(CNN) – Joe Scarborough, the MSNBC host and former conservative congressman from Florida, says its time for members of his party to get off the sidelines and express their true feelings about Sarah Palin.
"Republicans have a problem. The most-talked-about figure in the GOP is a reality show star who cannot be elected," Scarborough writes in a column for Politico out Tuesday. "And yet the same leaders who fret that Sarah Palin could devastate their party in 2012 are too scared to say in public what they all complain about in private."
Scarborough, who recently returned to air after MSNBC suspended him for making a series of political contributions he did not disclose to the network, also took aim at the former Alaska governor for even considering a White House bid.
"What man or mouse with a fully functioning human brain and a résumé as thin as Palin's would flirt with a presidential run? It makes the political biography of Barack Obama look more like Winston Churchill's," writes Scarborough, later adding that Palin is pursuing a "dopey dream."
The comments come several days after Palin herself stoked speculation she is considering a run for president, with the 2008 GOP vice presidential nominee saying in several media interviews that she is conferring with friends and families about the prospect and thinks she could beat President Obama.
But Scarborough writes that prospect is completely unfounded and faults Palin for comparing her resume, which now includes starring in a TLC reality show, to that of Ronald Reagan, the onetime Hollywood actor. Scarborough also isn't pleased Palin painted President George H.W. Bush and wife Barbara in a recent interview as out-of-touch "blue bloods."
"Perhaps her anger was understandable," a sarcastic Scarborough says. "After all, these disconnected "blue bloods" had nothing in their backgrounds that could ever make them understand "real America" like a former governor from Alaska who quit in the middle of her first term and then got rich.
"I suppose Palin's harsh dismissal of this great man is more understandable after one reads her biography and realizes that, like Bush, she accomplished a great deal in her early 20s. Who wouldn't agree that finishing third in the Miss Alaska beauty contest is every bit as treacherous as risking your life in military combat?" continued Scarborough, in reference to the elder Bush's tenure as combat pilot in World War II.
Palin has yet to respond to the comments.
Is the GOP finally coming to their senses?
Well hooray, hooray. We need more people to speak out and not let Sarah Palin run her mouth constantly and comment on every event. She is unintelligent and very disrespectful of other people but if anyone says anything about her she is all up in arms and boo-hooing about being picked on. She is a category 5 moron. All her and McCain have done since they lost the election is criticize and complain – sore losers.
It would be a dream come true if all politicians would take off the gloves and call her out! Typically I say there is no sport in kicking the ignorant but given the damage she has done and effect that she has it is time to put her down. For all you supporters who blindly hang on her every word, don't worry you can always find her on reality TV.
She is not a fit for President but neither was Obama. Neither has or had the experience. I work for an executive search firm and it amazes we vote for people that are unqualifed for a position that is so important.
Finally someone in the GOP who can stand up and voice the depth of ignorance that runs so freely through their party. Good luck trying to change that.
Joe, why are you trying to take away the freedoms of Americans who want to follow a certain candidate? Isn't it enough that the GOP is the party of "job-killing", now you want to eliminate candidates that do not think like you? What would the Founding Fathers say? Say it ain't so, Joe.
Wow, that was very scathing.
An MSNBC "news reporter" is called a republican? No, CNN. Scarborough left his Republican credentials at the door when he joined MSNBC, which has a vested interest in seeing the Democrat party win. It's misleading headlines like these which are causing you to bleed viewers to actual news organizations like Fox News and Conservative talk radio.
Scarborough is snarky, ill-informed and often simply mean (much like the rest of MSNBC's "news reporters" (cough ... I can't even TYPE that with a straight face). If MSNBC wasn't being bankrolled by Microsoft as a media arm, it would have gone bankrupt for lack of viewership YEARS ago. Unfortunately Microsoft likes owning its own pet media company so they won't let it go under, but I hope that soon Microsoft puts its foot down and tells them to either become a commentator organization or a news organization, and not continually lie to the viewership that MSNBC is presenting the "news."
Stop someone he and his network help to create....Give me a break.
This man is correct about Palin, and the Republicans should step forward and say that she is damaging to their party. John McCain is out of his mind to say anything nice about her. Both of them are out of their minds!
Finally, someone on the right side of center says what we all think.
Why hasn't CNN just put a "Bash Palin" tab at the top of the screen rather than try to justify thin, meaningless stories by putting them in the Ticker or Opinions. Of course there are plenty of people who hate Sarah Palin. To a large part of this population she seems like a woman you would know down the street. She has ideals that she hasn't sold out. And to say her resume is thin, is simply gibrish. Sure, shes not a lawyer from an Ivy League school. Most Americans understand that elitist lawyers have ruined our country and continue to do so. They have crafted laws to benefit thier profession and it time to systematically take them down. The arrogance of these politicians to think they are the only ones with good ideas in a country of our size and talent is unbelievable and finally exposed. Sarah is an everyman. She speaks to the heart. Her resume makes obama look like an inexperienced opportunistic left wing cover girl. We need someone who can remind the world who the big dog is. And we need to return to God.
Say it IS so, Joe!!! I hope other Republicans emerge from the "Palin closet" to join you. I'm proud of you, kid!!!
Finally, someone with a brain is speaking out true feeling about Palin. I hope Palin has the ability to understand herself that she is like a clown in circus. People watch her just like to have fun in circus.
Scarborough is no conservative. He was re-elected for a third term in congress but quit after being reelected stating he wanted to spend more time at home with his boys. Then he took a "job" with an ambulance chaser's firm as a figure head, stayed there for a year or so then moved on to PMSNBC where he is really a RINO. He was initially elected because he was a conservative but could not get reelected in the same district now.
Hey. I know. Give all of those back room conversations about Sarah Palin to WikiLeaks, and the "Big Reveal" about how we all really feel about her is out there for everyone to see. Then we can all move on and think that woman's public "carrying on" was just a bad dream.
Palin is a walking talking disaster. She is the worst thing to happen to this country. She spews hate. Anyone who would support this moron, does not love their country. Come, Republicans get some balls and say what you really think of this idiot. She uses her children as props, she picks fights with anyone and everyone. She is a hateful person, who has her own interests in mind.
Love it!!!! it is scare me how are people out there see her fit! Stop Palin, maybe us the smart republicans should start this campgain before it is too late
Finally, a reasonable voice from a conservative. BRAVO!!! Why don't the rest of them get off the Sarah Palin bandwagon and have the Republicans come up with a viable candidate and get this woman off our backs. Let's really start thinking "Country First."
Bet this gets her dander up! It's hard to hear the truth.
If Palin is nominated, the Republican party can bend over backwards and kiss it hopes goodbye.
Well it is about time someone spoke up. What is wrong with this country when we can bash a sitting president and no one wants to hold this woman accountable for her mouth. I have never seen politics so disgusting as when she came on the scene. She is not AMERICAN nor is she for the people.
Watch out, Joe. You're gonna get the Momma Grizzly upset and her Facebook writers will not stand for such putdowns.
I completely agree with Joe and will do everything in my power to make sure if she runs for president she does not get the nomination. She is floating around in a pipedream
Thank you Mr. Scarborough. Although this can be seen as a good story, it's still about the moron from Alaska, and she has to be ignored by the media. Covering her makes you as "lame stream" as she calls you. There are other more important stories out there
