leaders are simply helping to ensure another 4 years for Obama.

Scarborough hits the "nail on the head"! Palin, although fun to watch, is not presidential material. She should not be "shunned", but her energy should be re-focused to help the Republican Party. Sarah Palin has the ability to attract young, activist, conservatives to the GOP. She should work within the party as Bill Clinton is within the Democratic Party. Let her articulate some of the GOP's policies and build activist coalitions. Use her positives for the good of the party and let her run interference for a truly "substantial" candidate.

If the GOP continues to support Palin's "dream" of running for president, it is at its own peril.

God bless you, Joe. It's high time someone with a brain called out the half-term governor who clearly has none. But brace yourself for a torrent of vomited cliches as Sarah takes to the social media and tells you to "man up."
