(CNN) – Joe Scarborough, the MSNBC host and former conservative congressman from Florida, says its time for members of his party to get off the sidelines and express their true feelings about Sarah Palin.
"Republicans have a problem. The most-talked-about figure in the GOP is a reality show star who cannot be elected," Scarborough writes in a column for Politico out Tuesday. "And yet the same leaders who fret that Sarah Palin could devastate their party in 2012 are too scared to say in public what they all complain about in private."
Scarborough, who recently returned to air after MSNBC suspended him for making a series of political contributions he did not disclose to the network, also took aim at the former Alaska governor for even considering a White House bid.
"What man or mouse with a fully functioning human brain and a résumé as thin as Palin's would flirt with a presidential run? It makes the political biography of Barack Obama look more like Winston Churchill's," writes Scarborough, later adding that Palin is pursuing a "dopey dream."
The comments come several days after Palin herself stoked speculation she is considering a run for president, with the 2008 GOP vice presidential nominee saying in several media interviews that she is conferring with friends and families about the prospect and thinks she could beat President Obama.
But Scarborough writes that prospect is completely unfounded and faults Palin for comparing her resume, which now includes starring in a TLC reality show, to that of Ronald Reagan, the onetime Hollywood actor. Scarborough also isn't pleased Palin painted President George H.W. Bush and wife Barbara in a recent interview as out-of-touch "blue bloods."
"Perhaps her anger was understandable," a sarcastic Scarborough says. "After all, these disconnected "blue bloods" had nothing in their backgrounds that could ever make them understand "real America" like a former governor from Alaska who quit in the middle of her first term and then got rich.
"I suppose Palin's harsh dismissal of this great man is more understandable after one reads her biography and realizes that, like Bush, she accomplished a great deal in her early 20s. Who wouldn't agree that finishing third in the Miss Alaska beauty contest is every bit as treacherous as risking your life in military combat?" continued Scarborough, in reference to the elder Bush's tenure as combat pilot in World War II.
Palin has yet to respond to the comments.
Good on Joe for his honest opinion of the half-termed Governor of Alaska. Goes to show that he is one of the few Republicans who realize that Sarah Palin is NOT qualified to be even elected Dog Catcher, let alone President of The United States.
In Sarah Palin's case, IGNORANCE is not Bliss. Nor is it refreshing!!
Joe talks good sense....Palin will not listen,,,,her supporters will be angry.
Democrats are smiling.
Oh he's in for it now! Twitter and Facebook attacks commencing! But he's right.
If one actually takes the time to read both of Barack Obama's excellent books (which he wrote without a ghost writer), one would realize that he is indeed much more like Winston Churchill than not. Sarah Palin is a featherweight and Scarborough at least has the guts to say so.
Joe may be the only truthful Republican on the planet.
Palin is a delusional idiot with a huge ego and a gigantic appetite for money.
Bravo Joe. From now on I am your fan and watch your show. You are the first one to come out and say the truth.
Keep it up, you have one good new fan
Please....Please...Scarborough needs to shut up and let the Mamma Grisley from Wasilla do her thing. Let her run for POTUS. Many of us on the left would genuinely welcome in the race. Indeed, it would be nice if she got the Republican nomination. Go Sarah...go ahead girl. Dont mind those elitiest blue eyed Repulicans tell you what you can or cannot do. Ya Betcha! Wink.
Americans vote for whatever is on their TVs, and this will keep Palin on for another week. What Scarborough ought to be afraid of is not a Palin loss, but a Palin win.
Who stepped on the butterfly?
Finally someone has had the guts to basically tell Sarah Palin to go back to moose hunting. Where we now live, we can look across Delaware Bay and see New Jersey, however that does not make me eligible or qualified to become the governor of
I don't usually agree with Scarborough, but he nailed it dead on with Palin. She doesn't know enough; hasn't done enough and doesn't care to do enough to be president. The fact that she compares herself with Reagan is laughable to put it nicely. To call George H. W. and Barbara Bush blue bloods and distain their service shows that she would like to rewrite history and put her and those that "think" like her as the heroes.
Yes! It is up to the Conservatives to relieve Americans of the ongoing nightmare of Palin's "dopey dream". More articles like this one, please.
Finally someone comes forward with a dose of reality. It was a long time in coming. But I suppose Palin's talk of running for president was the final straw. I fault old senile McCain for unleashing this ridiculous person into the public scene of right wing politics. Her background is sketchy, her husband was secessionist, her family is a mess and she's a quitter. It's about time. I see going forward a great divide in the Republican party, maybe even a split. Much the better for the real progressives who really care about the people and the country.
I think Scarborough's assessment of Palin and her qualifications is, at best, charitable. However, it is heartening to hear his call to Republicans to speak their minds openly about this ridiculous woman. As my father used to say, "If brains were dynamite, she couldn't blow her own nose."
Anal much? Personally I like Palin. Do I want her as president? Not really. But she isn't this huge monster people paint her out to be. She is more in touch with the regular Americans, she knows how to work for a living.
I don't agree with Joe on many issues, but I couldn't agree more with him om this one. Sarah Palin will undoubtedly lash back at him. All Sarah Palin seems to be good for is mocking and criticizing those that disagree with her. Not only does she lack the intellectual curiosity needed to be president (or any other elected official) but she lacks the thick skin needed to take criticisms.
Totally agree with Joe. She needs to put up or shut up. Her only responses are those on facebook or twitter and the time that FOX gives her. If she runs, she will have to answer questions from not only ALL media outlets, but other candidates as well. She will not be thrown FOX softballs in debates, and she will be expected to answer the questions fully, not just with sound bites.
It is about time someone began calling a "spade a spade."
Tell it like it is Joe! The way this woman is criss crossing the country with her ignorant talk and devisive ways and the republicans are sitting back as if nothing is happening is mind boggling! They rather continue to use her for fundraising purposes and boost from the tea party than to do what is best for the American people. If she miraculously win the parties nomination then it will be good enough for the republicans because they are such cowards!
For once I truly agree with Joe Scarborough. I watch his show daily and am pretty disgusted with most of his comments but today, I AGREE!! – U GO JOE
Part of me is tempted to support a presidency by her, so that people can finally realize that she is an example of someone who has consistently managed to fail upwards in defiance of rational logic.
Nit wit Palin will call Scarborough some vicious names and whine and not even blink. I don't think there is a brain in that head of hers at all. What a pompous hypocritical ass she is.
One Republican who has "cojones" to speak the truth about Palin. I guess Palin's recent so-called gaffes, not to mention all of them since 2008, are no longer seen as gaffes but as a mental disorder. In 2008 the Republicans sent Palin back to Alaska to govern and learn, she did neither but instead got a reality show to make money. Of course Palin can't win, that's why she's running and hiding from the media, you know people like Katie Couric who ask what magazine/newspaper you read.
I would like to see the Joe's, the Keith's, the Rachel's and the Chris' of the world run and get elected as a town mayor, get elcted and serve as a state governor, have as much practical knowledge of energy in this country and run for Vice President. I dare say that these qualifications are better suited for a future President than being a law professor and a community organizer. She has forgotten more about leadership and governing than BHO has ever learned.
At first I thought "Finally, a republican with some brains" .... then he had to go and ruin it by calling Bush Sr. a "great man".
